Mark Duplass Joins Zero Dark Thirty

22 May 2012 9:41 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Kathryn Bigelow seems intent on adding a Most Eclectic Cast award to the Oscars she already has in the cabinet. She's been shooting Bin Laden pic Zero Dark Thirty for a while, and has now added Mark Duplass in what Deadline is calling a “key” supporting role. What that exactly means remains locked behind the film’s security wall, but it’s certainly an interesting choice since he's not someone normally found in a tense thriller. Duplass is usually associated with the movies he makes with his brother Jay, such as Cyrus and the recent Jeff, Who Lives At Home. But he’s also a busy working actor, with films including Safety Not Guaranteed, Your Sister’s Sister and People Like Us all set for release this year.Duplass is joining a cast that already boasts Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Chris Pratt, Kyle Chandler, Mark Strong, Frank Grillo, »

Mark Duplass Lands ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Role; Bobby Cannavale Latest to Join Woody Allen’s Next Film

22 May 2012 9:15 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

I think, at this point, it’s best to just suck it up and accept that Kathryn Bigelow‘s Zero Dark Thirty will add actors years and years after the actual thing gets released. It’s just how frequent these updates have been and, what’s more, this is happening more than two months after the film actually began production, too.

Next up on that front, Deadline reports that writer-director Mark Duplass (Your Sister’s Sister, Safety Not Guaranteed) has been granted a “key supporting role” in the film — but, as is typical with Zero Dark Thirty‘s casting, we can’t know what actually makes said supporting role “key.” But I like to imagine that, in a film about the hunt for Osama bin Laden, everybody’s got something important to do, and especially when they’re played by Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Édgar Ramírez, Mark Strong, »

Mark Duplass Joins Kathryn Bigelow's 'Zero Dark Thirty,' Bobby Cannavale Joins Woody Allen's Latest

22 May 2012 9:06 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Aside from the superb films he co-directs with his brother Jay, like "Baghead," "Cyrus" and "Jeff Who Lives At Home," we've been seeing more and more of Mark Duplass as an actor recently. The writer/director/star appears in cult comedy series "The League," and has recently cropped up in indie festival favorites like "Your Sister's Sister" and "Safety Not Guaranteed," as well as in a role in Lawrence Kasdan's "Darling Companion." But it looks like the actor's just taken his first major studio role, in a film that's one of our most anticipated of the year.

Despite Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty" (her film about the hunt for 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden) having been filming for quite some time now, it's still adding cast members, and the latest on board, according to Deadline, is Duplass, who'll take a 'key supporting role.' 'Zero' is very different from anything the actor's done before, »

‘Argo’ starring Ben Affleck and Bryan Cranston – trailer review

18 May 2012 6:59 AM, PDT | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

Argo

Directed by: Ben Affleck

Starring: Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman

Rating: R

Release Date: October 12, 2012

Trailer Score: 9/10

Thoughts by Tsr: Gone Baby Gone? Great. The Town? Ditto. Argo? Based on this trailer it looks like Ben Affleck will make it three for three. I’ve been looking forward to this since first hearing about it, in part because of the talent involved, but also because of how out there the (true) story is. I mean, who wouldn’t want to watch a crack team attempt to rescue hostages by posing as a film crew making a science fiction movie?

Considering how weird the story is, I was curious to see what sort of tone the film would go for. The trailer takes the best of both worlds approach, deftly mixing the serious hostage situation with the more inherently humorous plan. Alan Arkin, John Goodman, and Bryan Cranston all get a chuckle-worthy line, »

'Battleship,' 'The Dictator,' And More: Double Feature Friday

18 May 2012 6:50 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

In honor of two separate Brooklyn Decker films hitting theaters this weekend, we have recommended only movies that don't feature Brooklyn Decker, so sorry fans of "Just Go With It."

Check out this week's Double Feature Friday!

"Battleship" & "Friday Night Lights"

There was a time, not so long ago, when Peter Berg, instead of directing films "From the Makers of Transformers," could make a movie like this adaptation of the book by Buzz Bissinger. In the years since it's release, against all odds, the TV series that spun off from "Friday Night Lights" eclipsed the original thanks to delightful turns by Kyle Chandler and "Battleship" star Taylor Kitsch. The 2004 starring Billy Bob Thornton and the future Mrs. Taylor, Connie Britton, delivers on all the same honest notes that made the series such a wonderful show but does so in a slightly darker shade of Panther blue. Then again, if you just want a Kitsch fix, »

Frank Grillo Joins Kathryn Bigelow's Military Thriller Zero Dark Thirty

17 May 2012 | The Daily BLAM! | See recent The Daily BLAM! news »

Academy Award winning director Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) is currently filming her next military-laced project Zero Dark Thirty, which until recently carried the working title Kill Bin Laden. Warrior star Joel Edgerton will star as the lead special operative on the hunt for the infamous terrorist. After several re-writes of the film's screenplay took place that incorporated the much publicized Seal Team Six firefight which lead to the death of Bin Laden, filming was scheduled to take place in Pakistan this Spring but moved to India when the former's government denied the filmmakers access. Frank Grillo (Warrior, The Grey) has been revealed as the latest addition to the cast which includes Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Edgar Ramirez, Mark Strong, Chris Pratt, Kyle Chandler, Jennifer »

