7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 2002

21 January 2015 11:17 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The 2002 Royal Rumble took place at a time when WWE had a really big roster due to all of the talent they acquired when they bought WWE in 2001. While they didn’t choose to bring in all of their talent and a number of big names came in down the road, there were still several WCW stars that were playing major roles in WWE.

With the Invasion storyline finished after settling things at Survivor Series 2001, WWE had to move forward with a new direction. That led to the WWE return of Ric Flair, who left the company for WCW eight years old. He was put in the role of an owner that was battling with Vince McMahon. It got so heated that they ended up having a match at this show.

A few months after this show, the company changed their name from the World Wrestling Federation to »

10 Biggest Moments In WWE Smackdown History

19 January 2015 4:21 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Traditionally, WWE see Monday Night Raw as their ‘A’ telecast, something which has never changed since the show crash-landed on television in January, 1993. The ‘other’ main broadcast, Smackdown, has had moments where it’s threatened to supplant the Monday program – there was a time when the blue brand was vastly superior to the red, something Paul Heyman is credited for, due to him booking the vast majority of the show for a period, starting in 2002 with the ‘Smackdown Six’ period (Los Guerreros, Edge, Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit).

Recently, WWE made the decision to shift the show back to it’s original Thursday night slot. Running on Friday evenings for close to a full decade, the hope within the company is that the change will re-invigorate the flagging ratings. Truthfully, the promotion are the victims of their own creeping malaise towards Smackdown.

15 Longest Times Spent In A Royal Rumble Match

15 January 2015 2:32 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Careers can be made the Royal Rumble. Indeed, many WWE superstars have had career best performances at the January event.

John Cena had (at that point) possibly his best match ever against Umaga in a Last Man Standing match at the 2007 Rumble. Dolph Ziggler proved to everyone that he belonged in the main event during his matches with Edge and Cm Punk in 2011 and 2012. And has Mick Foley ever looked better than he did during his street fight with Triple H in 2000?

As one of the biggest shows of the year, the Rumble presents wrestlers with the opportunity (and boy do WWE love that word) to really make an impact. The Rumble match itself is one of the most anticipated of the year and many legendary WWE have taken place within its confines over the years.

One way that a wrestler can boost their stock is by lasting »

7 Things We Learned From Paul Heyman On The Lost Episode Of The Steve Austin Show

15 January 2015 5:10 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Over the course of the last year, Paul Heyman has proven himself to be one of the most captivating and informative guests to hit the wrestling podcast circuit. His talks with Steve Austin have been enjoyable as two friends and fans of the business sit around shooting the breeze, while his two-part appearance on Talk Is Jericho alongside Edge is regarded as one of the best podcast interviews yet.

Following SummerSlam 2014, Heyman recorded an episode of The Steve Austin Show that never aired due to Austin being disappointed with the result and requesting a do over where the two discussed everything from the art of the promo to Heyman’s personal and professional relationship with his client, Brock Lesnar, as well as the SummerSlam slaughterhouse of a match with John Cena.

This week Austin uploaded the Heyman lost episode for the family friendly version of his show and »

10 Hilariously Awful Career-Killing WWE Gimmicks From The 2000s

9 January 2015 3:25 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE could be a weird place at times during the 2000’s. Well, even weirder than usual, that is. After the successful and cutting-edge Attitude Era, WWE felt free to experiment with gimmicks and characters.

Some of them, like Edge’s Rated-r Superstar, were very well-received. That particular gimmick, stemming from Edge’s real-life affair with Matt Hardy’s girlfriend Lita, set him on the way to main event stardom. But not everyone was as lucky as Edge, and some gimmicks had the opposite effect, being so terrible that they effectively ended the wrestler’s career.

For the majority of people who make it to the main WWE roster, that’s all they’ve ever wanted to do with their lives. They’ve paid their dues and sacrificed a lot in order to make it there. Once they do make it, all the hard work seems worth it: they are finally WWE superstars. »

10 Opponents For Christian’s One More Match

8 January 2015 1:37 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

On the last Monday Night Raw of 2014, as guest hosts Edge and Christian came out for the show’s opening segment, ringside commentator Jerry “The King” Lawler announced that Christian, who hasn’t wrestled since March 24 due to concussion problems, had retired from in-ring competition.

Later in the segment, Paul Heyman said Christian had suffered “far too many concussions to ever wrestle again.” It was something of a surprise to wrestling fans, who hadn’t been updated on Christian’s condition in nearly a year, and there was considerable consternation over the fact that the former two-time World Heavyweight Champion, four-time Intercontinental Champion and nine-time tag team champion hadn’t been given a retirement speech, a final farewell, or a last match.

The story of Christian’s sudden retirement was recently called into question by a fan report claiming that Christian flatly denied any such thing during an »
