USA Network’s ‘The Tap’ Sets Cast, Director

USA Network’s drama pilot “The Tap” has secured a director and principal cast, Variety has learned.

Simon Cellan Jones, whose credits include “Boardwalk Empire” will direct the pilot, which is set at Yale University circa 1969 against the backdrop of the cultural and political unrest of the era.

Hailing from Universal Cable Productions, “The Tap” has also lined up four cast members.

Colin Woodell, recently of “Masters of Sex” and soon to be seen on “Designated Survivor,” will play Jay Butler, who is looking to secure his future by joining Skull and Bones, Yale’s most elite and powerful secret society. Erinn Westbrook of “Awkward,” “Glee” and “Jane the Virgin” will play Gloria Murphy, one of Yale’s first female students and one of the few black students in her class. USA Network Delays ‘Shooter’ Again, in Wake of More Shootings

USA Network has pushed the premiere of its new Ryan Phillippe action series “Shooter” again – this time to fall.

This represents the second time “Shooter” has been delayed. The show was originally scheduled to premiere on July 19, but was pushed back to July 27 in the wake of recent shootings, including the attack on police in Dallas.

But now with additional shootings dominating headlines, including the most recent Baton Rouge police killings, the network and studios Paramount TV and Universal Cable Productions have decided the climate isn’t right this summer for the show.

USA Network has moved the premiere of drama series “Shooter” to fall. The move comes as gun violence has overtaken the news, with deadly shootings in Orlando, Minnesota, Baton Rouge and Dallas generating intense media scrutiny and in some cases sparking protests nationwide.

Production on the series, currently being filmed in Santa Clarita, Calif., will continue uninterrupted, signaling that USA remains committed to airing the show. No specific premiere date has yet been set.

Shooter” stars Ryan Phillippe as a sniper and U.S. military veteran who attempts to clear his name after being wrongly accused of a crime. The series had originally been scheduled to premiere July 19, but was pushed last week to July 26 following the murder of five police officers by a sniper in Dallas.

‘Mr. Robot’ Season 2 Trailer Promises ‘Control Is an Illusion’

USA Network has released the first trailer for Season 2 of breakout hit “Mr. Robot,” along with first looks at the cabler’s upcoming drama series “Shooter” and “Falling Water.” The network unveiled the new promos during NBCUniversal’s Upfront presentation in New York on Monday.

Mr. Robot” Season 2 will premiere Wednesday, July 13 at 10 p.m., and follows Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek), a young cyber-security engineer who becomes involved in the underground hacker group “fsociety” after being recruited by their mysterious leader (Christian Slater). In the trailer, the world is still reeling from the group’s last hack — even President Obama is weighing in on fsociety — and Elliot is trying to account for the three days of missing time he experienced after that night.

USA Picks Up Phillippe-Led "Shooter" Series

USA Network has officially ordered to series the small screen remake of the 2007 feature "Shooter".

Ryan Phillippe steps into the role Mark Wahlberg played in the original - an off-the-grid former Marine sniper who is coaxed into action to thwart the killing of the U.S. President.

Double-crossed and framed for the attempt, he must call upon all his skills to avoid capture while hunting down and exposing the traitors who set him up. The story is adapted from Stephen Hunter's novel "Point of Impact".

Omar Epps co-stars in the series which has scored a ten episode order but does not yet have a premiere date. John Hlavin ("The Shield") wrote and Simon Cellan Jones ("Ballers") directed the pilot.

Hlavin will executive produce alongside Phillippe, Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

‘Shooter’ Gets Series Pickup at USA Network with Ryan Phillippe Starring

USA Network has picked up Ryan Phillippe drama “Shooter” to series, Variety has learned.

Phillippe produces and stars as Bob Lee Swagger, an expert marksman living in exile who is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president.  Omar Epps plays Isaac Johnson, an ex-Marine and Swagger’s former commanding officer.  Now a Secret Service Agent, he solicits Swagger’s expertise for a clandestine operation that has disastrous results.

The show, based on the bestselling Stephen Hunter novel “Point of Impact” and the 2007 film starring Mark Wahlberg, hails from Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions. Executive producers are Wahlberg, of Closest to the Hole Productions; Stephen Levinson, of Leverage Entertainment; and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.  John Hlavin wrote the pilot and will also executive produce, and Simon Cellan Jones directed the pilot.
