Terry O'Quinn as Gavin Doran in "666 Park Avenue" (ABC/Andrew Eccles)
ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.
Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.
It’s tricky to get a solid feel »

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the third one announced. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on ABC.
An odd year for the once mighty juggernaut which can still pack 'em in. It had surprise success stories with "Once Upon a Time" and "Revenge", the latter becoming an unexpected international hit, and several shows have gotten renewals despite more modest numbers. Still, with it battling with NBC for the third and fourth position overall, the network has to introduce ten shows over the course of the season in the hope of getting a few stickers.
Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen include the fashion label dynasty soap "Americana", ABC's update of the 90's "Beauty and the Beast" TV series, the Roland Emmerich-produced thriller "Dark Horse", the »

Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) is returning with a new programme in January next year, taking the lead in ABC’s How to Live with your Parents (For the Rest of your Life).
After Mad Love was cancelled after a short-lived season, following Chalke’s leading role in Scrubs, we heard earlier this year that she’d signed on for a new comedy which has just had its first trailer debut.
Julie Anne Robinson (Weeds, One for the Money) is directing the pilot, from a script by Claudia Lonow (Accidentally on Purpose), with Elizabeth Perkins, Brad Garrett, and Orlando Jones, and Rachel Eggleston playing Chalke’s young daughter.
“Polly (Sarah Chalke) is a single mom who’s been divorced for almost a year. The transition wasn’t easy for her, especially in this economy. So, like a lot of young people living in this new reality, she and her daughter, Natalie (Rachel Eggleston »

Vulture's TV critic, Matt Zoller Seitz, will be watching and evaluating the early clips and concepts of each of the new shows unveiled at this year's Upfronts. The Family ToolsThe gist: A father (J.K. Simmons) can't run the family tool business anymore and gives it to his son (Kyle Bornheimer), a seminary student. Based on the UK show White Van Man.Gut reaction: I love J.K. Simmons, but this looks too wacky and warm for its own good. Modern Family, what have you wrought? How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life)The gist: Single mom Polly (Sarah Chalke) gets divorced and moves into her parents' house with her daughter Natalie (Rachel Eggelston). The 'rents are played by Elizabeth Perkins and Brad Garrett. Daughter and parents clash in an Odd-Couple way; she's uptight, they're relaxed and frisky.Gut reaction: Another quasi-movie-like domestic sitcom in the Modern Family »

How to Live With Your Parents: First Look at ABC's New Sarah Chalke Comedy
Scrubs star Sarah Chalke is returning to TV this coming season in How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life).
Chalke plays Polly, a single mom of young daughter Natalie (Rachel Eggleston), who has been divorced for nearly a year. But the dissolution of her marriage in this economy forced her to make a terrible choice that no kid really wants to make: she moved back home with her parents, eccentric couple Elaine (Elizabeth Perkins) and Max (Brad Garrett).
Of course, uptight, vanilla Polly clashes with her laid-back, sexually adventurous parents. Can this household come together to raise young Natalie? Fortunately, Polly has another support system in her best friend Gregg (Orlando Jones), her loveable yet irresponsible ex-husband Julian (Jon Dore) and her cool and fun assistant Jenn (Rebecca Delgado Smith).

Single mom Polly (Sarah Chalke) needs a fresh start, and so she seeks help from her mom and dad. Whoops.
Chalke ("Scrubs," "Mad Love") plays a woman determined to be the "best single working mom in the universe" in "How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life)," which easily takes this season's crown for longest show title. She looks to her folks (Elizabeth Perkins and Brad Garrett) for support and a place to live, but mom and dad are pretty happy with their empty-nest life, and they don't see much upside into changing their ways for Polly and her daughter, Natalie (Rachel Eggleston).
Chalke is an expert at playing tightly wound characters, and Perkins is working some of the same self-centered vibe she did on "Weeds" (though without the nasty streak). Garrett, meanwhile, gets to work his deadpan in a single-camera comedy instead of playing to »

