"My Perfect 3": Deane Ogden

28 December 2009 12:40 PM, PST | SCOREcastOnline.com | See recent SCOREcastOnline.com news »

Editor's Note: In the spirit of December's theme (Gear and Software), we asked our contributors to weigh in with their Top 3 gear finds and why they like them, and we are bringing them to you in a series that we are calling "My Perfect 3". Here are the three that Deane Ogden chose, and a short rundown on why he picked them.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's Top 3 gear picks so much that I almost forgot to submit my own! It's interesting to read what people like and what they do not like, and I have been pleasantly surprised to discover that, when you read between the challenge and response codes, people's software and hardware choices more or less line up with their specific musical focus.

My passions fall somewhere between rhythmic creation and audio manipulation. I love to bend audio to My own will, and particularly, rhythmic audio. Being a percussionist, »

Movie theme tunes: my heart will go on, even if my ears don't recover | Ben Child

25 November 2009 9:58 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Jennifer Hudson isn't just starring in a Winnie Mandela biopic, she's singing the title track too. Leona Lewis is doing warbling duties on James Cameron's Avatar. Make sure to leave before the credits roll ...

As the credits rolled on the first Spider-Man movie in an east London cinema sometime in May 2002, it would have taken a disaster of Green Goblinesque proportions to dampen my ebullient mood. As a childhood fan of the comic books and a lover of all things Sam Raimi, the superhero blockbuster was like manna from heaven to my geekboy soul.

And then, suddenly, as if I were being mocked from on high, Chad Kroeger started singing. Yes, the same Chad Kroeger who fronted abominable Nirvana-lite quintet Nickelback, he of the appalling rocker ringlets and grunge-ain't-dead facial hair. In earnest tones, Chad bawled out lyrics about heroes and eagles' wings, worlds full of killin' (and blood spillin' »

Long before Paula Abdul was a pop star or an "American Idol" judge, she worked with the Jacksons on their flashy dance moves. While she was still in her teens, she was called upon to choreograph the group's legendary 1984 Victory Tour. At the premiere of "Michael Jackson's This Is It" at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Abdul recalled how much she learned from Michael.

"There were so many memorable moments," she told MTV News. "I was still a [Los Angeles] Laker girl and I was summoned to work with the brothers. I was 18 years old and I got to see entertainment at its finest. [I learned that] you're only as good as the last thing you've done. He was just amazing."

Adam Lambert paid homage to Michael Jackson during his stint on "American Idol." The glam singer put his own stamp on Jackson's classic tune "Black or White" while competing on the show. And at the red-carpet premiere of "Michael Jackson's This Is It," Lambert shared with us just how the King of Pop inspired him.

"Michael wasn't afraid of just being himself," he said. "Michael didn't conform to one style of music. He did his own thing. That's the thing that makes me tick."

Another "Idol" alum, David Cook, also shared his experience with covering one of the King of Pop's tunes. "I actually borrowed it from Chris Cornell and, »

Christina Aguilera made it a family outing with son Max Liron Bratman, as did David Alan Grier, David Boreanaz, Chris Cornell and Fred Durst with their little ones. Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts let the child inside her shine as she did some heavy lifting to find a pumpkin of her own.  DannieLynn was ready a bit early for Halloween as Larry Birkhead helped his face painted toddler pick out the perfect pumpkin.

'Idiots' Have Driven Me Off Twitter: Reznor

11 June 2009 1:40 PM, PDT | newser.com | See recent newser news »

Twitter’s negative users appear to have scared away a celebrity tweeter, Rolling Stone reports. Nine Inch NailsTrent Reznor delighted some fans by using his 140 characters to announce collaborations, diss Chris Cornell, and raise money for charity. But the social network is “now doing more harm than good,” Reznor writes on the group’s site. “The experiment seems to have yielded a result. Idiots rule.” “I decided to lower the curtain a bit and let you see more of my personality,” says Reznor, who singled out the Metal Sludge community as particularly malicious. “I watched some of you get more »

Jennifer Aniston & Courteney Cox Are 'Friends' Again

29 May 2009 10:30 AM, PDT | x17online.com | See recent x17online news »

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - After a reported falling out, it looks like Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox have patched up their friendship. The split was reportedly sparked after Cox was seen at Chris Cornell concert with Aniston's ex-husband, Brad Pitt. The rift was furthered by Courteney spending more time with other Hollywood moms like Isla Fisher and Jennifer Meyer Maguire. The pair were also separated as Jennifer spent several months in New York filming "The Baster." But on Thursday night, the two former "Friends" stars seemed to have reconciled. The dined at the Water Grill in Downtown Los Angeles, before walking two block to Staples Center to attend the Fleetwood Mac concert. "They were laughing and enjoying the La nightlife," a witness tells X17online. "They totally looked like they did back on 'Friends' - two women having a girls night out, joking, having fun. They really were in a great mood. »

Tom Morello and Boots Riley Form Street Sweeper Social Club

23 April 2009 10:37 AM, PDT | Pastemagazine.com | See recent PasteMagazine news »

If you thought the pairing of Chris Cornell and Timbaland was a bad idea, well, go ahead and keep thinking that. Meanwhile, the new collaboration between Tom Morrello (the ex-Audioslave guitarist who once helped funkify the politically charged Rage Against the Machine) and hip-hop vanguard Boots Riley (of Oakland, Ca.'s The Coup) is a bit more respectable and infinitely cooler. »

Stevie Nicks wants to collaborate with Timbaland

6 April 2009 10:03 AM, PDT | Pastemagazine.com | See recent PasteMagazine news »

Chris Cornell was just a simple ex-grunge god. Sure, he was trying to recreate his reverb-drenched glory days with Tom Morello in the form of Audioslave, but we forgave him that. Then, out of the blue, he was straddling a chair in the back of some club, crooning, "No, that bitch ain't a part of me," with appropriate lounge-sleaze, as a host of blondies shimmied their child bearing hips behind him. This wasn't a Seattle purist's nightmare, it was a video called "Part of Me," which accompanies his new Timbaland-produced album, Scream. »

Music: Review: Chris Cornell

9 March 2009 10:00 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Scream is an album crying out to be made into a drinking game. The rules are simple: Take a long sip of beer every time Chris Cornell’s voice—one of the most instantly recognizable in rock, mostly from his days fronting Soundgarden—is sent through an effects box, and have a shot every time he screams through it. By the time it’s half over, anyone following those instructions will be so blotto that Cornell’s collaboration with Timbaland might actually start sounding decent. Everyone else will be stuck with this hourlong, glutinous lump of nothing. The problem with »

Tom Morello remains best known as gunslinger for Rage Against the Machine' and Audioslave, and as his acoustic alter ego, the Nightwatchman. Now, he's expanding further. He and Boots Riley, of hip-hop group The Coup, have formed a new duo, Street  Sweeper. The name sounds like a new crime fighter, doesn't it? The pair has recorded their debut album, but according to Morello's management company are still deciding which label to sign with.  "It's revolutionary party jams," said Morello of Street Sweeper. But as is Morello's wont- it's party with a purpose. He continues, "tt's got huge steamroller riffs combined with »

The night was a tribute to Neil Diamond, but it was Jennifer Hudson's moving take on his 1969 hit "Holly Holy" that brought down the house. Wearing a gold jacket and black satin pantsuit, Hudson – backed by three singers – was serious and soulful in her powerful performance, which drew cheers from the audience three times during the song, especially when she hit high notes with a lot of vibrato. The Los Angeles Convention Center audience of more than 1,500 immediately rose to its feet in a standing ovation as she mouthed the words "thank you" and took a small bow. As »
