ABC Orders Comedies ‘Downward Dog,’ ‘Imaginary Mary’ and ‘Second Fattest Housewife’

12 May 2016 4:00 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

ABC has ordered three new comedies to series, “Imaginary Mary,” “Downward Dog,” and the project formerly known as “The Second Fattest Housewife in Westport,” now known as Untitled Sarah Dunn.

The live action/CGI hybrid “Imaginary Mary” centers around Alice (Jenna Elfman, “Dharma & Greg”) a fiercely independent career woman whose life is turned upside-down when she meets the love of her life — a divorced father with three kids. This triggers even more upheaval when the slightly unhinged imaginary friend she created as a child suddenly reappears to help her navigate the transition from single girl to a woman ready for a family.

The series also stars Stephen Schneider as Ben, Rachel Dratch as the titular imaginary friend Mary, Nicholas Coombe as Andy, Matreya Scarrwener as Dora and Erica Trembay as Bunny.

The series hails from “The Goldbergs” writers and exec producers Adam F. Goldberg and David Guarascio, and exec producer Doug Robinson. »

What does Mo Collins’ Lorraine, Michael McDonald’s Stewart, and Alex Borstein’s Ms. Swan have in common? They’re all iconic characters hatched from the sketch show “Mad TV.” The comedy series, which ended its run in 2009, is getting the nostalgia revival treatment by the CW. The show, a prerecorded production similar to “Saturday Night Live,” jump-started the careers of a handful of unknown comics and created iconic bits with beloved characters. The revival comes hot on the heels of a 20th anniversary reunion special that reunited many of the series’ familiar faces. The new series, which will feature a brand-new cast, will go into production at the start of July. Los Angeles, like the original series, will be the production’s home base. Dirty Grandpa review: “Repulsive, offensive and terrible”

25 January 2016 2:30 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Dirty Grandpa review: Meet the most offensive, repulsive, most unlikable, disgusting film of the year so far.

Zac Efron and Robert De Niro lead this new R-Rated comedy from Dan Mazar, the talented writer and producer behind Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat movie, and the director of British comedy I Give It A Year. Mazar takes on his biggest project yet with Dirty Grandpa, a film that heavily relies on constant gross-out humour and multiple mutterings of the word shit, rather than wit.

Efron plays Jason, a successful lawyer who has just bagged a high-profile job at the law firm that his father works for. Unfortunately, there’s been a death in the family, and everyone has united to mourn the loss of Jason’s grandmother, including his grandpa, Dick (played by De Niro). At the wake, it becomes known that Dick has to travel to Florida the following day, »
