Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire) is in talks to join Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained and Ric Roman Waugh's Snitch.  Williams was championed by the online community to play the eponymous slave-turned-bounty-hunter in Django Unchained, but the part ended up going to Jamie Foxx after Will Smith passed on the role.  However, Deadline reports that Williams is in talks to play a supporting role, most likely the muscle for plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).  Williams' reps are trying work out a deal with HBO so Williams can balance Django with his shooting schedule for the third season Boardwalk Empire. Sacha Baron Cohen Is Last Major Casting For Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained

12 November 2011 1:38 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

In the final piece of the Django Unchained casting puzzle, Quentin Tarantino has secured Sacha Baron Cohen to play a small but significant role in his new black slavery/Spaghetti Western revenge film.

The versatile Brit is playing Scott Harmony, the as written overweight and shy 24 year old son of a rich daddy who buys him the slave Broomhilda in a bid to cure his confidence issues. Obviously Cohen is anything but overweight and he turned 40 this year so they’ll be a few tweaks from the screenplay and I’m sure the two eccentrics Cohen & Tarantino will have fun together crafting this character. His screen time will be minimal but as written it’s my favourite scene in the whole film (it revolves around a card game with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Calvin Candie) and Tarantino knows the part is a good one and has been searching for a memorable face to play it. »

Kerry Washington is Broomhilda in ‘Django Unchained’

26 October 2011 10:30 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

[1] And there you have it, folks. For the past several months we've watched as Quentin Tarantino filled seemingly every single role in his Django Unchained except the key character of Django's wife Broomhilda -- but the part remains empty no more. Kerry Washington has landed the female lead in the "Southern-fried spaghetti Western," in which she'll star opposite Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, and many others. More details after the jump. The character of Broomhilda is integral to the film, as it's her horrible suffering that indirectly sets the rest of the plot in motion. The story sees Django (Foxx) teaming up with German dentist-turned-bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Waltz) to free Broomhilda from evil plantation owner Calvin Candie (DiCaprio). Washington's casting doesn't come as a huge surprise, as she's been rumored for months; Deadline [2] writes that Tarantino had her in mind since the beginning. However, Tarantino also flirted »

Kerry Washington to Play Female Lead in Django Unchained

26 October 2011 9:08 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Quentin Tarantino's upcoming film Django Unchained is his spin on the spaghetti western, or as he's calling it, "A Southern" due to its setting.  The movie focuses on escaped slave Django (Jamie Foxx) and his quest to free his wife Broomhilda from cruel slave owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).  Deadline is now reporting that the wife will be played by the talented Kerry Washington (The Last King of Scotland) .  She's another addition to an impressive cast, which also features Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, M.C. Gainey, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, Tom Savini, and possibly Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  Due to the film's setting, most of these actors are playing incredibly ugly characters.   The script features three men raping and branding Broomhilda and forced brawls between slaves. While Broomhilda may seem like a damsel in serious distress, Tarantino is known for writing strong female characters, so »

Joseph Gordon-Levitt May Get ‘Unchained’ With ‘Inception’ Co-Star Leonardo DiCaprio

21 October 2011 10:52 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

With every new Joseph Gordon-Levitt casting announcement it seems the young actor’s career is getting exponentially better. After the excellent 50/50 in theaters now, he’ll appear in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises next summer, with Rian Johnson‘s sci-fi flick Looper and Steven Spielberg‘s Lincoln to follow. Variety has now announced his involvement in a film I’m looking forward to more than the rest.

Gordon-Levitt is now in talks to join his Inception co-star Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino’s western Django Unchained. There was talk of promoting his cycling thriller Premium Rush getting in the way of shooting, but that film has just been moved to August 24th, 2012, so it is wide open for Levitt to take the unknown role.

I’ve read the Django script and can’t tell where he fits in, unless it is a supporting part. Knowing Tarantino, it could be something small but vital, »

The movie centers on a slave, played by Jamie Foxx, who teams up with a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to retrieve his wife from a nasty plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). Other cast members include Samuel L. Jackson, Gerald McRaney, Kurt Russell, and Don Johnson.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt May Join Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’

21 October 2011 10:39 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The latest actor to flirt with Quentin Tarantino and his new anti-slavery 'Southern,' Django Unchained, is Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The actor reportedly wants to do the film, and is ready to take a role pending the resolution of some scheduling issues. One of those scheduling issues would have been press commitments for Premium Rush, but that movie was just pushed back to August, so that's one hurdle gone. Hit the break for some speculation on his role. Variety [1] gives up that info but doesn't have any details on what role he might play. There are a couple open roles at this point, but I hope Jgl ends up playing a young man named Scotty Harmony. The character is described as a meek little 'fatboy' in the script, but I think Levitt could do well by the character, even taking his physical difference into account. Scotty is the character to whom »
