Won the T. & D. Golden Gloves amateur heavyweight boxing award on April 18, 1933, at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens -- without donning a glove. With only three heavyweights entered in his class, Cryderman drew a bye the first night. But his scheduled opponent for next day's final bout, Jimmy Winters, defaulted, as Winter's bout with Ernest Gable had taken too much out of him the night before.
