Jeph Loeb on why Hulu was the right fit for Marvel’s Runaways

9 October 2017 5:12 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Marvel has been busy the past several years spreading out across the television landscape. What started on ABC with shows like Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. eventually led to a steady influx of properties adapted for Netflix in the form of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and the upcoming Punisher series. Now, the Marvel Universe is making its debut on the Hulu streaming service with Marvel’s Runaways.

So why Hulu? Recently, comic legend Jeph Loeb spoke at New York Comic Con 2017 (via Screenrant) about why Hulu was the right home for Runaways:

“What we do with every show is we look at where the best place is. We absolutely had a lot on our plate at Netflix, but wasn’t the reason for it. We were very excited about the possibility of joining a network that was young and growing in the same way »

Marvel And Hulu Show Off Runaways With New Photos

28 September 2017 3:40 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Man, it really sucks being a teenager. You’ve got to worry about curfews, teachers on your case about grades, being popular in school, getting that first boy/girlfriend, trying to keep your telepathic dinosaur buddy out of trouble, finding out your parents are secretly supervillains… Actually, maybe only the Runaways only have to worry about those last two.

Written by comic book star Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man and Saga), the award-winning Runaways follows a gang of teenagers who first discover that their parents are part of a superhero cabal called The Pride and then that they’ve inherited their superpowers (and a dinosaur). Shocked by what the adults have been up to they, well, run away.

Debuting in 2003, the comic was an instant hit and with Marvel very much in vogue, it was really a question of when, not if we’d see a live-action adaptation. »

Runaways co-creator Brian K. Vaughan shares his thoughts on the upcoming TV adaptation

1 June 2017 5:58 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Brian K. Vaughan, co-creator of Marvel’s The Runaways, has seen the pilot episode for the upcoming television adaptation, and has recently spoke to Cbr.com to give his thoughts on the pilot, and the project in general:

“I just did a little consulting early in the process, but I think the Runaways found the ideal ‘foster parents’ in Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. They took a weird comic set in the Marvel Universe of 2002 and lovingly adapted it into a stylish drama that feels like contemporary Los Angeles. Love the cast, crew and especially the writers they assembled. And the pilot looks like an Adrian Alphona comic! I can’t wait to watch this first season unfold.”

It is definitely a sigh of relief when the creator of any property gives an adaptation his/her blessing. Streaming proves once again to be the place for niche television. In a »

Hulu’s upcoming adaptation of “The Handmaid’s Tale” has some real-life supporters.

In an eerie show of defiance, women wore “The Handmaid’s Tale”-inspired red robes and white bonnets to the Texas Senate on Monday, reports The Huffington Post. On the docket that day were several abortion-related bills that could restrict women’s reproductive rights.

Some of the legislation included a ban on second-trimester abortions and a bill that would would allow doctors to not get sued for malpractice if they didn’t disclose a fetal abnormality. Women dressed as Handmaids sat in the Texas Senate gallery, but were later ejected when they attempted to display protest signs, which is a violation of the chamber’s rules.
