It was only May of last year when Shane Bitney Crone posted a YouTube video called “It Could Happen To You,” a very sad and moving 10-minute clip about his love Tom Bridegroom, who died after falling from a roof while taking pictures with friends. Bridegroom’s family never accepted their son’s gayness and they forbade Crone from attending his funeral, threatening him with violence if he tried.
Now Crone’s harrowing story has moved off of YouTube and into the documentary circuit. Bridegroom (which is out on DVD Nov. 19 and available on Netflix Instant now) aired on Own in early November and inspired rave reviews from Own heroine Oprah Winfrey and scores of celebrity admirers, including President Bill Clinton.

Unfortunately this is a sad sad article for me to write. However I’m afraid my pessimism is validated.
Wrestling has more than plateaued. If you were as lucky as I was, then you at least had the chance to be a part of wrestling’s zenith in the late 90′s early 2000′s. That however, was a different time, with a different audience. People grow up, they move on. They adapt.
Wrestling’s adapted too, in the worst way possible. Especially for us ‘marks’ – wrestling’s insiders.
Why do those of us in our 20′s and 30′s still watch wrestling? It’s a legitimate question with a legitimate answer. We Want To Believe. We want to believe that we can rekindle what once was. We want to get goosebumps and pop when Our guy or girl hits center stage. We want to be surprised, we want ‘holy s**t’ moments. »

Tna has been the hot topic for a few weeks now with the rumour mill working on overdrive. During this period, everything was addressed from Hogan coming back to Tna after leaving a week earlier, Tna being bought and then more wild speculation after a disappointing live attention at Tna’s Bound For Glory show.
However, there is now a reason to be excited and one that may allow Tna to turn a corner. Tna will tape two PPV in the UK!
Earlier tonight, Tna President Dixie Carter (@TNADixie) posted via Twitter:
“Delighted to announce Tna will hold our 1st international PPVs on our UK Tour – All 4 UK events recorded for TV! http://t.co/QollKnTuWv “
Tna.com has posted a breakdown of these shows. The first PPV will be Tna One Night Only: British Empire Cup will take place at the Manchester Phones 4u Arena on Friday January 31st. »

Cherry was concerned that the series, a Beverly Hills "upstairs, downstairs" tale, might be too similar to Julian Fellowes' creation. He need not have worried, given that the opening three minutes of the drama feature accusations of rape and adultery, and a murder, with a body found floating the wrong way up in a swimming pool.
Downton Abbey – despite recent controversy – it is not: Devious Maids unfolds in a universe little different from that of Desperate Housewives. Viewers are invited, in its creator's words, to enjoy "a lovely trip through Marc Cherry land".

As of right now, Tna is in a period of disarray. Wrestlers, including big time stars like Rob Van Dam and Mr Anderson, are going by the wayside, and plans of introducing Bellator’s Mma stars to the program backfired massively when Bellator took them off the show.
And now, more and more Tna wrestlers are being linked with a jump to the big dogs in the yard. Hulk Hogan is just one of many rumoured to be signing for the WWE in the near future. One in particular has been speculated about ever since details of his expiring contract broke on the internet…Aj Styles.
Aj Styles, as far as I’m concerned, is Mr. Tna. Since day one, he’s been with the company and his career has been like a massive yoyo. Constantly, Aj has been in and out of the main event picture at the company in the Asylum, »

Professional wrestler and Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Texas Friday (August 2), marking his fourth booze-related arrest in the last six years, TMZ reports. Following the arrest, Angle, who works for Tna Wrestling, announced on Twitter that he will be heading to rehab to deal with the problem.
"I am blessed to have the support of my family, my friends and my company. In light of recent events I will immediately be entering a rehabilitation center," he writes. Dixie Carter, president of Tna, also addressed the situation on Twitter, adding, "The Tna Family is very supportive of the steps @RealKurtAngle is taking in his recovery."
Previously Angle was arrested in 2007 for DUI, and twice in 2011. Once for Dwi and the other time for being drunk behind the wheel of a parked car. He won the gold medal in heavyweight freestyle wrestling at the 1996 Summer Olympics. »
Following the mega successful 2013 tour, Tna President Dixie Carter has announced on Twitter that wrestling fans in the UK and Ireland can expect another big returning tour next year.
“Greetings from Ireland! Happy to announce Tna will return to Dublin National Stadium on Wed Jan. 29. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am!”
Carter then confirmed that The Tna “Maximum Impact VI” Tour will come to Dublin’s National Stadium on Wednesday January 29. Carter told fans while revealing the news:
“I’m in Ireland at the moment, with my family, in the beautiful town of Waterford! It is such a gorgeous country full of such amazing people…I’m happy to announce that Tna Impact Wrestling will return to the National Stadium on Wednesday January 29 so that all our Irish fans can experience Tna live.”
The announced Irish date will kick off the tour that will also be visiting Glasgow, »

