DC Comics March 2012 Solicitations

12 December 2011 2:00 PM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.

What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.

Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!

As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

Boccaccio ’70 (1962)

Synopsis: Four legendary filmmakers direct some of Europe’s biggest stars in Boccaccio ’70, a landmark anthology film. Mario Monicelli (Big Deal on Madonna Street), Federico Fellini (8½), Luchino Visconti (The Leopard) and Vittorio De Sica (Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow) direct Sophia Loren, Anita Ekberg, Romy Schneider and more through four stories of unashamed eros. Modeled on Boccaccio’s Decameron, they are comic moral tales about the hypocrisies surrounding sex in 1960s Italy. Monicelli’s “Renzo e Luciana” (cut out of the original American release) is a frothy tale of young love and office politics in the big city. Fellini’s notorious “Le tentazioni del dottor Antonio” features Ekberg as a busty model in a milk advertisement whose image begins to haunt an aging prude. Visconti’s “Il Lavoro” stars Romy Schneider as a trophy wife enduring her husband’s very public affairs, »

DC Comics November Solicitations

Once again, a look into the future, with some very interesting looks at the past, including the reprinting of a comic that was never released in America in the first place, the infamous Elseworlds 80 Page Giant that was pulped because of concerns about Superman’s babysitter.

And of course, a whole lot of #3 issues, which is traditionally the issue where Spider-Man guest stars.

Shall we? Surely!

As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

New York's 39 Hottest Guys in Theater!

2 June 2011 6:11 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

A little over two years ago, AfterElton.com brought readers a list of the 37 Hottest Guys in Theater, and since then, the New York Stage has only become increasingly sexified. The lines between Broadway and Hollywood continue to blur, and as young men come to recognition in NYC, they're often quickly whisked away to Tinseltown to showcase not only their amazing talent, but often they're breathtaking good looks.

While it's tempting to include every Hollywood hottie who graces the stage on this list (a certain Lee Pace and Luke Macfarlane spring to mind), the point here is to honor the men who are mostly known for rockin' the live stages here in New York.

And so, without further ado, we present, in alphabetical order, the list (39!) of this year's hottest guys in theater!

Ryan Gosling Revs Up Cannes With ‘Drive’

Getty Ryan Gosling at Cannes

If the Cannes audience’s wild applause, laughter and cheers are any indication, Nicolas Winding Refn’s violent thriller, “Drive,” has got what it takes to become a cult movie. For one, there’s a lot of blood–heads are smashed like melons or blown to bits with heroic sang-froid– and high-speed thrilling car chases abound to the tune of a throbbing catchy rock soundtrack. Still, it’s all counterbalanced with poetic flyover shots of La, »
