What Had the Nashville Cast Singing This Weekend?

15 September 2014 6:20 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

The cast of Nashville threw a party at Rayna James's house this weekend - and even the fictional country star's ex was invited in. "This is the first time I've been allowed back in my house since Rayna kicked me out," actor Eric Close (Teddy Conrad) joked about his TV ex, played by Connie Britton. "It's really good to be back!" Just over a week before the show's premiere (Sept. 24 on ABC), Close and several other cast members partied and performed Saturday night at the Nashville house that's used as Rayna's home to raise money for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. »

'Nashville' Postmortem: Callie Khouri on Rayna's Choice, Will's Bold Move

14 May 2014 8:00 PM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

[Warning: This story contains spoilers from "On the Other Hand," the season-two finale of Nashville.] ABC's country music drama Nashville delivered a more emotional season finale but still managed to throw all of its cards up in the air. After its freshman finale was met with critical backlash, series creator Callie Khouri opted to tell a different story while bringing a traditionally soapy cliffhanger to the show. During the hour, Luke (Will Chase) proposes to Rayna (Connie Britton) in the middle of a concert, much to the chagrin of Teddy (Eric Close), Deacon (Charles Esten) and their

Nashville: ABC Series Renewed for Season Three

10 May 2014 9:51 AM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

It looked touch and go there for awhile but ABC has now renewed Nashville for a third season of 22 episodes.

The Nashville TV show revolves around a rising country star (Hayden Panettiere) and a legendary superstar (Connie Britton) whose fame is fading. Others in the cast are Charles Esten, Eric Close, Clare Bowen, Sam Palladio, Jonathan Jackson, Chris Carmack, Lennon Stella, and Maisy Stella.

The show was on the bubble for cancellation last season, thanks to lackluster ratings. The numbers have dropped even lower for this season and it's down by 21% in the demo. Season two of Nashville currently averages a 1.5 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic with 5.34 million viewers.

It looked likely to be renewed for a third season, despite the low numbers and the high expense of the show's top talent. However, Nashville is shot »

ABC Renews ‘Nashville’ for Season 3

10 May 2014 5:03 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

ABC and Lionsgate TV hammered out a deal late Friday to bring county music drama “Nashville” back for a third season.

Renewal talks on the show, which lenses in its titular city, were complicated by the fact that the state of Tennessee has recently downscaled its production tax incentive program. That took a bite out of the rebate coin that Lionsgate and ABC Studios could bank on for a third season.

There was also wrangling between ABC and Lionsgate over the size of the order, with ABC initially offering a 13-episode pickup. Deal is expected to be for a full 22-episode season but details could not be confirmed late Friday.

“Nashville” has not been a ratings powerhouse but it performs respectably enough and is an internal favorite at the network. ABC is also invested in the annual Country Music Assn. Award franchise and other C&W-themed special programming.

Nashville: Season Two Ratings

3 April 2014 2:06 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Last season, it looked like Nashville might be cancelled but ABC decided to renew the show instead. Will the ratings rise in season two so its future is assured or will the numbers drop so it cancelled this time? We'll have to wait and see.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available -- usually the next day, around 11:30am Est/8:30am Pst. Refresh to see the latest. »

Did 'Nashville' out-soap itself in 'Too Far Gone?'

5 February 2014 8:30 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Up until now, "Nashville" has been able to walk the very fine line between drama and soap opera (minus the whole Season 1 finale car crash, of course). But on Wednesday (Feb. 5), the ABC southern series officially cemented its status as a soap.

Sure, the drama was always present in copious amounts, but as mayor of Nashville Teddy Conrad (Eric Close) watches his ex-con, ex-father-in-law Lamar Wyatt (Powers Boothe) drop to the ground in front of him with his second (!) heart attack and does nothing while the man dies right in front of his eyes as revenge for Lamar orchestrating Teddy's wife's murder, it can't be denied any more. "Nashville" is a soap opera.

Now, it's not like that's a horrible thing. Soap operas are entertaining with their over-the-top drama and are a great distraction from everyday life -- which is really all TV is. But what "Nashville" loses as a »

After splitting from Teddy (Eric Close) last season, the country music diva has revived her career thanks to bad-boy Liam (Michiel Huisman), found a new love interest in fellow star Luke (Will Chase) and, after a near-death car crash, still can't seem to shake her attraction to former flame Deacon (Charles Esten). While fans are still rooting for Rayna and Deacon to find solid footing again -- they have a shared interest in the emotional (and musical) well-being of their daughter, Maddie (Lennon
