Received an English language education in Hong Kong and worked as a law
secretary until he began acting at age twenty-one.
Was known as Oriental Charlie for his comedic similarities to comic
Charles Chaplin. He played in many Asian films as a Chaplinesque tramp with a
bowler hat, mustache and cane.
Soon after he died, an all star Cantonese remake of Alfred Hitchcock's
Rear Window (1954) was made as a tribute to him with all the film's proceeds going
to his family.
