Director: Kyle Patrick Alvarez.
Starring: Jonathan Groff, Denis O’Hare, Corey Stoll, Casey Wilson, Dean Stockwell, Troian Bellisario, Dale Dickey.
Running Time: 87 minutes.
Synopsis: Samuel (Jonathan Groff) is a self-assured twenty-something on the road to find himself. A metaphorical and physical journey, the Ivy League graduate finds himself challenged by all he meets.
Pretentious and socially awkward, Samuel buries his head in stories of the American Dream while trying to find his place after graduation and a succession of failed relationships. Parental issues may be hinted at, but Alvarez’s film focuses on the positives of self-discovery rather than the negatives of reminiscing.
The planting of Henry David Thoreau and Willa Cather may come across as obvious, but when Samuel emerges as a walking cliché of privileged youth, you expect nothing less. Bright-eyed but reserved in exuberance, Groff’s know-it-all wanderer is easy to dislike. Finding himself working in an »

Now that the much anticipated Arrested Development season 4 has been released and digested in varied paces by the viewing public, it’s time to look at the 15 episodes as a whole.
While Netflix doesn’t release numbers, one has to imagine quite a few people tuned into their computers and TVs, all waiting to see what the return of the Bluth family would bring. Were they happy? Or disappointed? Probably a little bit of both.
Let’s go ahead and look at what the high, and inevitable low, points of this fourth season were... Report Card style!
Best Episode: To pick one episode is difficult because of the way the season was engineered, but if I absolutely had to, I’d go with Buster’s episode, "Off The Hook." It was the perfect blend of old school Arrested Development ridiculousness and the new storytelling they had to go with to accommodate everyone’s schedules. »

Gem argues that in many ways, Arrested Development's fourth season is the show at its very best...
This article contains spoilers for the fourth season of Arrested Development.
It was always going to divide opinion. Let's face it, classic sitcoms aren't revived every day, and the build-up to Arrested Development's return from TV limbo fostered ridiculously high expectations. No showrunner could ever hope to please all of the fans, all of the time. Unsurprisingly, reviews have been mixed. Some praised the continuing audacity of Ad's plotting, the multi-layered references and the depth of the characterisation. Others criticised the immoderate length of some episodes, while lamenting the absence of several key cast members for long stretches.
Yet for all that, Arrested Development's fourth season was perhaps its most accomplished to date. Okay, some elements didn't quite work. Yes, the longer episode length proved to be problematic. »

There is probably no show that engendered as much hate-watching last year as Aaron Sorkin's "The Newsroom." The highly anticipated show had so much to like about it including a great lead turn from Jeff Daniels, and an all around excellent cast (Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, Dev Patel, John Gallagher Jr., Jane Fonda, Chris Messina, Terry Crews, Olivia Munn etc). But damn if Sorkin couldn't get out of his own way, with the show seemingly unable to go two minutes without speech-ifying, not to mention two separate and equally tedious romantic subplots that made adults act like junior high teenagers. Can Sorkin right the ship in season two? Um, maybe, but it looks like much more of the same. The Jim/Maggie/Don thing still seems cribbed from "The Office," with Jim even pulling a Halpert, and getting assigned to New Hampshire to get away from Maggie. As for Sorkin and his on-the-nose politics, »

Back in April, Sylvester Stallone himself entertained the idea of bringing Mel Gibson on to direct The Expendables 3. That never came to fruition since Red Hill director Patrick Hughes is behind the sequel now. However, it sounds like Stallone might have locked down Gibson for The Expendables 3 in a different role. Showbiz 411 is reporting that Gibson is being lined up to take the villain role in the action ensemble sequel which just recently confirmed Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage and Jackie Chan, not to mention adding Milla Jovovich into the mix as the new bad ass female. Could this be some kind of a comeback for Gibson? While the prospect of Gibson taking on the likes of Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews and the rest of the gang in the August 2014 release, it also seems too easy. After all, Gibson is already appearing as the villain »

Well, creator Sylvester Stallone attempted to nab Oscar-winning director Mel Gibson to helm the third action-packed outing for his Expendables crew, but after failing in that respect, Sly appears to have not left it there. Word coming out of Hollywood is that Gibson has signed for the other side of the camera as the protagonist role in the action sequel, which also recently confirmed would feature newcomers to the franchise, Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan and Milla Jovovich.
The controversial superstar, best know for roles in the Lethal Weapon and Mad Max series’, has had his problems of late but still attempting a resurgence following acclaimed roles in The Beaver and Edge Of Darkness. Coincidentally, he’ll next be seen on villain duties in Robert Rodriguez’ crazy action sequel, Machete Kills.
We await confirmation but would you like to see Gibson in The Expendables 3, which is being directed »

Now that America has had time to absorb the new season of Arrested Development (and catch up on some sleep), series creator/executive producer Mitchell Hurwitz (him?) spoke to reporters on a conference call today about the 15 episodes released on Netflix, the future of the franchise, and more. The highlights:
• Hurwitz said that a variety of mediums could have been — and can be used — for continuing the saga of the Bluths: “Give us the canvas and let’s see what we come up with. If it were a movie canvas, we would absolutely tailor to that, but the life of »

