24: Legacy spoiler-free episode 1 review

Chris Longo Feb 16, 2017

CTU has a new hero. Here are some spoiler-free thoughts on Fox's new reboot, 24: Legacy, which arrived in the UK last night...

As cynical and sick of franchises, reboots, revivals, and remakes as we are or pretend to be in the comments section (everyone seemed pretty stoked about Rogue One), audiences are smart enough to know that Hollywood won’t budge on this trend anytime soon. They’ll shake every last dollar they can get out of the Revival Era as long as we keep our sticky fingers on our smartphones, tablets, and remotes.

‘24’ 15th Anniversary: Executive Producers Pick Their Favorite Episodes

‘24’ 15th Anniversary: Executive Producers Pick Their Favorite Episodes
Fifteen years ago, on Nov. 6, 2001, “24” premiered on Fox. It was less than two months after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, and the country was still grieving, perhaps craving a series where the U.S. was, at the end of the day, victorious against the forces of terrorism.

The format was unlike anything that had been done before: Each of the 24 episodes of the season would occur in “real time,” totaling up to a very, very long day for protagonist Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland).

But “24” co-creator Joel Surnow wasn’t sure the audience would bite. “Real time was an unproven concept,” Surnow wrote to Variety. “We had no idea if it would have the desired effect — which was to create a heightened sense of urgency. We couldn’t even gauge it when the picture was cut together. It wasn’t until the final mixing session — with all the music and effects in — that we saw what this show

24 Legacy: Could Jack Bauer be its finest hour?

Tony Black on 24: Legacy…

If you were to name a TV character who helped define modern pop culture in the last decade or so, who would you say? Walter White maybe? Tony Soprano? All great shouts. Mine would be Jack Bauer. Oops sorry, Jack Bauer!!!!!! The hero of long running, real time action series 24, played by Kiefer Sutherland, went from being a relatively stable if maverick government agent in the very first season of the show, way back in 2001 (in the shadow of 9/11), all the way to a psychologically disturbed, ex-drug addict, ex-Chinese prisoner killing machine who had seen most of his extended family die (or become uber-villains), and almost always lose every woman he falls in love with, at which point he sometimes literally would point a gun in the air, fire it repeatedly and scream Aaaaaaaaaarrrrggggghhhh!

Jack, simply, became one of the most iconic action legends of all time,

Fox Orders ‘24’ Spinoff and ‘Star’ From Lee Daniels for 2016-17 Season

Fox Orders ‘24’ Spinoff and ‘Star’ From Lee Daniels for 2016-17 Season
Fox is jumping into the 2016-2017 television season, ordering “24: Legacy” and “Star” to series, Variety has learned.

The network has greenlit the “24” spinoff with a 12-episode order. “Star,” which hails from “Empire” co-creator Lee Daniels, landed a 13-episode order.

Corey Hawkins will topline the rebooted “24” in a completely new role, as the series is without Kiefer Sutherland — and Jack Bauer — this time around. However, Sutherland will serve as an exec producer on “Legacy,” marking his first time being listed as an Ep on “24,” There are no plans for him to reprise his role as Jack Bauer at this time.

The new series will retain the original show’s format of real-time storytelling with split screens and like the original, will represent one hour of an eventful day in each episode. The series revolves around a military hero’s (Hawkins) return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows

‘24′ Pilot Officially a Go at Fox, Action-Thriller To Be Revived Without Jack Bauer

After much talk, Fox is seriously considering bringing back “24” with a formal pilot order for a reboot of the series, titled “24: Legacy,” Variety has learned. The pilot will film this winter.

Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer character would not be part of the revival series, which will feature an all-new cast of characters, but will retain “24’s” format of real-time storytelling with split screens and like the original, each episode will represent one hour of an eventful day.

“24: Legacy” will revolve around a military hero’s return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back — compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

Original “24” producers Howard Gordon, Manny Coto, Evan Katz and Imagine’s Brian Grazer will return as exec producers.

