Perhaps because ABC owns General Hospital outright, the network sometimes doesn't announce if their sole surviving soap opera has been renewed for another season. (They didn't make an announcement about the 2016-17 season.) Of course, they'd certainly let us know if the show had been cancelled. Will Gh survive to see a 55th season (2017-18)? Agnes Nixon, creator of the long-running soap operas “All My Children” and “One Life to Live,” died Wednesday morning, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. She was 88. “All My Children” ran for 41 years on ABC, until 2011, while “One Life to Live” ran for more than 43 years on the same network, until 2012. Among the groundbreaking moments delivered by “All My Children” was the first onscreen lesbian kiss on daytime television in 2003, and a storyline about a transgender character’s coming out in 2006. Tyler Christopher has checked out of “General Hospital.” Christopher, who’s played Nikolas Cassadine on the ABC soap for 10 years, will not be returning to the series, a spokesperson for “General Hospital” told TheWrap. Christopher, who stars in the Brett Eichenberger-directed film “Pretty Broken,” due out next year, took a break from the show earlier this year, with Nick Stabile temporarily stepping into the role. Because as it turns out, contract talks between Tyler Christopher and General Hospital “fell apart” in August, Soap Opera Digest is reporting, and as such he won’t be returning to the role of Nikolas Cassadine, from which he took a hiatus in May.
The Alphabet Network has greenlit a pilot for Deception, a magic-themed drama written by Fedak that also boasts über producer Greg Berlanti and Blindspot creator Martin Gero among its EPs. Magician David Kwong, who has worked as a creative consultant on Blindspot and the feature film Now You See Me, will serve as a co-producer.
