Paula Patton Makes Leap To Television For ABC’s Runner

Yet another Hollywood star has been seduced by the creative freedoms of the small screen. Precious actress Paula Patton, who broke big with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, just signed on to star in ABC’s drug cartel drama pilot Runner, multiple sources confirm.

Adapted from the Turkish TV series Son, Runner will center on Lauren Marks (Patton), a seemingly ordinary woman who, after having her happy family shattered, follows a trail of lies into the shadowy world of cartels and gun-running between the U.S. and Mexico.

Lauren is described as “an architect, a caring wife and mother living 
peacefully with her husband, Adam, and their son, Jackson.

Paula Patton Lands Lead Role In ABC Drama Pilot ‘Runner’

Paula Patton will star in ABC’s drama pilot “Runner,” Variety has learned.

Patton will play the lead Lauren Marks, a woman whose perfect life is torn apart by one twist of fate. To uncover the truth, Lauren must follow a trail of lies that take her into the world of cartels and illegal gun trade between the U.S. and Mexico.

Australian director Michael Offer (“How To Get Away With Murder,” “Longmire”) will direct the pilot from 20th Century Fox and ABC Studios. “Runner” was penned by Michael Cooney who will exec produce with Peter Horton, Ian Sander, Kim Moses and Jon Cowan, with Cowan as showrunner.

Network also orders family dramedy “Mix”

ABC has ordered five new drama pilots, including the Biblical saga “Of Kings and Prophets” and the FBI drama “Quantico,” from Josh Safran.

“Of Kings and Prophets,” written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (“Accepted”), is described as an epic Biblical saga of faith, ambition and betrayal as told through the eyes of a battle-weary king, a powerful and resentful prophet and a resourceful young shepherd on a collision course with destiny.

ABC Orders Five Drama Pilots for 2015-16 Season

ABC has picked up five drama pilots, kicking off its 2015-16 season: “Of Kings and Prophets,” “Quantico,” “L.A. Crime,” “Runner” and “Mix.”

“Of Kings and Prophets” hails from “Exodus: Gods and Kings” writers Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. Described as an “epic Biblical saga of faith, ambition and betrayal,” the series will be told from three perspectives — a battle-weary king, a powerful and resentful prophet and a resourceful young shepherd. The pilot from ABC Studios will be exec produced by Iranian-American author Reza Aslan, Jason Reed and Mahyad Tousi.

Also from ABC Studios is “Quantico,” which follows a young group of FBI recruits training at the Quantico base in Virginia. Pilot News: ABC Orders Biblical Saga, 1980s Crime Drama and 3 Others

ABC on Friday gave pilot orders to five drama projects, including a Biblical epic about kings and prophets, and a true-crime procedural set in 1980s Los Angeles.

First up, chronologically speaking, is Of Kings and Prophets, which spins a Biblical tale about a king, a prophet and a shepherd, all of whom are “on a collision course with destiny.”

Adam Cooper and Bill Collage will pen the script, with Jason Reed, Reza Aslan and Mahyad Tousi aboard as executive producers.
