The Notable Films of 2011: Part Four

27 December 2010 9:58 PM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Damsels in Distress

Opens: 2011

Cast: Adam Brody, Analeigh Tipton, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Ryan Metcalf

Director: Whit Stillman

Summary: The story revolves around a group of style-obsessed college girls who take in a new student (Gerwig) and teach her their misguided ways of helping people at their grungy university.

Analysis: The first film in a decade from arthouse darling Whit Stillman, a filmmaker's filmmaker whose three Manhattan-based, yuppie-themed mannerist comedies - "Metropolitan," "Barcelona" and "The Last Days of Disco" - were a big influence on the likes of auteurs such as Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach. Stillman says this film varies somewhat from his previous trilogy of sorts, telling First Things that "This film is different, Completely different. Okay, not completely different, but it’s different".

Independently financed by Castle Rock CEO Martin Shafer, the project recently wrapped filming in Manhattan where Stillman returned to last year after having spent much »

Drive Angry (3D) UK trailer

Here's the international trailer for Drive Angry, the new 3D Nicolas Cage outing winging its way to our cinemas on February 25th. The synopsis is too fruity to paraphrase:

Milton (Cage), a hardened felon, has broken out of Hell for one last chance at redemption. Intent on stopping a vicious cult who murdered his daughter, he has three days to stop them before they sacrifice her baby beneath a full moon. He’s joined by Piper (Heard), a young, sexy waitress, who liberates her boyfriend’s cherry-red muscle car in order to help Milton.

Now the two of them are hot on the trail of the deadly leader of the cult, Jonah (Burke), who believes it is his destiny to use the baby to unleash Hell on Earth.  But the bloodthirsty cult is the least of Milton’s problems.  The police are after him too.  And worse, an enigmatic killer »

Nicolas Cage Drives Angrily — in 3D!

22 December 2010 7:10 AM, PST | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

I just came across a trailer for Drive Angry 3D, a new Nicolas Cage flick, and god help me, it looks freaking awesome. Can this be a return to form for the ol' bee hater?

Drive Angry 3D is the story a man named Milton who escapes Hell to track down the cult that murdered his daughter before — get this — they sacrifice his granddaughter. The trailer is a testosterone-fueled ride back to the grindhouse, full of big guns, hot muscle cars and scorching action. And of course, Nic Cage is strutting around the proceedings in what looks to be a rather measured performance. He's still over the top, but for Cage, it's fairly minimalist.

The flick is full of excellent supporting players and was directed by Patrick Lussier, who helmed the recent decent remake of My Bloody Valentine and appears to be headed for Halloween III territory next. Gnashing it »

'Drive Angry 3D' UK Poster Art and Trailer

One thing you can always count on from any film starring Nicholas Cage is the inadvertent and unintentional belly laughs that are certain to ensue from his overacting. That's part of the appeal of Cage though, so let's hope it doesn't ruin the upcoming film Drive Angry 3D (considering it already has a strike against itself with the 3D gimmick attached to it).

We're sure you'll enjoy the eye candy below as well as the UK trailer for the film. Check out the synopsis as well. Enjoy.

Drive Angry 3D UK Trailer

21 December 2010 4:30 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Summit Entertainment have released a UK International movie trailer for their upcoming 3D action revenge film Drive Angry 3D. The film stars Nicolas Cage as a "vengeful father chases after the men who killed his daughter." The movie is directed by Patrick Lussier, the helmer of My Bloody Valentine 3D, and the story is based on a screenplay he co-wrote with his Valentine writing partner Todd Farmer. The story is definitely R-Rated, an enraged man who is out for revenge, chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. I got a chance to screen a sneak preview of the film at Butt-num-a-thon earlier this month, and all I can tell you is that it is insane. If you want to see a bloody action-filled gimmicky action movie -- this is it. BleedingCool [1] have posted a new UK movie trailer, which we have embedded after the jump. Drive Angry 3D »
