Goa, Feb 20 (Ians) Mumbai City Fc's chances of finishing at the top of the Indian Super League received a huge blow as they suffered a 0-2 defeat against Jamshedpur Fc at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Saturday.
Goals from substitutes Boris Singh (72nd minute) and David Grande (90th) helped Jfc inflict a second straight defeat upon the Islanders, who are undergoing their worst phase in the league so far.
This result meant a win for Atk Mohun Bagan against Hyderabad Fc on Monday would ensure them of the League Winners Shield and a maiden AFC Champions League spot.
It was a rather ordinary first 45 minutes with very little action throughout. Jamshedpur were the dominant side nullifying Mumbai's usual free-flowing football. Owen Coyle's men played a high-pressing game thus disrupting Mumbai City's moves.
Jfc seemed to have done their homework right, as the Islanders found it difficult to play from the back as they usually do.

Margao (Goa), Feb 14 (Ians) Roy Krishna's 85th minute strike helped Atk Mohun Bagan beat Jamshedpur Fc 1-0 and displace Mumbai City from the top of the Indian Super League (Isl) table. Goa, Feb 13 (Ians) Atk Mohun Bagan have a chance at going top of the Indian Super League (Isl) table when they face Jamshedpur Fc on Sunday at the Fatorda Stadium. Bagan have already qualified for the playoffs, along with Mumbai, but a win on Sunday will give them a two-point lead over the latter, although Mumbai will still have a game in hand.
The odds are certainly in their favour -- while Bagan have been the best team defensively, Jamshedpur have struggled for goals all season, scoring just four in their last seven matches. And Habas struck a confident note ahead of the encounter.
Bagan coach Antonio Lopez Habas will once again be counting on the likes of Roy Krishna and Marcelinho to make the difference. The latter, in particular, has been in spectacular form since joining from Odisha in January.

Margao (Goa), Feb 6 (Ians) Jamshedpur Fc are four points away from getting into the top four and will be looking to get as many of the required points as possible when they face East Bengal in the Indian Super League (Isl) at the Fatorda Stadium on Saturday.
After a five-game winless streak threatened their chances of making the playoffs, Jamshedpur managed to get back on track with a win over Odisha Fc in their previous game. Jamshedpur have also kept three straight clean sheets, a remarkable turnaround considering they conceded eight goals in their previous three matches. Their attack, however, needs to find form -- the winner against Odisha was Jamshedpur's first goal from open play in four games.
The last time these two teams met, East Bengal frustrated Jamshedpur despite being a man down for most of the game. East Bengal, on the other hand, are in desperate need of wins.

"We had two clean sheets and the reason is, other teams also play football and they want to score," he said. "In the first half of the season, we know that we didn't have a great start. We missed some crucial players in many...

Goa, Jan 23 (Ians) As the business end of the Indian Super League (Isl) beckons, Jamshedpur find themselves in a precarious position after 12 games. Three defeats on the spin have seen them drop to eighth on the points table. And when they face Hyderabad Fc on Sunday, they will be desperately seeking a turnaround as they set their sights on qualifying for their first-ever playoffs.
In Owen Coyle, Jamshedpur have a coach who knows what it takes to get there. The Englishman masterminded Chennaiyin's fairytale run last season after taking charge midway, and guiding them from the bottom of the table to the final. And despite dropping points in recent games, Coyle believes Jamshedpur are in a better position this time to make the top four compared to the position he found himself with the two-time Isl winners last season.
"We have eight games to go to fight for those playoff spots.

Vasco (Goa), Jan 17 (Ians) NorthEast United got off to a good start under new head coach Khalid Jamil with a 2-1 win over Jamshedpur Fc at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Sunday.
This is NorthEast's first win seven games.
Ashutosh Mehta scored his first Isl goal in the 36th minute to put NorthEast ahead. This was also Mehta's first goal in any league match since he scored for Aizawl under Jamil against Mohun Bagan in the 2016/17 I-League season.
Substitute Deshorn Brown doubled the tally for NorthEast on his debut in the 61st minute. Jamshedpur skipper Stephen Hartley pulled one back in the 89th minute for his side but despite pressing the NorthEast defence hard in the second half, Owen Coyle's side slumped to a third straight defeat.
Neufc were the better side in the opening half, dominating possession and creating goal-scoring opportunities. They deservedly went into the break with...

Vasco (Goa), Jan 9 (Ians) Fifth-placed Jamshedpur Fc are looking to get back into the top four of the Indian Super League (Isl) with a win over Kerala Blasters at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Sunday.
Jamshedpur are on 13 points after nine games and a victory against Kerala could push them to third spot. They have lost just two matches -- the second-lowest tally in the league.
No doubt, the 1-0 victory over playoff contenders Bengaluru would have boosted their morale. But one thing that Coach Coyle wants is that his side doesn't get carried away at this stage of the season.
Kerala, on the other hand, have thus far been below par this season and come into the match after a 4-2 defeat to Odisha Fc. It was the first win that Odisha recorded this season and it left Kerala second last on the league table. Jamshedpur coach Owen Coyle,...

Bambolim (Goa), Dec 17 (Ians) After a terrific start to the season, NorthEast United will be keen to consolidate their place among the Indian Super League's (Isl) front-runners and extend their unbeaten streak when they lock horns with Jamshedpur Fc at the Tilak Maidan Stadium here on Friday.
NorthEast will be pleased with the start they've had this campaign after six games. A victory on Friday will put them level on points with table-toppers Fc Mumbai City and second-placed Atk Mohun Bagan.
Neufc found themselves in a similar position the previous season, remaining unbeaten after six games. But two back-to-back defeats saw their momentum slip and they eventually finished ninth.
However, if they manage to avoid a defeat against Jamshedpur, the Guwahati-based side would achieve their best-ever unbeaten run in the league.
"We are working hard to be sure we're not going to lose," Nus said. "We try to go for...

Goa, Dec 14 (Ians) A flurry of missed chances saw table-toppers Mumbai City Fc settle for a 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur Fc in the Indian Super League (Isl) at the Gmc Stadium here on Monday.
Owen Coyle's men took the lead through Nerijus Valskis (9th minute) before Mumbai hit back through Bartholomew Ogbeche (15th min). A red card for Aitor Monroy around the half-hour mark saw Jamshedpur reduced to 10-men, but some dogged defending and a number of missed chances for Mumbai, saw the former get away with a draw.
Mumbai dominated the early exchanges as Monroy had to dive to block Ogbeche's shot as early as the first minute. But it was Jamshedpur who drew first blood. Just nine minutes had passed when Jackichand Singh found Valskis in the penalty box. The Lithuanian's first-time shot was unerring. Barely three minutes later, Monroy could only find the side netting from a free-kick.

Bambolim (Goa), Dec 13 (Ians) Jamshedpur Fc have their task cut out as they face Mumbai City, who have won their last four matches, on Monday at the Gmc Stadium. The star-studded Mumbai started the season with a defeat but they seem to have got their act together since then to go top of the table.
Sergio Lobera's side will now be looking to keep the momentum going as they face a team that has conceded the joint second highest number of goals thus far this season.
It is not just that the results have gone Mumbai's way -- their performances have been consistently impressive as well, across all areas of the pitch. No team has scored more (8) or conceded less (2). Mumbai have also not had to depend on one player to get the goals with four different players finding the back of the net.
Mumbai have no injury concerns but...
