Boyishly handsome leading man of the early-to-mid 1930s, most notably
in Cecil B. DeMille's "This Day and Age", who'd moved on to second
leads by the end of the decade ("Jezebel", "Young Mr. Lincoln"), and
dropped out of films altogether by the late 1940s. The first husband of
Angela Lansbury, he died young, aged fifty, of cancer.