Fox is hot on reboots lately,

Mip TV: Tandem, BBC, Cochran Team for Crusade Epic ‘Lionhearts’ (Exclusive)

Cannes – Shaping up as one of the big event TV series to come out of Europe as it ramps up ever more ambitious TV fiction, Rola Bauer’s Germany-based Tandem Productions (“Pillars of the Earth”), a Studiocanal company, is said to be developing epic TV drama “Lionshearts: The Crusade,” linking with the BBC and “24’s” Robert Cochran.

Helmer of the 2008’s first “Taken,” which gave Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp its biggest movie franchise ever, France’s Pierre Morel (“Taken”) is believed to have committed to direct the first two episodes.

Producer and co-creator of Fox’s “24,” Cochran is attached to “Lionshearts,” which turns on the most famous crusade of all, the Third Crusade of 1191-92. English-language and almost certainly a big epic BBC primetime series,

“Lionhearts: The Crusade” looks a firm candidate for a U.S. deal of some sorts. As Tandem prexy Bauer pointed out last month, made over the last 15 years,

Talk of a 24 movie resurfaces following the success of 24: Live Another Day

Following Jack Bauer’s successful return to TV screens earlier this year with 24: Live Another Day, it seems that Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment are now looking to revive their plans for a 24 movie.

TV Line is reporting that a new feature idea for a 24 movie “is kicking around”, which Grazer is particularly keen on, although the pitch is yet to be taken to Fox. However, it’s said that Fox may prefer another miniseries, given the comments from Fox chairman and CEO Peter Rice back in July, when he suggested that the show could be renewed for what would be a tenth season.

A 24 movie has long been on the cards, with series co-creators Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran and showrunner Howard Gordon initially planning a feature film between the sixth and seventh season of the show. It was then decided to hold off until the conclusion of the eighth season,

'24: Live Another Day' producer reveals who almost got killed off in the finale
[Spoiler alert: This post discusses details from the July 14 season finale of 24: Live Another Day.]

24: Live Another Day could have been Jack Bauer’s last day. Executive producer Howard Gordon revealed to Deadline that the writers considered killing off the counter-terrorism agent in the season finale of the limited series.

“We certainly tried out a lot of different endings and we rearranged the furniture every which way in the room,” Gordon said. “So we knew what it looked like for other characters to have met with different ends and we tried them all on, up to and including Jack himself. This has always been a show that is really about the days and the

Call it the calm before the storm. After a couple of weeks in which the action has been fairly frequent, the focus is narrowing as this season nears a close. This is a streamlined, effective episode that hits all the beats it needs to without much fluff. There are a few loose ends to tie up, and the wham-bam is a touch thin, but they’re necessary movements.

Jack has a busy hour, first with squirming out of the Russian assault (thanks to some backup), before discovering that Cheng has resurfaced to snare the override, learning that Mark was involved with the attack, and forcing Mark to help them capture the Russian bad guy. Oh, and he has his long-awaited heart-to-heart with

And so we must say farewell to one of the finest actors to have graced this show. And what a way to go out.

There is more than a scent of resigned doddering in this week’s outing. Jack’s mission is fairly rote, as he needs to get Heller out of the presidential enclave without anyone knowing, but it accounts for much of the running time. He forms an uneasy alliance with Mark, who keeps almost everyone else in the administration occupied while Jack and Heller make a beeline for the rendezvous with Margot.

Yet the president and the terrorist never get to meet face to face. There’s no hidden agenda in Heller’s decision to hand himself over to his foe.

  • OnTheFlix
Recently, TV Line talked with 24's executive producer, Howard Gordon, and he dished that 17 missing hours is going to eventually get filled in, some way, some how before the finale show airs on July 14th. Currently, season 9: Live Another Day has been running in real time, meaning only 7 hours have passed, leaving this other 17 hours out there just waiting to be made up. However, Howard couldn't reveal any more than that as he claimed, "We’ve been sworn to secrecy.” Additionally, they asked if Kiefer Sutherland aka Jack ,might pass the torch to the very hot Yvonne Strahovksi aka Kate Morgan if 24 gets renewed for a new 10th season. Co-creator, Robert Cochran and Howard answered by stating: "I think it’s a possibility. There are no specific plans right now, but that’s the kind of thing we’d consider.