It was confirmed yesterday by Tna President Dixie Carter that Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has joined Tna Wrestling. The former Ufc Light Heavyweight Champion has signed a multi-year deal that also confirms a partnership with Spike TV and Bellator Mma. Jackson joins fellow Bellator fighter King Mo as the latest addition to Tna’s roster. Speaking about the acquisition, Spike TV’s Kevin Kay said ‘Rampage is a proven ratings driver who brings incredible star power to both Bellator and Tna.’
On May 30th, Dixie Carter sent out a tweet stating that ‘the ink is drying on a Big free agent that will rock #ImpactLIVE on @SpikeTV.’ After rumours circulating on the internet that the free agent could be Dave Batista, John Morrison or even Bill Goldberg, we can now assume that the free agent that she spoke of was not from the pro-wrestling industry and was indeed Rampage Jackson, a »

Impact Wrestling has had its fair share of ups and downs throughout its 10 plus year inception. Granted you they’ve mostly been downs, but lately Impact hasn’t been That bad. The Slammiversary pay per view was actually pretty good but it got me thinking…
Tna still has a long way to go before they’ll be considered competition to the WWE but they can get there, maybe. A lot of things have to happen first but I think we can all agree that if Tna steps their game up it can only lead to good things for us as wrestling fans.
Wrestling peaked during the Monday Night Wars when WWE went head to head with WCW which only benefited us as fans. Do I think Tna could be the next WCW? No, but I do think they can be a factor and maybe even push WWE to put out a better product one day. »

Hulk Hogan is refusing to let his charred-up hand run wild on his wrestling plans -- TMZ has learned the Hulkster has Confirmed he'll appear at Tna wrestling's big pay-per-view event in Boston this weekend. It's kind of a shock ... considering Hogan's been undergoing daily medical procedures on his hand ever since he burned the holy hell out of it during a boating accident last weekend. But Tna president Dixie Carter tells us she talked »

One of the oldest debates for any wrestling fan is to go back and forth over who would have won if their favourite current Superstar went against the “best” from the past, or from a competing company. I know this was the case with me when I was younger and living during the Monday Night Wars. Everything from Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Hulk Hogan to Randy Savage and Cm Punk has been tossed out over the years. And then there was impossible The Rock vs. John Cena Match, a match to would never happen. And it did, twice.
With John Cena winning both the Royal Rumble and his “twice in a lifetime” match with The Rock at Wrestlemania this year, those who like the idea of a “dream match”, or matches that we as fans never thought possible, could be a common thing in the current WWE product are »