ABC is shaking things up for its 2012-2013 schedule.
"Revenge" is heading over to Sunday nights at 9 p.m. Et, the slot the now dead "Desperate Housewives" occupied up until last week. Old standby "Grey's Anatomy" is staying put, as is "Scandal," but they're paired with newcomer "Last Resort."
In a press conference call right after the schedule announcement, ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee said he's not concerned about launching a big action show at 8 p.m. -- especially not "Last Resort," from "The Shield" creator Shawn Ryan.
"I have so much faith in Shawn. You get a sense in this job of the showrunners who really know how to drive the train. Don't forget -- we've opened strong action shows at that hour, and certainly there's an audience for it. We believe strongly in the strength of this show. Upfronts season is in full swing, and today, ABC made calls to the casts and creative teams behind several of its new pilots to congratulate them on joining the ABC fam. We're particularly looking forward to seeing "Friday Night Lights" star Connie Britton in "Nashville," a country-musical soap in which she'll star alongside Hayden Panettiere.
In other country news, Reba McEntire will star in "Malibu Country," who moves her family -- including mom played by Lily Tomlin -- to Malibu from Nashville.
ABC has additionally picked up "The Neighbors," about a family who moves to New Jersey and finds out that their neighbors are aliens. Horror fans will enjoy "666 Park Avenue," about a supernatural haunted apartment building -- it stars, among others, "Brothers & Sisters'" Dave Annable and "One Tree Hill's" Rob Buckley.

ABC went on a bit of a pilot pick-up spree today for the 2012-2013 TV season, ordering five new dramas and four new comedies to series.
The five dramas are "Last Resort," "666 Park Avenue," "Nashville," "Zero Hour" and "Red Widow" (formerly "Penoza") -- and that's not counting "Mistresses" starring Alyssa Milano, which was already ordered to series.
On the comedy front, there's "Family Tools," "The Neighbors," "Malibu Country" and "How to Live With Your Parents For the Rest of Your Life" (which we can't even begin to abbreviate, but hope they'll rename so we don't have to).
Here's the scoop on the dramas:
"Last Resort" is an action-adventure drama from "The Shield" creator Shawn Ryan. Shot in Hawaii, which subs for the South Pacific, it revolves around the crew of a U.S. nuclear submarine that disobeys orders and becomes a target for everyone from Nato to the mob. Andre Braugher, »

Dozens of shows learned their fate this week so we’re going to run down the latest as they came in on Friday evening. The headline news included series such as Nikita, Happy Endings, Parks & Rec, Body of Proof, and yes, even Whitney being renewed while NBC’s Awake and Harry’s Law were not.
Make note of how many 13-episode seasons were ordered. The thinking may be that the networks are learning that the cable model does work better, because it 1) allows more shows to be added to the lineup and 2) keeps the interest going through the fall instead of trying to carry the momentum through the holiday breaks. That doesn’t give fans many episodes to be excited about, but in the case of Community, any word of renewal, regardless of number was good news.
Networks could also be thinking the strategy behind 13-episode seasons could be to »

ABC, meanwhile, has also given the green light to nine pilots, including one starring all-time TV Fanatic favorite, Connie Britton. The shows that will be included on the 2012-2013 schedule are:

ABC Picks Up 666 Park, How to Live with Your Parents..., Last Resort
ABC has added to their pickup list from earlier, this time bringing on two additional dramas and an additional comedy for the upcoming season.
666 Park Avenue takes place at The Drake, an apartment building whose tenants don't know that their home is enveloped by the supernatural. Every tenant has made a deal with the Devil and that's not quite the environment that the new managers, played by Rachael Taylor and Dave Annabale, had in mind when they took the job. 666 Park Avenue stars Vanessa Williams, Terry O'Quinn, Robert Buckley, and Mercedes Masohn, among others.
From Shawn Ryan, Last Resort takes a look at a submarine crew that disregards orders to fire nuclear weapons at Pakistan. As a result, they themselves are hit, eventually sunk, and fighting for their lives. However, the crew manages to gather themselves and relocate »
