Today, the zombies from George A. Romero's classic 1960s horror film rise once again in ten separate first issues of Double Take's Ultimate Night of the Living Dead comic book series. Daily Dead recently chatted with Jeff McComsey, writer of Z-Men and Rise, who discussed expanding on Romero's living dead world, further exploring the characters of Johnny and Barbara, and much more.

Do you have fond memories of watching Romero's Night of the Living Dead in your formative years?

Jeff McComsey: I saw it at a pretty young age, probably in the mid-’90s. I remember we rented it on VHS and watched it a couple of times. It wasn’t until I was in college and we watched a bunch of old movies when we really got into it. And now since I’ve watched it professionally, I’m still impressed with what Romero did. »

Release details for Double Take's Ultimate Night of the Living Dead comic book series, an update on Alex Garland's Annihilation adaptation, and information on The Night Gardener film are included in our latest round-up.

Press Release -- "On September 16, 2015, Double Take (2T) will release all 10 1st issues of its 1st 10 series of Ultimate Night of the Living Dead. 2T has assembled 10 teams of talented storytellers; each is creating an original series of stories. Each series is interesting, informative and funny in its own way. Together they weave into a common universe. “Originally, we were thinking of trickling out a couple series of every month or so, building up our roster over time,” said 2T Gm Bill Jemas. “Now we’re planning to launch our new universe in one big bang.”

In late March 2015, 2T announced the first three books of the series (Rise, Home and Z-Men) for their September launch. »

Review: Interstellar

27 March 2015 10:33 AM, PDT | | See recent Comicmix news »

Christopher Nolan thinks big. There’s little question he has an impressive imagination and his body of work speaks to those larger issues. Often writing with his brother Jonathan, they have produced a series of films with a polish and gravitas that few other big budget spectacles can match.

And yet…

And yet, in almost every case, the lapses in story logic rob the movie of its power so you always walk out of the theater shaking your head in bewilderment. The great ideas and execution found in Memento and again in Inception are spoiled in his other films, notably The Dark Knight Rises. Such was the case with Interstellar, coming to home video via Paramount Home Entertainment this Tuesday. The larger theme of where we do go when we ruin the Earth beyond repair is a timely one as more and more reports indicate this is the century we hit the ecological tipping point. »
