Trainwreck Star Bill Hader Will Voice Alpha 5 In Lionsgate’s Power Rangers Reboot

22 September 2016 7:05 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

When the Power Rangers reboot was first announced, it was made clear that Lionsgate’s plan was to cast a group of newcomers as the lead heroes and some more familiar faces in key supporting roles. So far, that’s included choosing Elizabeth Banks as the villainous Rita Repulsa and Bryan Cranston as Zordon, and the latest addition is now Saturday Night Live alum Bill Hader.

The actor will lend his voice to fan-favourite character Alpha 5, the team’s technician who calls the Command Centre home alongside Zordon. As well as constructing weapons for them, the quirky hero is also a friend and mentor whose well-known catchphrase is, “Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi!” when he finds himself overwhelmed by what the Power Rangers are getting up to.

It may all sound a bit daft, but fans of the franchise love the character enough that Saban once released a surprisingly popular direct to video Christmas »

Power Rangers Movie Casts Alpha 5

22 September 2016 6:53 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

The Power Rangers movie has add to their ranks of big name actors, adding a former SNL alum and huge comedic actor to play Alpha 5, Zordon's right-hand man!  Come inside for more!

Aye-yi-yi! Welcome #BillHader as #Alpha5 to the #PowerRangersMovie - Coming in 2017! pic.twitter.com/tEeJqEPISE

Power Rangers (@ThePowerRangers) September 22, 2016

First, Elizabeth Banks was cast as the villain, Rita Repulsa.  Then, Bryan Cranston was picked to be the Power Rangers' mentor, Zordon.  Now, Bill Hader has been given the keys to the command center as he has been selected to play Alpha 5!

Hader is a wise choice as his extensive resume shows a career of creating unique voices and perfect delivery.  With limited time remaining, until its release, it's fair to assume that Hader's contributions will be solely through voice.  The question remains will it be a CGI'd Alpha or will there be someone in the suit, as was in the original series? »

Exactly two months after Power Rangers director Dean Israelite confirmed that the fan-favorite character Alpha 5 will return, Lionsgate has revealed who will voice this character. The studio announced on Twitter that Bill Hader has come aboard to provide the voice for the beloved robot. It's possible we may get our first look at Alpha 5 next month, when the first footage is unveiled.

Lionsgate announced earlier this week that Power Rangers cast and crew will descend upon New York Comic Con for a special Q&A and panel presentation Saturday, October 8 at 2 Pm Et at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. The studio hasn't confirmed which cast members will be present at the panel, but they also revealed new posters that feature each of the main characters' Dinozords, the massive robots each Power Ranger can pilot.

Newswire: Bill Hader is playing Alpha 5 in the Power Rangers movie

22 September 2016 6:01 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

The new Power Rangers movie continues to summon some big-name help for its supporting cast, with Entertainment Weekly reporting that Bill Hader will be playing aye-yi-yi-prone helper robot Alpha 5 in the upcoming film. Hader joins a cast that includes Bryan Cranston as giant floating head Zordon, Elizabeth Banks as the villainous Rita Repulsa, and a cast of relative newcomers as the Rangers themselves.

The high-pitched, often bumbling Alpha served as comic relief on the original series, where he was voiced by Invader Zim’s Richard Horvitz, and physically played by a number of actors, including Romy J. Sharf and Andy Sellner. Meanwhile, Hader—whose Documentary Now! is currently airing on IFC— is no stranger to giving voice to robotic individuals: along with Ben Schwartz, he provided the vocalizations for beloved ball-droid Bb-8 in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The Power Rangers movie continues to impress and they've just added another major piece in former Saturday Night Live funnyman Bill Hader, who will voice the Rangers' lovable sidekick Alpha 5.  He joins a cast led by five young up-and-comers Dacre Montgomery (Safe Neighborhood), Rj Cyler (Me And Earl and the Dying Girl), Naomi Scott (The Martian), Becky Gomez (Empire), and Ludi Lin (Marco Polo) with 3x Primetime Emmy nominee Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect 3) as the villainous Rita Repulsa and Golden Globe & Primetime Emmy-winner Bryan Cranston (Why Him?) as the Rangers' wise mentor Zordon. Hader is best known for his hysterical work on NBC's long-running sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live, but since departing in 2014, he's begun to venture into film where he's already managed to lend his voice to a number of highly successful projects, including, but not limited to, Sausage Party, The Bfg, The Angry Birds Movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, »

Margot Robbie, Norman Reedus, Ryan Gosling Read Mean Tweets on ‘Jimmy Kimmel’

22 September 2016 8:20 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The tenth iteration of “Mean Tweets” is here — this time with Margot Robbie, Norman Reedus, Ryan Gosling and more reading scathing and hilarious tweets on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Wednesday night.

Hugh Grant kicked things off: “Watching Hugh Grant and his stutteringly pathetic ‘charm’ is about as appealing to me as closing my scrotum in a DVD case,” he read.

“Do y— … Are these real, or do you make them up to be especially nasty?” Grant asked with stutteringly pathetic charm.

Melissa McCarthy got to read, “Melissa McCarthy is the Madea of white people.”

The Walking Dead” star Reedus took a bite out of an apple after reading an especially suggestive tweet.

Paul Rudd took some heat for being an everyman. His tweet read, “Paul Rudd is the most boring, vanilla dude. You know he just sits at home with his wife having a bland spaghetti dinner talking about his day.”