Stephen Glass reviews Season 4 of Arrested Development....
Seven years of wishing and hoping and begging and praying on the part of innumerable hardcore Arrested Development fans came to an end last Sunday with the simultaneous release of 15 new episodes on Netflix, and early reviews all seem to agree; it’s different, it’s difficult, it’s darker, and it’s just not as funny as the show we know.
Suffice it to say there are points I agree with in these reviews, but as with the show’s first three seasons, your mind isn’t really made up having only watched it for a week. This isn’t to say you wouldn’t love Arrested Development from the pilot onward, but if you do, in all likelihood you’ll love it and laugh with it more and more on repeat viewings. It’s home viewing and reviewing on DVD which »

With this new format Arrested Development was forced to take - and I'm not sure how else they would have pulled off a new season without doing it like this - there are bound to be some episodes that just don’t work as well as others.
"Double Crossers" was one of those.
Welcome to George Sr.’s second arrested development.
I am a big fan of Terry Crews, am looking forward to seeing him this fall on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and enjoyed his performance on Arrested Development, but I have to wonder: isn’t it a bit late to be doing a Herman Cain impression? I mean, I don’t think people are even commenting on his YouTube videos anymore and that’s a sure sign that your 15 minutes have passed.
I imagine when Hurwitz and company were writing this season of Ad, Cain was probably a bit more in »

Here's a new casting update for The Expendables 3: Resident Evil's Milla Jovovich is in negotiations to join the explosive sequel as one of the ultimate badasses. I guess if any woman were to join in on the action in this testosterone filled franchise, it would be Jovovich. She's earned it.
Deadline is also reporting that the studio is also in "advanced negotiations" with Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, and Nicolas Cage. There's are all names that have previously been mentioned, but it now looks like they will actually end up being in the movie.
The movie will be directed by Patrick Hughes (Red Hill), and it's scheduled to start production in August. The cast of the previous film also included Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Nan Yu, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. In the seven years since Fox cancelled Arrested Development, its influence has not necessarily been as widespread as one might expect, given its rapturous cult following. A few series have attempted to emulate its heavily serialized approach to building and contorting gags over episodes and even seasons – Archer, in particular, springs to mind, as well as Community and 30 Rock, for those inclined – but for the most part, televised comedy hasn’t made the sort of evolutionary strides that drama and genre TV have been making over the same period. That Arrested Development is now the recipient of perhaps the largest-scale resurrection in television history would seem to make sense, then: as it has no definitive heir, its re-emergence in the 2010s doesn’t feel redundant.
The odds of the show returning at full strength, however, were always minimal. Seven years is a long time to preserve any comedy’s character dynamics, »

Anghus Houvouras reviews the new season of Arrested Development...
The distribution model has changed so much in the last ten years, it's difficult to even figure out where everything went wrong. Or in this case, right. The Internet is strewn with posts from people begging to see their cancelled shows resuscitated on different networks or cable.
It all started to change around the turn of the century when shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer jumped from the WB to Upn. And Family Guy was cancelled, and then un-cancelled thanks to the strong ratings of reruns on basic cable. Then Futurama got a new lease on life thanks to Comedy Central. Now there's going to be a Veronica Mars movie.
Hooray?
It's difficult to celebrate the rebirth of mothballed TV series, because to me it's representative of a larger problem: the brutal, constant beating originality has taken in Hollywood. All these fans scream bloody murder. »

Anyone who has ever read a comic book has at one point or another visualized what they are reading in movie form. Comic books are being adapted into films and TV series’ at a steady pace these days, but is there one particulate comic, character or arc you’ve longed to see translated from page to screen that still hasn’t? We tasked the writers from the Sound On Sight Comics Section to answer that very question. Here’s what they came up with…
Aquaman
by Alex McKinnon
In the wide, wide world of superheroes, nobody’s been the butt of more jokes than Arthur Curry, better known as Aquaman. With his bright get-up and absurd powers, the folks over at DC comics have tried again and again to re-brand him as a first grade badass, but the uninitiated of the world would likely need a lot of convincing before »

Vulture is doing fifteen immediate recaps for hardcore Arrested Development fans. More in-depth analyses of the new episodes will appear in the coming weeks. This George Bluth Sr. installment of Arrested Development started out as a political satire of Herman Cain’s presidential campaign and ended as a comedy about a Bluth family cross-dresser who, for once, wasn’t Tobias Fünke. In between those two points we got a densely plotted episode that was occasionally challenging to process, and not just because Herbert Love’s low-high tax plan made such little sense. Here’s the basic gist: George Sr. bribed crackpot Republican candidate Herbert Love (Terry Crews) so he would support construction of a wall at the U.S.–Mexico border, where it would keep immigrants off American soil while standing on soil owned by the Bluths. Then George found out said property, home to the Father B. compound, is »
