Michael Cera Is the Lone Holdout For Arrested Development Movie?

28 December 2008 7:33 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

A month ago, Jeffrey Tambor revealed that the Arrested Development film was a go. But despite Tambor’s positivity, many still had doubts about whether or not series creator could get the cast back together for one final cinematic hurrah.

It now appears that those doubts were somewhat unfounded: In a recent interview with Fancast (via Collider), Hurwitz was asked straight up about rumors that Will Arnett and Michael Cera were the only remaining two holdouts for the film. Hurwitz responded:

I don’t want to talk about who is holding out right now because we might still work that out and I don’t want to pressure anyone through the press. Although I will say that Will Arnett is gung-ho, so there’s a big clue!

Bateman and Tambor have already publicly expressed support for the film, and I can’t imagine that Arrested co-stars Alia Shawkat, Portia de Rossi, »

Arrested Development: Update on Movie Plans from Mitch Hurwitz

22 December 2008 2:56 PM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

After months and months of speculation about an Arrested Development movie, it was announced a few weeks ago that it will actually happen. Movies based on TV shows have become commonplace but it's extremely rare for a show's original cast to make the transition. With that in mind, is it realistic to expect that movie plans won't get derailed and that the Bluths will really return?

Arrested Development ran from November 2, 2003 to February 10, 2006 on the Fox network. The offbeat sitcom follows the dysfunctional Bluth family and features the talents of Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Ron Howard, Henry Winkler, John F. Beard, and Mae Whitman. Despite critical acclaim, the series never caught on with a big audience. Still, the show has been a big seller on DVD.

Now that the Arrested movie's been given a greenlight, »

DVD Review: Alvin and the Chipmunks (Se) (2007)

26 November 2008 2:49 PM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

If you look at the 10 highest grossing flicks of 2007, Alvin and the Chipmunks provides unquestionably the biggest surprise. An unassuming little animation/live-action hybrid update of the old David Seville characters came with little hype among many bigger hitters in the holiday season. Nonetheless, the flick surpassed virtually all expectations and made a stunning $215 million at the box office.

The vagaries of the .family film. market continue to confound me. Some believe audiences are so starved for relatively inoffensive material that almost anything in that category will score big bucks. However, this ignores the reams of quality .family friendly. efforts that tank. What made Alvin different? I have no idea, but something about it really appealed to mass audiences.

The flick introduces us to a trio of chipmunks: Alvin (voiced by Justin Long), Simon (voiced by Matthew Gray Gubler) and Theodore (voiced by Jesse McCartney). When their home gets cut »

Arrested Development: Movie Plans Official; New Hope for Other Cancelled TV Shows?

24 November 2008 12:22 PM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Though the Arrested Development TV show was cancelled after three seasons, the Bluths are going to the big screen. Is this good news for other cult-favorites like Pushing Daisies and Veronica Mars?

Arrested Development centers around the wealthy Bluth family. At the center is widower Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman), who becomes the family business' CEO when his father, George Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor), is jailed. Michael tries to raise his son, George Michael (Michael Cera), while dealing with his eccentric clan's antics. The family includes manipulative mother Lucille (Jessica Walter), socially inept Byron "Buster" (Tony Hale), delusional George Oscar "Gob" (Will Arnett), adopted sister Lindsay (Portia de Rossi), her husband Tobias (David Cross), and their attention-starved daughter, Mae "Maeby" (Alia Shawkat). The series' narrated by Ron Howard and also features actors like Henry Winkler, John F. Beard, Mae Whitman, B.W. Gonzalez, Justin Lee, Liza Minnelli, Judy Greer, and Justin Grant Wade. »

Why Do People Want an 'Arrested Development' Film?

