Alan Cranston was born on June 19, 1914 in Palo Alto, California, USA as Alan MacGregor Cranston. He was an actor, known for The Candidate (1972), Samantha Smith Goes to Washington: Campaign '84 (1984) and The Dick Cavett Show (1989). He was married to Norma Weintraub and Geneva McMath. Successfully sued by Adolf Hitler for copyright infringement regarding his English translation of Mein Kampf published in the United States. For decades Mr. Cranston's resume proudly included the fact that he was sued by a German dictator.

Children: sons Robert and Kim Cranston. Robert, his eldest son, was killed in a traffic accident in Los Angeles in May 1980.
