Game of Thrones Season Five – Episode 3 Review

28 April 2015 8:15 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Oliver Davis reviews the third episode of Game of Thrones Season Five….

High Sparrow.

Directed by Mark Mylod.

Written by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss.

Sansa

Dying your hair black usually signals an impending evil turn. Siding with power-hungry, vertically challenged brothel owners usually confirms it. But, oddly, Sansa  (Sophie Turner) remains a Stark – more willing to bend the concept of duty than her bastard brother, but still, a Stark nonetheless.

In High Sparrow, Little Finger (Aiden Gillen) promises her to Westeros’ hottest bachelor/post-Joffrey psychopath, Ramsey Bolton (né Snow; Iwan Rheon). It’s a testament to Rheon’s performance how charming Ramsey comes across when not flaying the flesh from people’s fingers. Looking into those cool, blue eyes, disarmed by his smile you think, ‘aww, he’s gonna make her so happy.’ Then you remember when he chopped off Theon Greyjoy/Reek’s (Alfie Allen) penis. He »

‘Game of Thrones’ Postmortem: Lena Headey Talks Cersei and the High Sparrow

26 April 2015 10:04 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Spoiler warning: Do not read on unless you’ve seen “Game of Thrones” episode 503, titled “High Sparrow.”

The many disparate factions of Westeros continued to collide in unexpected ways in the third episode of “Game of Thrones” season five, with Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) being unexpectedly snatched up by the banished Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) in a Volantis brothel, and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) returning home to Winterfell to grudgingly marry the sadistic Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) — in what we hope is part of a long con to incite a Northen uprising and murder the entire Bolton clan as payback for their betrayal of the Starks at the Red Wedding. Even further north, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) declined Stannis Baratheon’s (‎Stephen Dillane) tempting offer to make him Jon Stark and help him reclaim Winterfell from the Boltons, and cemented his position as Lord Commander of the Night’s »

'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Viewing Party Banned by HBO

20 April 2015 10:00 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The hit HBO series Game of Thrones continued its Season 5 run last night with "The House of Black and White" (clickHere for our full recap). Patrons of a Brooklyn bar called Videology didn't get to watch the episode there last night, after the establishment was sent a cease and desist letter from HBO, asking them to stop its weekly viewing parties. Here's what an HBO representative had to say in a statement to the New York Daily News.

"As a pay subscription service, HBO should not be made available in public establishments. When it does happen, it is of particular concern when there is an attempt to profit off the programming. We have taken such actions for well over a decade."

Wendy Chamberlain, co-owner of the bar, said Videology is a paid HBO subscriber, and that they screened every Season 4 episode last year without incident. There are also several other »

'Game of Thrones' Episode 5.02 Recap & Preview of Next Week

19 April 2015 11:35 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

After four full seasons, Game of Thrones fans have learned to expect the unexpected on a show where you never know which character will meet his or her demise. Possibly the most unexpected part of last week's Season 5 premiere, "The Wars to Come" (clickHere to read my full review) is that it was a bit more underwhelming than we're used to, although it was still a damn fine premiere. I have a sneaking suspicion that this week's episode, "The House of Black and White", may have originally been envisioned and written as the Season 5 premiere, and it may have been moved to this season's second episode perhaps to temper rabid fan expectations. If that is the case, it certainly worked, since the premiere made us drop our guard, so to speak, only to be thrilled and blown away by this phenomenal second episode. Of course, there will be plenty of »

'Game of Thrones' Season 5, Episode 2 Trailer

13 April 2015 9:47 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Following last night's Season 5 premiere, "The Wars to Come", HBO has released a trailer for next week's all-new episode of Game of Thrones titled "The House of Black and White". The footage reveals that Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), who left Westeros and set sail for Braavos on the other side of the Narrow Sea, finally makes it to her destination. Arya has been searching for Jaquen H'gar, and it seems she may be finally reunited with him in this episode.

The trailer also teases that Cersei (Lena Headey) will burn cities to the ground if 'they' touch her daughter. The Lannisters have received an ominous message from, most likely, the Martell's, who appear to be threatening the life of Cersei's daughter Myrcella, who has been shipped off to marry a prince in Dorne. Their arrangement has some new complications, though it isn't confirmed that it is in fact the Martell's »

'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Clip: Arya Arrives at House of Black & White

25 March 2015 9:42 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Back in December, HBO released a series of brief and vague clips from Season 5 of Game of Thrones, one of which appeared to show the door of The House of Black and White in Braavos. Last night, series star Maisie Williams appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she unveiled a new clip that showed Arya finally making it to The House of Black and White. At the end of Season 4, Arya set sail for Braavos, across the Narrow Sea, and this clip shows that her plan may have been in vain all along. Here's what she had to say on Jimmy Kimmel Live! about this scene.

"The new season for Arya is totally different than what we've seen before. She's in a completely new location, and you see the doors were black and white, and anyone who's read the books knows that's a really exciting place for her to be. »

'Game of Thrones' IMAX Screenings Score Big at the Box Office

2 February 2015 5:18 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

While American Sniper topped the box office charts for a third straight week in a row, this weekend also marked the historic IMAX screenings of two Game of Thrones episodes. Deadline reports that the Warner Bros./IMAX presentation took in a healthy $1.5 million from just 205 screens, bringing in a per-screen average of $7,323. While these figures are not record-breaking numbers by any means, it does show that die-hard fans are willing to pay to see a show like Game of Thrones in large-format IMAX theaters. Here's what Warner Bros. distribution executive vice president Jeff Goldstein had to say in a statement.

"This is the first time that HBO has taken one of their series episodes and released it in IMAX. We see this as a future, and not just with HBO. There is a business here and an interest from a rabid fan base."