'Warrior' Star Frank Grillo Joins The Cast Of Kathryn Bigelow's Bin Laden Movie

15 May 2012 5:38 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

At this point, we're beginning to suspect that in order to cast her still-untitled film about the mission to kill Osama Bin Laden, Kathryn Bigelow incepted us, found out all our favorite actors and actresses, and put them in her movie. First, she cast Australian actor Jason Clarke from "Brotherhood," and "Parks & Recreation" scene stealer Chris Pratt. Then came rising star Joel Edgerton, of "Warrior" not-quite-fame, along with "Carlos" star Edgar Ramirez, 'Tinker Tailor' stand out Mark Strong, and The Playlist's Woman of the Year 2011, Jessica Chastain. And after that? The always-wonderful Jennifer Ehle, and Coach Taylor himself, "Friday Night Lights" and "Super 8" star Kyle Chandler, along with Harold Perrineau Jr, Nash Edgerton and Fares Fares.

But despite filming having been underway for months, it seems that Bigelow isn't quite done hitting our sweet spot, as Variety reports that Frank Grillo, who co-starred with Edgerton in "Warrior," and was »

Frank Grillo Latest to Join Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘Zero Dark Thirty’

15 May 2012 5:19 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

The name “Frank Grillo” does not get thrown around a whole lot, but I think that’s going to change over the next few years. The memorable (albeit small) turns in decent-to-strong films like Warrior and The Grey count for something — well, I at least like to think they count for something — but Joe Carnahan‘s plans to have him lead the Death Wish remake is, quite easily, the biggest step of his entire career thus far. And it’s not a bad step in its own right, either.

But there’s still another supporting turn waiting for him — a good one, it seems. According to Variety, Grillo is the latest (and possibly one of the final) additions to Kathryn Bigelow‘s Osama bin Laden film, tentatively titled Zero Dark Thirty. We don’t know who he’ll be playing, or how big his role will prove to be, but »

Kyle Chandler Will Take Leonardo DiCaprio Down in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’

10 May 2012 2:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Kyle Chandler should be one of the biggest leading men in Hollywood. That’s really all there is to it. Post-Friday Night Lights, the Emmy-winning actor has started to line up some really solid feature work, like Argo, Broken City, and Zero Dark Thirty. Seeing such a talented actor getting some big breaks lessens the sting of the end of Fnl – just a bit. But Chandler isn’t content to work with just Affleck, Bigelow, and Hughes, though, he wants the big guns. Deadline Dillon reports that Chandler has now joined the cast of Martin Scorsese‘s The Wolf of Wall Street. Leonardo DiCaprio is already on board to play the lead, Jordan Belfort, as the film is based on Belfort’s memoir about his dramatic rise and fall on Wall Street, one punctuated with both bad personal (drugs! booze! parties!) and professional decisions. Jonah Hill is also set for the film, playing »

Kyle Chandler will express America's disappointment with its stockbrokers in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf Of Wall Street

With Jonah Hill already on board to play the guy who eventually explodes with splenetic rage on Leonardo DiCaprio's selfish stockbroker, Martin Scorsese's The Wolf Of Wall Street can move on to the authority figure who must be the stand-in for the audience's sense of decency. And of course, currently no one is a better funnel for America's wounded disappointment than Kyle Chandler, who has signed on to play the FBI agent who eventually takes DiCaprio down after the latter amasses a huge fortune through shady means, then blows it all on alcohol, drugs, and women »

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Big Wolves: Kyle Chandler Joins Wall Street Drama

10 May 2012 8:00 AM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

For five seasons, Kyle Chandler gained rave reviews on "Friday Night Lights." The only problem was nobody actually watched it. Now, though, Chandler is turning that buzz into a big time movie career — and, according to Deadline, he's just landed his biggest role yet as a crusading FBI agent in the upcoming Martin Scorsese drama "The Wolf of Wall Street."

Looks like Chandler must have clear eyes and a full heart, because these days he just can't lose.

Based on the bestselling memoir by Jordan Belfort, "The Wolf of Wall Street" tells the story of how Belfort became a Wall Street millionaire by the age of 26 before losing everything in a downward spiral of drugs and other foolish nonsense. Leonardo DiCaprio is set to play Belfort, while Jonah Hill is on board to play Belfort's best buddy.

Considering both of those fellows are Oscar nominees and will be directed by legendary Oscar winning director Scorsese, »

Kyle Chandler To Hunt Leonardo DiCaprio in 'The Wolf of Wall Street'

10 May 2012 7:29 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

After a breakout performance in J.J. Abrams' Super 8 last year, it seems Kyle Chandler is on the edge of true stardom (on the big screen). He's gearing up for a big project this year with Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty (formerly Kill Bin Laden), and Deadline reports that the actor has now secured a role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill in Martin Scorsese's newest movie, The Wolf of Wall Street. He'll play FBI Agent Coleman, the man who tracks and eventually catches Jordan Belfort, an up-and-coming Wall Street stockbroker who gets wildly successful and subsequently gets caught up in drugs, excess, and greed. Chandler is an excellent addition to this cast, and it's great to see such a crowd-pleasing actor (from his iconic role in "Friday Night Lights," especially) get a shot at working with titans of the industry like Marty and Leo.
