Catherine Tate reunites with David Tennant on Disney’s DuckTales

Disney has announced that Doctor Who alum Catherine Tate reunites with her former co-star David Tennant (voice of Scrooge McDuck) when she joins the cast of DuckTales as iconic villain Magica De Spell, Scrooge McDuck’s oldest, bitterest enemy in the new Disney Channel series DuckTales.

Magica De Spell made her first appearance in the 1961 comic book Uncle Scrooge #36. Obsessed with exacting her cruel (and needlessly elaborate) revenge, the malevolent Sorceress of the Shadows plans to infiltrate Scrooge’s family with the help of her niece Lena, voiced by Kimiko Glenn (Orange Is the New Black).

Disney pegs Numan Acar for villainous role in Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin

The cast of Guy Ritchie’s live-action Aladdin film continues to take shape, as Deadline reports that Homeland’s Numan Acar has joined the project. The actor will take on the role of Hakim, who the outlet describes as “the head of the guards” and “right-hand man” to Marwan Kenzari’s villainous Jafar.

While Hakim isn’t one of the more well-known Aladdin characters, he did make appearances in the 1994 and 1996 direct-to-video Aladdin sequels, The Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Thieves, and the short-lived Aladdin TV show in 1994. Frank Welker, Jim Cummings and Corey Burton have all voiced the character in the past.

Acar’s co-stars include Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Naomi Scott (Princess Jasmine), Will Smith (Genie), Nasim Pedrad (Mara) and Jordan A. Nash (Barro).

In recent years, Acar’s been tackling higher-budget, more mainstream projects, including The Promise, The Great Wall and Prison Break. He

DuckTales Opening, Poster, & Premiere Dates Revealed!

For folks like me, DuckTales played a big part in your childhood. Between the comedy and mix of high adventure, it helped to scratch a very specific itch on TV shows that not a lot of animated series did back then. However, as great as iconic I found the series to be, perhaps what it’s best known for is its catchy opening theme. As someone who watched the show, catching that opening them was an integral part of the actual experience of watching the show (very much how the opening of an anime is an integral part of the show itself).

If for some reason, you don’t remember that opening (or if you've never seen it), take a look:

For as long as we’ve known that Disney Xd would be reviving DuckTales for a modern audience, we’ve been wondering how they’d handle the opening theme.

Review: Batman: The Brave and the Bold The Complete Third Season

  • Comicmix
Well, it’s about time. For the last twenty-five years or so, we’ve had one animated Batman series after another but to be honest only two are really good: Batman the Animated Series and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The latter has been slowly coming out on Blu-Ray with season one in 2013 and season two in 2015. This month, we’re getting the third and final season and the good news is that it is as entertaining as remembered.

After increasingly odd interpretations of Batman, Warner Animation decided to go retro and bring back the Batman of the 1960s, who was not afraid to operate in daylight and would partner with just about anyone in a mask as the need arose. Producer James Tucker saw to it that it honored the comic the series took its name from while modernizing it with contemporary characters and characterizations. The result was

First Look: Neil DeGrasse Tyson As a Cartoon on Disney’s ‘Future-Worm’
Neil deGrasse Tyson gets pretty animated when he starts talking about science. Now, he’s literally getting animated – on Disney Xd’s quirky new ‘toon “Future-Worm.”

Tyson – or “Ndt,” as he’s cheekily referred to on the show – plays a version of himself, America’s best-known astrophysicist. The “Cosmos” host recurs in several episodes of the series.

“Future-Worm” centers on 12-year-old Danny Douglas, who has invented a time machine (inside a lunch box) and befriends a hip, talking worm from the future. Together, they go on countless adventures. Tyson occasionally shows up to give Danny advice.

Ryan Quincy (“South Park”) created the series, which premieres August 1 on Disney Xd. Andy Milonakis, James Adomian, Jessica Dicicco, Melanie Lynskey, Corey Burton and Quincy provide voices.

Gotham season 2: Bd Wong to play Hugo Strange

Jurassic World and Mr Robot star Bd Wong will play Arkham overseer Hugo Strange in Gotham season 2...

Here's a canny piece of casting - Bd Wong has landed the role of Hugo Strange in Gotham. The Jurassic Park, Jurassic World and Mr Robot actor will portray the Arkham Asylum overseer later on in season 2 of Fox's Batman prequel show.

Hugo Strange is one of the oldest Batman villains - he pre-dated Catwoman and The Joker when he first appeared in 1940. Anyone who played Arkham City will likely remember Corey Burton's creepy vocal portrayal of the mad scientist. This being Gotham, though, we can expect Wong's version to pick up with Strange at a much earlier stage of his career than you may be used to seeing.

USA Today broke the news, as well as releasing this character description:

"He’s hired to help the city’s criminally insane,

Jake And The Neverland Pirates: Battle For The Book DVD Review

Jake and the Neverland Pirates: Battle for the Book is one of the more intriguing efforts from the children’s show. It’s a solid enough Disney vehicle in general, and one that the kids love, but the story here incorporates Wendy, John, and Michael in a new adventure that is not only a nice homage to the original story/film, but also plays with the animation in a way that is admittedly lost on the target audience, but is a lot of fun.

Hook learns about Wendy’s book of stories, from which she reads to her brothers about all of Hook’s failures, and he decides he had better steal it to keep the stories from spreading.

It turns out there’s something magical about the book of stories, and the general connection to Neverland, and if the book gets destroyed, everyone will forget everything that happened.

Coming hot on the heels of the first image of Ben Affleck as The Dark Knight in Batman vs. Superman is another piece of news that might be of (considerably less, but still some) interest to DC fans, with Warner Bros. announcing that the Justice League will be taking on their arch enemies the Legion of Doom a week from now with the wide release of the family-friendly animated movie Jla Adventures: Trapped in Time on May 20th. Disney Blu-ray Roundup: ‘The Sword in the Stone,’ ‘Robin Hood,’ and ‘Oliver & Company’

I feel like I’m starting to sound like a broken record when reviewing new Disney Blu-rays. (Please allow me to maintain the foolhardy hope that I’m only just now sounding repetitive.) I commend the Walt Disney Company’s dedication to releasing, apparently, the entirety of its animated-feature canon on Blu-ray, updating decades-old films via a high-definition transfer. This month alone, four of their animated features will get the HD treatment for the first time; on August 27, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh comes out on Blu-ray. Today, though, Disney has a trio of animated features on Blu-ray, all celebrating anniversaries of some kind: The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, and Oliver & Company. And all of them are for completists or truly dedicated fans only.

I’ve brought this topic up before, but with this threesome of HD releases, ask yourself how much of a fan you are.

Reluctantly the League agrees, only to learn that the duo were working together to bring down Superman. The Man of Steel (at last!) gets pissed and decides to fight back. Production Notes: “One of our high priorities for season two was to bring Superman back to full stature,” explains Bruce Timm. “If anything we may have overcompensated a little bit with some of the lines, but nobody could accuse him of being a wimp after this one. We also wanted to, as our season two opener, do as big, expansive and
