The drama Out of the Furnace seems like a hot commodity right now. It sports a stellar cast that includes Christian Bale and Casey Affleck in the lead roles, and Zoe Saldana, Willem Dafoe and Woody Harrelson in the supporting cast, as well as backing from celebrity production companies like Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Ridely Scott’s Scott Free. The film is currently being shot in western Pa, and on Sunday, executive producer Jeff Waxman, producer/production coordinator Julie Hartley, and various crew members spoke at a Pa Film Industry Association meeting in Pittsburgh, giving some insight to the project. We were there and one can see details below.
During the talk, Waxman repeatedly compared the film to The Fighter, which also featured Bale in an Oscar-winning performance. In past reports, Furnace was said to have a “No Country For Old Men vibe,” so this new development changes some expectations. »

The Oscar-nominated Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), who’s recently returned to her recognisable self during the filming of Soderbergh’s The Bitter Pill, has a slew of upcoming films on her schedule, and word of a new project has surfaced that really has me interested.
Deadline report that Mara, Casey Affleck (Gone Baby Gone), and Ben Foster (The Messenger) are all attached to star in David Lowery’s Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, which has been written and will be directed by Lowery, and is described as a modern-day story in the vein of Bonnie and Clyde.
Lowery took the Grand Jury Award for his short film, Pioneers, at SXSW last year, and developed the script for Ain’t Them Bodies Saints last January at the Sundance Writers Lab, and with such a strong cast attached to star, this is definitely something to keep an eye on. »

Here's a small casting update on Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper's follow-up film, Out of the Furnace. According to Deadline, Willem Dafoe has joined the stellar A-list cast in an unspecified role. The revenge thriller stars Christian Bale as a former criminal who, upon his release from prison, must decide whether to get revenge for his brother's (Casey Affleck) murder or to marry his girl (Zoe Saldana). Guess which one he chooses? Woody Harrelson has already locked down the role of the villainous Mr. DeGroat, the man responsible for the gambling racket that Affleck gets caught up in. Sounds awesome to me. More below! Dafoe is just the latest in a long line of great actors to join this project, including Sam Shepard as the brothers' uncle and Forest Whitaker as the town sheriff. But since Harrelson is already playing the villain, who will Dafoe be portraying? Dafoe has »

Scott Cooper’s crime thriller Out Of The Furnace is letting no opportunity go to waste in the battle to land the best cast out there. With the movie now shooting, the latest name added to the sprawling line-up is Willem Dafoe. Furnace, which began life as Brad Ingelsby’s script The Low Dweller, has since morphed into a project attracting nothing but the best talent. Christian Bale is starring as a man stuck in prison when his brother (Casey Affleck) dies at the hands of a violent crime ring.Swearing revenge, Bale goes after those he holds responsible, including Woody Harrelson’s gangster boss. Forest Whitaker, Sam Shepard and Zoe Saldana are also among the cast as, respectively, a sheriff, the brothers' uncle and Bale's love interest. Dafoe will reportedly be playing a sleazy bookie in the film. It’s perhaps not all that surprising that Furnace should be drawing in the accomplished names. »

Casting for Scott Cooper's Crazy Heart follow-up, the revenge tale Out of the Furnace, is just getting silly. Now Willem Dafoe is in the mix, alongside star Christian Bale and supporting actors Casey Affleck, Forest Whitaker, Woody Harrelson, Zoe Saldana, and Sam Shepard. Annnd we're maxed out on actor-liness. That's it. If Daniel Day-Lewis comes knocking, tell him we had to lock it down. »

Can a movie’s cast be a little too good? That’s the question I’m forced to ponder when discussing Out of the Furnace, which has already been able to lock an incredible assembly, consisting of Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson, Zoe Saldana, Forest Whitaker, Casey Affleck, and Sam Shepard. A great lineup, but, with just one actor, the proceedings got a whole deal better.
According to Variety, Willem Dafoe has been has been added to the cast of Scott Cooper‘s film, having just signed for the role of “a bookie who Affleck‘s character owes a debt” — not entirely dissimilar to a part Whitaker was initially rumored for. The actual story, meanwhile, can be read below:
“The currently-titled Out of the Furnace tells the story about fate, circumstance and justice. Russell (Bale) and his younger brother Rodney (Affleck) live in the economically depressed Rust Belt, and have always »

Shooting on the project began last week, and to announce the project Relativity Media also added two more big names to the cast list: Woody Harrelson and Forest Whitaker. Harrelson had been rumored for a role a while back, to play the head of the gang that Affleck's younger brother character winds up running around with while his old brother (Bale) is in prison. The release confirms Harrelson is indeed playing the role, as a character deliciously named Harlan DeGroat. Whitaker will be stepping in on »
