Ben Barnes joins The Punisher as a series regular

13 September 2016 7:23 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It looks like casting is underway on Netflix’s latest Marvel project, with TV Line reporting that Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian) has signed on to appear alongside Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle as a series regular in The Punisher.

Although character details are being kept under wraps, it is rumoured that Barnes will be playing the villain Bobby Saint, the son of mob boss Howard Saint. Both characters were created for the 2004 movie starring Thomas Jane, with James Carpinello playing Bobby and John Travolta as Howard.

It would surely be a huge surprise if Marvel used a character created for a movie over the many possible comic book villains at their disposal, so I’d suggest taking that rumour with a pinch of salt…

Ben Barnes joins the cast of Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’

12 September 2016 4:46 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

The Chronicles of Narnia and upcoming Westworld star Ben Barnes has joined the cast of Netflix and Marvel’s The Punisher, the planned TV series with Jon Bernthal in the lead as Frank Castle/ Punisher.

TVLine report the news of Barnes’ casting, though there are no specifics as to whom he will play. The rumour mill has already kicked into gear though, and the character he could play is ‘the corrupt crime prodigy’ Bobby Saint, a role played by James Carpinello in the 2004 film. The character was created for the motion picture and was not in the original comics.

Bernthal appeared as The Punisher in the last season of Daredevil, and will also be in the upcoming mini-series The Defenders, which is said to be hitting before a Punisher series.

More as it comes our way.

Marvel's The Punisher: Ben Barnes Joins The Netflix Series In Villain Role

12 September 2016 3:30 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Marvel's Netflix series certainly have a lot going for them. While it'd be easy for the shows to be overly-dark, bland, and violent for the sake of violence, there is a real heart to each and every one of them. The characters in these shows aren't just characters. They're not just plot devices. They're not chess pieces on a board moved around in order to lead to the next big tentpole character. No, they've living, breathing entities. This is the case for Daredevil, and this is the case for Jessica Jones.

While Season 2 of Daredevil had a lot of strong points to it, one of the big standouts was Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher.  This anti-hero had been tackled on three different occasions up until that point -- all of them unsuccessfully. While he was a favorite among fans, for one reason or another, no one could seem to get him right. »

Ben Barnes Reportedly On Board For Marvel’s The Punisher Spinoff, But Who Is He Playing?

12 September 2016 2:07 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

TV Line is reporting that Chronicles of Narnia and Westworld alum Ben Barnes has closed a deal to board The Punisher, Marvel and Netflix’s upcoming spinoff that centers on one Frank Castle.

Little is known about the casting coup, and the fact that Marvel is yet to announce anything through its official channels at the time of writing means that you shouldn’t consider this a done deal just yet. If TV Line is indeed barking up the right tree, though, Barnes will star opposite Jon Bernthal’s unhinged vigilante as a series regular, possibly assuming the role of big bad Bobby Saint. First introduced via the 2004 feature film, at a time when James Carpinello nabbed villain duties, Saint is something of a left-field choice going into The Punisher offshoot series, but until we catch wind of more information, let the speculation commence.

According To Gotham Season 3 Premiere Synopsis, It’s “Better To Reign In Hell”

1 September 2016 2:28 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

With less than three weeks to go until Gotham begins its third season, vital details continue to pour in. The latest comes in the form of the premiere episode’s synopsis that also divulges its foreboding title: “Mad City: Better to Reign in Hell…”

Aside from sharing that name with a great song by Cradle of Filth, fans of classic literature will recognize it from John Milton’s Paradise Lost, with the full quote being, “Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven.” Seeing as how villains will continue to run roughshod over the city until a certain Caped Crusader lays claim to the night, that title seems consistent with recent news regarding the upcoming season’s tone.

Something interesting to note in the synopsis is the absence of Maggie Geha as the aged up Poison Ivy. Clare Foley is the only one listed to be playing that character, »

Review: Person of Interest the Complete Fifth Season

20 July 2016 12:00 PM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

It used to be we worried about the threat of artificial intelligence in movies like Colossus: The Forbin Project or “The Ultimate Computer” episode of Star Trek. Today, though, artificial intelligence is here thanks to Siri and Cortanna and their cousins. We talk to our phones and they answer back and these bots are growing increasingly sophisticated. As a result, what seemed ahead of its time a mere give years ago is looking increasingly prescient.

CBS’ Person of Interest arrived on September 22, 2011 and came with a fine pedigree having been created by Jonathan Nolan with J.J. Abrams on board as Executive Producer. It starred Michael Emerson, hot off Lost, Jim Caviezel, a pre-Empire Taraji P. Henson, and Kevin Chapman. It received near universal acclaim »

TV: Gotham - Season 3 has Cast Mad Hatter

18 July 2016 10:49 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Gotham - Season 3 has announced that Benedict Samuel (The Walking Dead) will be playing Jervis Tetch aka Mad Hatter.  Fox has stated that Tetch will be portrayed as an individual new to Gotham who is searching for his sister, Alice, who disappeared in the city years prior.  The description goes on to describe Tetch as a hypnotist who is on the verge of madness.

These descriptions seem to pay some homage to the comics, while still implementing new aspects of the character's mythos.  In the comics, The Mad Hatter, first appearing in 1948, is a scientist who invents devices to influence, and manipulate, the minds of his victims. The character was created to reflect "The Hatter" from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

This news follows other new additions to the cast including Maggie Geha as Poison Ivy, James Carpinello as Mario Falcone, and Jamie Chung as Valerie Vale.  Stay tuned »
