Django Unchained Trailer to Debut with Prometheus

25 May 2012 5:59 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Quentin Tarantino was in Cannes this past week to show off a sizzle reel from his upcoming Western Django Unchained. Those lucky enough to have seen it have done nothing but praise it. Most of us, though, still have to wait a while before getting a glimpse of this action yarn starring Jamie Foxx as a former slave trying to retrieve his wife from a ruthless plantation owner.

Apparently, if we are to believe rumors, the wait to see footage from Django Unchained isn't going to be as long as we initially thought. Word around the internet this late Friday afternoon, heading into Memorial Day Weekend is, we will be getting the first trailer on June 8th.

According to various inside sources, the trailer will be debuting in front of 20th Century Fox's Prometheus. There is no connection between the two films, other than that Prometheus is rated R, and »

Sacha Baron Cohen and Kurt Russell Latest to Depart Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained

13 May 2012 9:32 AM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Sacha Baron Cohen and Kurt Russell are the latest casualties from Quentin Tarantino's western Django Unchained, joining previously departed Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Costner.

Cohen's schedule is currently swamped with press rounds for the upcoming release of The Dictator, and felt he didn't have the time to give to Tarantino for his role. The extent of that role is unknown; however, Cohen did tell Howard Stern it wasn't much more than a cameo. Whether Tarantino will re-cast the role or write it out is currently unknown.

Russell had stepped in for Costner after the latter dropped out of the Ace Woody role, the right-hand man of villain slave and plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) who is holding former slave Django's (Jamie Foxx) wife as a slave. Rumors from the IMDb message boards suggest Russell wasn't happy with the lack of "western" in the film and left the set »

Django Unchained Loses Kurt Russell and Sacha Baron Cohen

10 May 2012 9:44 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Django Unchained is currently in production, aiming for a Christmas 2012 release date, but the film hit a snag this past week, as director Quentin Tarantino has lost both Kurt Russell and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Sacha Baron Cohen announced his departure on Howard Stern, where the comedian made a rare interview appearance out of character. He was set to take on the small but important role of Scotty, a weak man whose father purchases a female slave for him. That slave is Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), Django's (Jamie Foxx) wife, whom he spends the entire movie trying to save. Cohen had to bail on the role because of his promotional schedule for The Dictator.

No reason was given for Kurt Russell's sudden departure. He was set to play Ace Woody, a sadistic cohort of Leonardo DiCaprio's Calvin Candy, who trains slaves to fight each other to the death. There are »

Kurt Russell & Sacha Baron Cohen Exit Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained

10 May 2012 2:10 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Kurt Russell and Sacha Baron Cohen have dropped out of starring in Quentin Tarantino’s new movie “Django Unchained”.

Russell had the bigger part of the two, playing the role of ruthless henchman Ace Woody, a down right bastard who trains slaves to fight each other for the amusement of white men. The role would have been Russell’s first on screen since he appeared as ‘Stuntman Mike’ in Tarantino’s Grindhouse picture “Death Proof” five years ago. Russell actually replaced the originally cast Kevin Costner in the forthcoming western, who had scheduling issues with the Pa Kent role in “Man of Steel” and was probably uncertain of how his housewives favourite image might be effected in playing such a baddie.

As for why Russell dropped out? His camp ain’t saying. Variety broke the news last night.

Meanwhile Sacha Baron Cohen has also revealed that he won’t appear in the movie either. »

Kurt Russell and Sacha Baron Cohen Exit Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained [Updated]

9 May 2012 8:42 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Director Quentin Tarantino must have written a doozie of a role for a certain Django Unchained character; not only has Kevin Costner left the picture, but now Kurt Russell has exited as well.  Both veterans were slated to play the role of Ace Woody, a villainous character who trains slaves to fight each other for public amusement.  Granted, the role isn't feel-good like Man of Steel's Pa Kent or Miracle's Herb Brooks, but it's a Tarantino flick; no one gets out unscathed.  Costner had previously cited scheduling difficulties for his departure from Django Unchained, but Russell's camp has yet to provide a reason.  Slightly concerning is the fact that with a December 25th release date, there hasn't been a replacement announced just yet.  Sacha Baron Cohen also let slip that his planned cameo won't happen due to a scheduling conflict.  The rest of the Django Unchained cast, however, »

Kurt Russell and Sacha Baron Cohen Both Drop Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’

9 May 2012 7:14 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Despite my unbridled anticipation for Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained, one has to admit it’s been an up-and-down rollercoaster of casting since the first inklings, when Will Smith was looking at the lead role. Kevin Costner departed before production, and then Joseph Gordon-Levitt recently exited due to scheduling issues and now we’ve got two more actors we won’t see on the big screen.

First up, Sacha Baron Cohen announced on Howard Stern‘s show that he won’t be able to make his cameo work due to his commitment to The Dictator press tour. Following that, Variety has confirmed some rumblings that Kurt Russell is gone from the film, but why?

Someone on the IMDb forums, with a source working on set, has a possible answer and while it isn’t confirmed it gives us a hint of some problems on set. Reportedly Russell was “unhappy with »

Django Unchained - First Official Look at Tarantino's New Movie

26 April 2012 9:00 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Here's our first official look at Quentin Tarantino's new film Django Unchained, which he's described as being a spaghetti southern. The images give us a look at the film's two heroes Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz, and Leonardo DiCaprio as the evil villain plantation owner named Calvin Candie, "who likes to make his toughest slaves fight to the death in gladiatorial combat." Everyone looks great in their roles! DiCaprio looks like an evil son-of-a-bitch. Foxx had this to say  in a interview with EW,

There’s a beautiful way [Tarantino] found for the characters to talk to each other. It’s mindblowing. You’ve never heard it this way. You’ve seen movies deal with slavery — or westerns that never dealt with slavery – do it the safe way. This way is like … wow.

I have no doubt Tarantino is going to give us a film that is once again going to entertainingly shock us. »

Samuel L. Jackson Address the Issue of Slavery in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained

16 April 2012 4:56 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

While Samuel L. Jackson's role in the upcoming superhero epic The Avengers certainly won't hurt his status as "highest grossing actor ever," that doesn't mean the veteran will neglect his acting roots.  Jackson once again teams with  director Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained later this year, a movie which draws inspiration from some of the ugliest events in American history.  While we've brought you some good looking images of Christoph Waltz in character and of the first teaser poster, the plot itself is a bit on the ugly side. It revolves around Django, a freed slave (Jamie Foxx) and Dr. King Schultz, a German-born bounty hunter (Waltz) who are out to rescue Django's wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington).  Jackson plays a "house slave" of plantation owner, Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).   The outstanding cast also includes Kurt Russell, Garrett Dillahunt, Walton Goggins, RZA, M.C.
