Ventana Sur: Meikincine Nabs Disney-backed ‘Una Noche de Amor’ (Exclusive)

Buenos Aires-based sales house Meikincine Entertainment has taken international sales rights to Patagonik-produced Argentine romcom “Una noche de amor,” the sophomore film by director Hernan Guerschuny (“The Film Critic”).

Also produced by Hc Films, the production arm of Guerschuny’s publishing company Haciendo Cine, and MyS Producciones, the film has been acquired by Buena Vista International for Latin America.

“Una noche de amor” toplines Argentine TV stars Sebastian Wainraich and Carla Peterson as Leonel and Paola, a couple married 12 years ago that decides to go out one night for a dinner, leaving their two children with their parents. They will suffer a series of mishaps and misunderstandings which lead them to question their marriage.

A Woody Allen-esque comedy, penned by Sebastian Wainraich in partnership with Hernan Guerschuny, the film “talks about the smalls thrills of everyday life,” in Guerschuny’s words.

Ventana Sur: HBO Takes U.S. Rights to ‘Behind the Truth’ (Exclusive)

In an early U.S. deal unveiled at Ventana Sur, HBO has taken stateside pay TV and VOD rights to Enrique Buchichio’s thriller “Behind the Truth,” sold by Pascual Condito’s Buenos Aires-based sales-distrib house, Primer Plano Film Group.

Winner of the Huelva Festival’s 2014 Golden Colon Award, its tyop plaudit, among other prizes, the real-facts-inspired pic turns on two Uruguayan journalists contacted by a former army officer to disclose uninvestigated human rights abuses committed by Uruguay’s military dictatorship of 1973-1985.

A Uruguay-Argentina co-production, “Behind the Truth” teams Natacha Lopez’s Montevideo-based outfit Lavoragine Films with Buenos Aires’ Lagarto Cine, run by producer Hugo Castro Fau.

Primer Plano also announced at Ventana Sur the sale to Adolfo Blanco’s A Contracorriente Films in Spainof “The Others Mirrow,” an Argentine comedy-drama by Marcos Carnevale (“Elsa & Fred,” “Heart of a Lion”), produced by former Bd Cine partner Diego Dubcovsky at his new company Varsovia Films, »
