Cobie Smulders and Jessica Hynes lead cast of British comedy Songbird

Unstoppable Entertainment have announced that Cobie Smulders (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Jessica Hynes (Bridget Jones’s Baby, Spaced) are leading the cast of the new British comedy Songbird, which has just commenced principal photography.

Written and directed by Jamie Adams (Black Mountain Poets, Benny & Jolene), the film also stars Noel Clarke (BrotherhoodStar Trek: Into Darkness), Ian Smith (Sweat the Small Stuff, Popatron), Laura Patch (Star Stories, Life Begins), Holli Dempsey (Dad’s Army, Derek) and Emily Atack (Dad’s Army, The Inbetweeners). The official synopsis reads:

Joanne Sykes is lead singer of once popular 90’s indie rock band The Filthy Dukes. They’ve been on the road since 1996, slowly but surely managing to play 150-capped venues. We find the Dukes at their last ever gig, and as the band falls apart so does Joanne; she’s finds out her boyfriend is cheating »

Cobie Smulders may just regret to signing up for British Comedy, Songbird, as filming has begun in an arctic-like Cornwall for the month of January alongside Britain’s own comedy legend, Jessica Hynes.

Songbird is the fourth in the line of original features from writer/director Jamie Adams (Brokeback Mountain) who has teamed up with Noel Clarke and Jason Maza’s Unstoppable Entertainment to produce the feature. Clarke has also managed to get himself a place on the cast alongside Ian Smith (Sweat the Small Stuff, Popatron), Laura Patch (Star Stories, Life Begins), Holli Dempsey (Dad’s Army, Derek) and Emily Atack (Dad’s Army, The Inbetweeners).

Cobie Smulders, who starred with Tom Cruise in “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” and also appeared in “Marvel’s Agents of Shield” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” is to lead the cast of British comedy “Songbird,” alongside Jessica Hynes, who appeared in “Bridget Jones’s Baby” and was the co-star and co-writer, with Simon Pegg, of cult TV comedy “Spaced.”

“Songbird” is the fourth feature from writer/director Jamie Adams (“Black Mountain Poets,” “Benny & Jolene”), and is produced by Noel Clarke and Jason Maza for Unstoppable Entertainment, which had a U.K. hit last year with “Brotherhood.” Maggie Monteith at Dignity Film Finance is backing the project, which started to shoot this week on location in western England.
