Wrestlemania 33 championship match changed, Mick Foley fired and more – WWE Raw, Mar. 20, 2017 review

21 March 2017 9:42 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Mick Foley No More

Mick Foley opened the show announcing his leave of absence effective immediately, reading a prepared statement from some index cards. But then good gawd almighty, he broke those index cards in half! Ripping the statement into shreds, Foley began to cut an impassioned promo, but his microphone was cut off. And then Stephanie McMahon came down to cut him off. He was fired, she fired him.

Then Sami Zayn of all people came down to defend Mick, which transitioned into a decent match against Samoa Joe. Sami tapped to the Coquina Clutch, hopefully positioning underdog babyface Sami as the next thorn in the Authority’s side.

That, or Foley just passed him the ‘Stephanie’s going to bury you every week’ torch.

Dana Brooke got a fair amount of offence in, losing to Charlotte. Unfortunately, the offence didn’t look any good. »

Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens Have ‘The Talk’

Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens opened Raw with ‘the talk’. You know, the ‘why did you break up with me and shove my head into an LCD screen’ talk? We’ve all had them. Owens continued the heartbreak from the Festival of Friendship, saying he didn’t stab his best friend in the back, because Jericho was never his best friend.

I don’t believe him, though. I think he really did love Chris. But his own blind ambition has forced him to rationalise otherwise. That’s the true sadness in this story.

They then made a match between themselves for the United States Championship at The Ultimate Thrill-ride Wrestlemania 33. Michael Cole did not let that tagline go.

The two brawled, and then Samoa Joe blindsided Chris, for Sami Zayn to come out and even the odds – it looks like we got ourselves a tag team match, »

Seth Rollins “unlikely” for Wrestlemania 33, rumored Nxt call-ups

27 February 2017 8:02 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Seth Rollins will be making his first appearance on WWE television since he reinjured his right knee tonight. Although he’s only been promoted for a sit down interview with Michael Cole, PWInsider are reporting that Rollins is actually in Green Bay for the show – meaning he very well could appear in front of the live crowd on TV.

To hype the big return, WWE.com gave an update on his condition in their Raw preview article:

“At this point, it seems unlikely that Rollins will be able to compete at this year’s WrestleMania. That would mean that the former WWE Champion will miss his second consecutive Show of Shows, this time thanks to Triple H’s “Destroyer.” Will Rollins confirm this unfortunate news, or will he have another message entirely for The Cerebral Assassin and The Samoan Submission Specialist?”

All this is most likely a wrestling ‘work’. Although »

Backstage heat on Tna star, Big WWE Wrestlemania 33 match cancelled?

24 February 2017 12:31 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Ever since his racist comments were leaked as part of the Gawker sex tape lawsuit in 2015, Hulk Hogan has mostly vanished from WWE. His Hall of Fame profile has been removed from their website, you can’t find any Hulkster merchandise on their shop, and his WWE contract was terminated.

Well, call of the search, guys. I’ve found him.

In Holland.

The Real American’s latest appearance is in a commercial for Dutch insurance company Centraal Beheer, where he stops a thief from stealing a woman’s handbag. He then delivers a series of very well-protected wrestling moves: a tombstone piledriver, a leg drop, a flurry of fists and a splash off the top of a gate – none of them ever connecting with the villain. Way to expose the business, Hulk.

The concept is that the insurance company can provide actual protection from theft, rather than the pretend version Hulkster offers. »

WWE Monday Night Raw Reaction 2/13/2017

14 February 2017 6:55 PM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Monday Night Raw is complete for another week. We had some interesting developments on the show, what with the Raw Women’s Championship Match, the sit down interview with Samoa Joe, and the Festival of Friendship. So how did the show go?

