Entertainment Weekly has out first (or last?) glimpse of the 12-minute Lost epilogue "The New Man in Charge" that will be included on the Series Finale DVD/Blu-ray set. Hoffman & Mann Unite For HBO

This is, admittedly, TV rather than film news, but the news that the generally dependable HBO has picked up a new series called Luck, from a pilot directed by the ever-dependable Michael Mann and starring the always dependable Dustin Hoffman, is just too good to pass up.Set in the world of horse racing and encompassing jockeys, owners, gamblers and gaming industry players, the series is based on a script by NYPD Blue and Deadwood writer David Milch, and also stars (at least in the pilot) Dennis Farina, John Ortiz, Kevin Dunn, Richard Kind, Jason Gedrick, Ritchie Coster, Ian Hart, Tom Payne, Kerry Condon, Gary Stevens and Nick Nolte.Shooting is due to start this autumn at Santa Anita Park in Southern California and around La. Betty White will guest star on the second season premiere of the NBC comedy says The Hollywood Reporter.

While will play June Bauer, an "esteemed, albeit slightly unhinged, anthropology professor".

Smallville

Laura Vandervoort is returning as Kara/Supergirl in an upcoming episode of the tenth and final season reports AskAusiello.

Vandervoort will only appear in one episode, which is tentatively scheduled to air sometime in October.

John Schneider is also tipped to be returning as Jonathan Kent in at least two episodes next season, including the season premiere.

Robot Chicken

Adult Swim's Robot Chicken is preparing a third "Star Wars" spoof with C3PO's voice actor Anthony Daniels and young hunk Zac Efron joining the action.

HBO Orders Luck to Series; Dustin Hoffman Stars

When you look at the caliber of talent behind the pilot for the horse racing drama Luck, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that HBO would order it to series.  Michael Mann directed the pilot from a script by Deadwood creator David Milch, with a cast toplined by Dustin Hoffman.  See what I mean?

According to The Live Feed, the cast is rounded out by Dennis Farina, John Ortiz, Kevin Dunn, Richard Kind, Jason Gedrick, Ritchie Coster, Ian Hart, Tom Payne, Kerry Condon, Gary Stevens, and Nick Nolte.  Production begins this fall, so Luck should debut on HBO sometime next year along with the fantasy series Game of Thrones.  Meanwhile, the Martin Scorsese-directed first episode of the Prohibition-era gangster series Boardwalk Empire premieres September 19th on the network. »

HBO has given a series order to "Luck," a new drama with an A-list pedigree.

The series has "Deadwood" scribe David Milch writing the script, Dustin Hoffman in the lead role and Michael Mann directing the pilot.

"Luck" is billed as provocative look at horse racing -- the owners, gamblers, jockeys and diverse gaming industry players.

Ryan Hansen gets 'Benefits,' Orlando Jones is a 'Tax Man'

"Party Down" star and "Veronica Mars" alum Ryan Hansen is headed to NBC in its comedy "Friends with Benefits."

Elsewhere on the casting front, Orlando Jones is joining Fox's comedy "Tax Man," Ritchie Coster has joined HBO's drama "Luck" and Mircea Monroe will be part of Showtime's Matt LeBlanc comedy "Episodes."

Hansen has snagged a lead role in "Friends with Benefits," which is about five friends who date within their circle while searching for their respective soulmates. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he'll play a regular guy who has a casual relationship with Danneel Harris' character. The cast also includes Jessica Lucas ("Melrose Place") and Fran Kranz ("Dollhouse").

The second season of "Party Down" premieres on Starz in April.

"Veronica Mars" alum Ryan Hansen has been tapped to lead the cast of NBC's comedy pilot "Friends With Benefits," and Orlando Jones is set as a lead in Fox's comedy pilot "Tax Man."

Additionally, Mircea Monroe is set as a regular on Showtime's new comedy series "Episodes," starring Matt LeBlanc, and Ritchie Coster has landed a lead role in HBO's drama pilot "Luck."

The IRS project is a workplace comedy set at an Internal Revenue Service district office and centers on a proud auditor (David Krumholtz) hounded constantly by his boss (Martin Short). Jones will play a co-worker.

"Benefits" revolves around five twentysomething friends who, until they find "the one," are content to have "friends with benefits."

It centers on Ben (Hansen), an Everyman who, while waiting for Ms. Perfect, enjoys a relationship with Sara (Danneel Harris), a doctor trying to find Mr. Right.

Hansen replaces Patrick J. Adams, originally cast in the role. »
