Well, folks, it looks like the "Deadpool" movie is too hot for China, which is a fact that will make some hardcore Deadpool fans rejoice. This time last year, it seemed unbelievable that we'd get an R-rated "Deadpool," and now not only do we have that, but it's turning out to be everything fans hoped it would be--including news that the film is so over-the-top that it's being banned.
THR is now reporting that "Deadpool" has been denied release in China due to its violence, nudity, and graphic nature. According to the article, China is usually able to work with studios to create cleaned-up version of R-rated flicks, but that the offensive material is so interwoven into the DNA of the film, that it's impossible to create a clean cut without creating all kinds of plot problems.
"China has no ratings system, so the country's media regulator, the State Administration of Press,...

Alright, folks. It’s time to put any and all fears to rest in regards to Deadpool. It looks like Fox did it. They took the beloved comic book character, gave him his own R-rated outing and absolutely knocked it out of the freaking park. By all accounts, the Ryan Reynolds-led flick is a complete success, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
Though the film doesn’t hit theatres until February 12th, special screenings were held for fans in NYC and La today, and the reactions pouring out on Twitter are tremendously positive. Everyone seems to have fallen in love with it, with some people saying that Deadpool could be Marvel’s best movie yet.

Editor's Note About This Editorial: This is a must read discussion by longtime friend of the site Patrick Campbell (@pj_campbell). It's time to discuss an issue that has been getting worse and worse. Everything mentioned in this editorial is something that I've observed as well, but I've had trouble figuring out how to voice my concerns without sounding too meddlesome. It's hard to speak out about a community when you're a part of that community, but thankfully others have started expressing their honest feelings. What began as a couple of paragraphs on Facebook has turned into a full-fledged editorial. It needed to be said. Something's rotten in the state of movie fandom, and it's something that has become increasingly clear over the past few weeks. In the last three years that I've been blogging about film, writing movie reviews, and interacting with thousands of film buffs across the internet on various forums and websites,...

Go To Blazes
Stars: Dave King, Robert Morley, Daniel Massey, Maggie Smith | Written by Patrick Campbell, Vivienne Knight | Directed by Michael Truman
First released in 1962, Go to Blazes is a frothy British comedy in the classic mould. The film follows the escapades of a trio of hapless criminals. After their getaway from a jewellery shop robbery is foiled by a traffic jam caused by a fire engine, the gang decide to procure a fire engine of their own as the perfect getaway vehicle. With zany results!
For some reason it feels more difficult to criticise old movies than it does modern ones. I think there’s an innate instinct to revere that which has gone before, at least in terms of cinema. Of course, the language and culture of cinema today is vastly different from the early sixties, which makes it tricky, for me at least, to offer a fair critique.

Satire's limits will always be expanding to tackle new subjects – no matter how wicked or tragic
Like Louis XVI's decadent court at Versailles, we live in an age of ridicule. Fifty years ago, comedy of the public or professional kind was almost never fashioned out of real events or real people – past and present, the living and the dead. That other age is now amazing to recollect. Could Britain ever have lived so politely and solemnly, and with such regard for the social order and hurt to others? One night dad and I were listening to the Goons on a radio that needed time to warm up and carried the names Athlone, Home Service and Light Programme on the dial. The team of Sellers, Milligan and Secombe was at the height of its power as the cutting-edge of broadcast humour. Favourite catchphrases became sallies in the school playground. Weedy little voice (Bluebottle): "Oh,...