The Samoa Joe interview with Michael Cole was amazing. It gives us a great insight into Samoa Joe's character. What I loved most about the interview was the intensity he brought. He was able to tie in the very legitimate anger he feels for not being called to the WWE for 18 years into the story which made the whole interview feel real. I think back to similar interviews the WWE has held before for people like Mankind and Triple H. When they find a way to take a real life issue and weave it into a current story line, we as the fans end up winning because »

Why Bayley’s title win was a waste, Jeri-ko Explodes – WWE Raw, Feb. 13, 2017 review

There are two big parts of Raw I want to talk about in depth – the women’s main event and the…the other thing. We’ll come to that. So I’m just going to rattle through everything else that happened on the show first…

Roman Reigns still managed to stand tall over both the Raw tag team champs Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson in the opening bout. This was the worst thing on the show. If you don’t count the crippling emotional turmoil of…we’ll come to that.

The New Day want to succeed where Cm Punk failed. No, not making part-timers subject to the Wellness Policy. They want their own brand of ice cream. Kofi Kingston beat a very over Bo Dallas. Jack Gallagher then beat Noam Dar

Undertaker hurting backstage after Royal Rumble! Sasha Banks heel turn soon…

1 February 2017 12:58 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

A week or two ago, PWInsider reported that there’s backstage talk in WWE of moving Michael Cole to a more behind-the-scenes role. It’s probably a good idea. At WWE’s current rate of announcer acquisition, we’ll have 19 man booths by the end of the year. Which doesn’t just clutter the onscreen product. It’s also a severe health and safety hazard.

This is Jbl tripping over. Let’s never forget Jbl tripping over.

With Nigel McGuinness and Percy Watson being brought in alongside Tom Phillips for Nxt, who himself is on Smackdown’s four man commentary team with David Otunga, Jbl and Mauro Ranallo, who does play-by-play on 205 Live with Austin Aries and Corey Graves, who announces Raw with Cole and Byron Saxton – and former Ring of Honor and New Japan colour commentator Steve Corino recently joining the company – Cole himself fuelled the line-up speculation tweeting:

WWE Smackdown Live! Reaction 1/17/2017

18 January 2017 2:12 PM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Smackdown Live! is in the books for the week. The Blue Brand of the WWE is building up towards the Royal Rumble with their brand specific storylines. We saw the first WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship Cage Match as well as a special edition of The King’s Court with Jerry The King Lawler. How did the show hold up this week?

The show opened with the announcement from Shane McMahon that at the next Smackdown specific Pay Per View event Elimination Chamber, the WWE Championship will be defended by whomever the WWE Champion is at that point. A simple announcement but something the WWE has not been doing consistently as of late, promoting their events properly. We saw Aj Styles come out and complain that he would have to defend his title in the Chamber match with Shane reminding him that he may not have the title after his »

Randy Orton incident with WWE fan, ex-wwe stars return on Smackdown!

18 January 2017 8:22 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It must be tough keeping in shape when you’re a WWE superstar. There’s the constant travel, maintaining one’s diet on the road, and getting recognised by fans in the gym.

There are various ways to deal with this. There’s the Big Show method, where you use your giant abdominal muscles to scare everyone else away from the free weights area. There’s the John Cena way, where you just start squatting anyone who comes near you. And there’s the Randy Orton approach.

And, as you’ve probably guessed going by his savage replies to people on Twitter last week, that’s the least friendly version.

Speaking to the Nea Report, WWE fan Anthony Martin encountered Orton at his local gym on Monday before the Smackdown live event in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Being the guy “with a smile on his face and friendly demeanor” that he is, »

Triple H interested in Kenny Omega, WWE stars returning to Smackdown…

16 January 2017 8:50 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It’s hard to complain about WWE’s evil plans of world domination when they put on events like the UK Championship tournament over the weekend. A perfectly fine Night 1 was followed up by an absolutely cracking Night 2, with my current WWE match of the year in the final between Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne.

The real incredible thing is that Tyler Bate, the first ever United Kingdom Champion, is only 19. Michael Cole and Nigel McGuiness should’ve pointed that out more.

Both finalists were really over by the end of the night, with the excellent UK crowd cheering the face and booing the heel – quite the novelty on a WWE show these days. I’m just hoping Vince McMahon doesn’t hear Tyler’s name, and then give him a Master Bate character on the main roster. The gimmick is, he beats guys off…his championship title.
