'Black-ish' Spin-Off With Star Yara Shahidi In the Works

Get ready for even more Black-ish.

ABC is looking to create a spin-off of their hit sitcom, with one lucky member of the Johnson family getting their own show, Et can confirm.

Exclusive: Tracee Ellis Ross Gushed About Her First Golden Globe Nomination

The new series would be led by Zara Shahidi, who plays the eldest, college-bound Johnson daughter, Zoey. Black-ish creator and executive producer Kenya Barris is working with the network on the proposed sitcom.

In a statement to Et, ABC confirmed that the college-set show is "in very early stages." In fact, the series idea is so new that there are no deals in place, nor is there a script, as Deadline, the first to report the news, noted.

If the spin-off gets greenlit, it will be the second pilot Barris has in the works with ABC. He's also working on a new comedy, Libby & Malcolm, starring Felicity Huffman and Courtney B. Vance. It will also »

Black-ish Spinoff Eyed at ABC

ABC is looking to expand its black-ish franchise via a spinoff centered on eldest daughter Zoey, played by Yara Shahidi, Deadline reports.

The offshoot, which is being shepherded by black-ish creator Kenya Barris, would follow Zoey as she goes off to college next season. Viewers will likely get a first look at the potential series when it airs as a backdoor pilot episode of black-ish this spring.

The Goldbergs” fans may soon get to see what family matriarch Beverly Goldberg looks like a decade later.

Meeting with reporters Tuesday at the Television Critics Association press tour for his new ABC sitcom “Imaginary Mary,” series creator Adam F. Goldberg also shared a few details from the ’90s-set “Goldbergs” spin-off now in the works.

Goldberg said he and writer Marc Firek are set to turn the script in to ABC tomorrow, and that the pilot includes at least one scene with “Goldbergs” star Wendi McLendon-Covey as Bev.