21 November 2008 1:43 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Photo: Fox Television Talk of a feature film adaptation of the canceled Fox television series "Arrested Development" just will not go away, and each time it is the nugget of news offered up is so small it is hardly worthy of mention. However, I think enough has happened recently for me to at least ask why everyone is so interested. Sure, I liked the show, but it ran its course and I can't imagine a feature film adaptation actually being successful. "Arrested Development" was an acquired taste if there ever was one. It was a show that required the audience to be patient and allow the comedy to grow with each week. This is why the show was soon funny, the longer you stuck with it the more you got to know the characters, and the funnier their antics became. The show got to be so funny in fact they had to cancel it. »

Arrested Development Movie Gets Closer

21 November 2008 12:16 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

It’s been rumoured for so long that we had pretty much given up hope of ever seeing it, but today it looks like the movie version of Arrested Development – one of the finest and most original sitcoms of the last 20 years – will actually happen. The show’s creator, Mitch Hurwitz, has signed a deal with Fox Searchlight and Imagine that will see him write and direct the movie, which will continue the story of the Bluths, the most dysfunctional family you’re ever likely to see.Imagine big cheese, Ron Howard, who of course narrated the TV show, has also closed a deal that will see him assist Hurwitz in some way. We’re not sure yet what that means, but anything that gets Arrested Development up on the big screen is ok in our book. So, at long last, it seems that Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, »

Arrested Development Movie Update

14 November 2008 12:14 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Thank you, kind, shiny-headed Ron Howard, for giving us renewed hope for the return of the Bluth family. The producer and voice of the cruelly stunted Arrested Development, who's currently doing the rounds for Angels & Demons, took time out to dish the latest to ComingSoon.net on the big screen version of one the most side-splitting sitcoms ever. The stars of the show have registered varying levels of awareness of the film's existence, with Jason Bateman practically announcing its greenlit status back in February, a view which was then supported by Pop-Pop Bluth, Jeffrey Tambor, as well as by Will 'Gob' Arnett in an interview with Conan O'Brian. Then Michael Cera and David Cross went and spoiled it all by saying something stupid like, "is this true?"However, Howard - as producer - should be the man in the know, and his take is: "I really hope we do it. »

Follow the life of slothful panda bear Po (Jack Black), a son to a restaurant-owning Mr. Ping (James Hong) with dreams of becoming the ultimate Kung Fu master. Review: Futurama: Bender's Game

16 October 2008 3:57 PM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

On the heels of The Beast with a Billion Backs comes the third installment of the four Futurama direct-to-dvd films in Bender's Game. It's difficult to take these movies in as "movies" because they all feel like three or four episodes strung together (in fact, that is how they will be released on Comedy Central later this year) but they all seem to have a central storyline or element that runs through the entire feature and ties everything up in the end. For this film, that element is the Dungeons and Dragons.

The film starts off as the younger of the Planet Express staff (Cubert, Dwight and friends) are geeking out in a game of D&D and acknowledge that Bender was built without an imagination (really?). This comes back later on in the film for a bit of a Wizard of Oz-like twist in which the whole crew gets sucked into Bender's imagination. »

The DVD and Blu-ray packages will hit shelves on Sunday, November 9 as opposed to the traditional Tuesday DVD release. This is said to be the first time a studio has released a direct-to-video companion film in conjunction with the major theatrical release's home video debut. The new feature delves into the backstories of the Kung Fu Panda characters Tigress, Monkey, Mantis, Viper and Crane and will feature the voice talent of Jack Black as Po the Panda and Dustin Horrman as Master Shifu. "Houses Of The Holy," "Physical Graffiti," "Led Zeppelin"

26 August 2008 10:47 AM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

When a sitcom is clicking on all cylinders, it doesn't even need much of a concept to be funny, fresh, and inventive. A couple of timeless gag structures, a little commitment to timing and staging, and the energy of the participants is all it takes. This week's trifecta of album-titled episodes contains, arguably, only one truly memorable main plotline. But each one piles on the throwaway gags and makes perfect use of the office setting. Let's look at the delights that linger after each one in turn. "Houses Of The Holy" Okay, maybe David Cross's guest turn as Jimmy James' weird nephew Theo constitutes a second memorable main plotline. (The one I'm thinking about is below.) But really, it's not in how the situation is set up but in the skewed, resigned attitude that Cross takes to his only attractive »