Tna Wrestling President Dixie Carter has told Digital Spy that she is open to the idea of a WWE/Tna crossover event, where the two rival organisations have their stars go head-to-head.
Carter, who has visited the UK to promote Tna's 2014 British tour, said that she enjoys the rivalry with WWE, arguing that it benefits both companies and - most importantly - the fans.
"I don't think [the WWE] shares my belief in this, but I believe that competition is 100% positively essential," she told Digital Spy.
"I think it's important for fans and for us. To have one company dominate, a) it's boring, and b) you are not being challenged enough. It's always better to have other options out there and I truly believe it makes both companies better."
When asked if she would ever be open to the idea of WWE and Tna stars appearing together in shows, she said: "I absolutely would do that. »
Hulk Hogan is more famous than Michael Jackson or Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Tna Wrestling President Dixie Carter has claimed. The grappling legend is a hero to many people for his achievements in the ring and on screen and his blonde handlebar moustache and trademark bandanna have made him one of the most recognisable faces across the globe. Dixie - who is The Hulkster's boss on TV show 'Impact Wrestling' - insists he is mobbed by people no matter where he goes and even the late King of Pop and the 'Fast and Furious 6' actor, who turned himself from superstar wrestler to Hollywood action man, can't match his fame. She exclusively told Bang Showbiz: 'He (Hulk) is bigger than »
Total Nonstop Action has been an up-and-coming wrestling company now, and within ten years of its existence, it has become the second best wrestling promotion in the world, just playing second fiddle to the biggest sports entertainment company in the world, World Wrestling Entertainment.
Jerry Jarrett and his brother Jeff started Tna, and it featured young stars from all over the world, as they performed breath-taking moves and won the love of the wrestling audience. Unfortunately, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff stepped in, and by molding Dixie Carter, they turned Tna into any normal wrestling company because he wanted ratings, which hasn’t happened yet. WWE, on the other side, is a wrestling promotion which has been running for fifty plus years, and has given us some solid action, even though there have been a few major blunders by the members of WWE Creative. Overall, fans consider WWE to be better than Impact, »

Reid Flair has tragically died aged just 25. He was the son of Ric Flair and his second wife Elizabeth. The cause of Reid’s death is currently unknown, though police have reported that he was found dead in a Charlotte hotel room.
Ric’s agent released a statement on behalf of the family:
“We are heartbroken to confirm that Ric’s son, Reid Fliehr, has passed away today March 29.

Uncertainty surrounds current Tna tag team champion Robert ‘Bobby’ Roode and his future with the company despite being scheduled to compete on tonight’s Lockdown PPV in a three team match.
Roode renewed his deal with Tna in March 2009 amidst rumours that he would be joining WWE. The deal tied him to Tna for 5 years which would suggest he’s still under contract until March 2014 however it is understood that his deal had an ‘option’ towards the end that allowed either side to end the agreement early. If Roode’s contact has such an option then it could now have come to an end.
Given Roode’s past loyalty to impact Wrestling and Dixie Carter it would be surprising if he were to leave without ‘doing the job’ and dropping the tag team titles but some are suggesting he’s a no show at the venue for the PPV which »

For the past 12 years World Wrestling Entertainment has been the sole driving force in televised professional wrestling. Say what you will about Tna’s iMPACT Wrestling or the Ring of Honor wrestling promotion, but we can all agree they pale in comparison to the McMahon juggernaut that is the WWE.
So as we approach the month of March in this year of 2013, we come upon the 12th anniversary of Vince McMahon’s acquisition of both the WCW brand, and followed shortly thereafter by his additional purchase of Paul Heyman’s Ecw.
We here at What Culture take a brief look back and we ask: Should both the WCW and Ecw brands finally return?

The leaders of the International Olympic Committee has announced its intentions to drop the sport of wrestling from the Olympic programme. In short this means that wrestling – which is as old as the Olympic Games themselves – will cease to take place from the 2020 Games onwards.
The decision was made to remove wrestling from the 25 core sports and retain the modern pentathlon in its place. Ioc spokesman Mark Adams told USA Today:
“This is a process of renewing and renovating the program for the Olympics. In the view of the executive board, this was the best program for the Olympic Games in 2020. It’s not a case of what’s wrong with wrestling, it is what’s right with the 25 core sports.”
The news is likely to have a detrimental effect on companies like the WWE as it has often relied on amateur wrestling and the Olympics to scout future talents. »

Another Thursday, another episode of Impact Wrestling passes us by, and tonight had all the makings of an excellent outing for the second largest wrestling organisation. Both the X-Division Championship and the World Tag Team Championships would be defended, there would be a tag team tables match featuring Bully Ray and Sting against members of Aces & Eights, and hopefully we will be treated to some explanations as to why Garrett Bischoff and Wes Brisco turned on their mentor Kurt Angle to join the nefarious biker gang.
Once again, the Impact Zone was emanating from Manchester in the United Kingdom, so expect some raucous crowd interaction and a great deal of low-key racism from the heel superstars tonight. The UK love it when either Tna or WWE come to their neck of the woods, and they will certainly try and make the most of the extended stay of the Impact wrestlers on their shores. »
