The Mummy and Lifeforce: the strange parallels

Ryan Lambie Oct 17, 2017

This year's The Mummy reboot shares a surprising amount with the 1985 sci-fi horror classic, Lifeforce...

Nb: The following contains spoilers for 2017's The Mummy and 1985's Lifeforce.

When Universal Studios made The Mummy back in 1932, it was in the wake of Tut-mania: the fascination with Ancient Egypt following the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb a decade earlier. As Egyptian-inspired symbols and designs began to appear on everything from jewellery to cigarette ads, stories began to circulate that the pharoah's tomb was cursed - and thus The Mummy, about a group of archaeologists who provoke the wrath of a long-dead Imhotep (Boris Karloff, hypnotic as always) emerged.

The Mummy's success was such that it became a long-running franchise: Universal made four direct sequels between 1940 and 1944, with a comedy spin-off, Abbott And Costello Meet The Mummy, joining them in 1955. The UK's Hammer Film

The One Tree Hill Cast Gets Together for a (Partial!) Reunion

The One Tree Hill Cast Gets Together for a (Partial!) Reunion
Some of the One Tree Hill gang reunited for a group photo on Sunday, sending fans into a frenzy.

The gang included Shantel VanSanten, Stephen Colletti, Robert Buckley — who tweeted the photo — and Sophia Bush, who had been notably missing from an official Oth reunion back in July. And perhaps Chad Michael Murray missed this photo op due to daddy duty, as he welcomed a baby girl in March with wife Sarah Roemer.

VanSanten also shared her version on Instagram, captioning, “Fam Jam #Oth #reunion.”

In July, Murray, Hilarie Burton, Bethany Joy Lenz and more of the original stars of

‘Left To Die’ Review

Stars: Natalie Burn, Vinnie Jones, Daryl Hannah, Edward Furlong, Jason London, Robert Davi, Michael Paré, Christa Campbell, David Keith, Michael Copon, Daz Crawford, Augie Duke, Benny Urquidez | Written by Mark Atkins, Natalie Burn, Ryan Priest | Directed by Mark Atkins

What makes distributors think that joe public will grab any Vinnie Jones movie off the supermarket shelf sight unseen? The man isn’t exactly the bastion of quality direct to market movies these days (have you seen the godawful Kill Kane?) Thankfully I took a look at the rest of the credits for Left To Die and it was those that sold me on buying this gem of a film on iTunes, Not Mr. Jones… After all, just look at that cast: Daryl Hannah, Edward Furlong, Jason London, Robert Davi, Michael Paré, Christa Campbell, David Keith and there’s even a cameo by Benny “The Jet” Urquidez – a veritable who’s who of Dtv megastars!

Fertility Virus Leads to Apocalyptic Doom in New TV Series Dystopia

Imagine a dystopic world in which children haven't been born in 25 years. It's total chaos. With no one left to inherit the earth, the surviving humans have pretty much run the planet into the ground. It's in this world that the new 10 episode series "Dystopia" unfolds.

The series, with British director Paul Tanter behind the camera, stars Michael Copon and Sheena Colette as a pair of scientists who "stumble upon time travel and the opportunity to change their fate, but all is not certain as changes they make in the past have unforeseen life threatening consequences in their future." Basically, it's Children of Men with time travel.

Exclusive: Scorpion King 4 Cast Interviews: Don The Dragon Wilson

Cbm had a great opportunity to interview 6 stars cast in the 4th installment of the Scorpion King movie franchise, which is a direct to Blu-Ray movie releasing January 13th, 2015. A campy action comedy that departed from its darker third installment to become more of a family friendly movie. A decision that made the movie more interesting, funnier, and entertaining to watch. I spoke with stars Victor Webster (Continuum, Charmed, Surrogates) who plays the eponymous character of Mathuyus, The Scorpion King, who took on the mantle from The Rock in the third film after the first sequel explored the characters younger beginnings, with Michael Copon in the leading role. I had a wonderful time speaking to Will Kemp (Van Hellsing, Step Up 2: The Streets) the antagonist in the film, Drazen; the always amazingly beautiful Ellen Hollman (Spartacus: War of the Damned, Weeds) who Co-Starred alongside Webster as the would-be

DVD Review - 247°F (2011)

247°F, 2011.

Directed by Levan Bakhia and Beqa Jguburia.

Starring Scout Taylor-Compton, Christina Ulloa, Travis Van Winkle, Michael Copon and Tyler Mane.

Synopsis:

A bunch of vacationing twenty-something’s get locked in a sauna. Trapped, scared and facing soaring temperatures, will they survive?

I got a DVD through the post last week, alongside a press release I grew to love purely for its honesty. It promised the entertainment of breasts and pecs that would allow for unparalleled eye candy and a steamy location that would give the excuse for these breasts and pecs to appear. Survival horror fans, for example those who enjoyed Buried (my sister’s spoiler free synopsis? ‘It’s rubbish, he dies in the end’), would enjoy the struggle as these characters try to escape a locked sauna. So was it any good?

Well, for starters, the press release was right. There are breasts and pecs, in equal measure,

Ouch! Smith’s review of 247ºF!

Gimmick movies are definitely a hit or miss for me. When they’re done well, they succeed at keeping you entertained with whatever chosen surrounding the film’s writers have forced the unfortunate characters to be stuck in. Movies like 2002’s Phone Booth or 2010’s Frozen keep you on edge the whole time, caring about the characters involved and hoping for their survival. On the flipside to that, when a film relies too much on the gimmick and not enough on the development of the characters involved, you get…247ºF.

247ºF revolves around Jenna (Rob Zombie’s Halloween films’ Scout Taylor-Compton). During the opening credits, she experiences an accident which results in the death of her boyfriend. Fast forward three years later and Jenna, along with her friend Rene (Christina Ulloa), Rene’s boyfriend Michael (Michael Copon from Adam Gierash’s Night Of The Demons remake) and Michael’s friend
