Jimmy Buffett was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi and grew up living beside the the Gulf of Mexico. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi he worked his way to success in the music industry. His hits in the 70s including "Margaritaville" and "Come Monday" struck a chord and helped to build a huge fan-base of all ages over the decades. Married with three kids, Buffett loves fishing, flying and world travel. Buffett is also the author of numerous books including the bestselling "A Pirate Looks At Fifty" and has added movies to his repertoire as co-producer and co-star of an adaptation of Carl Hiaasen's novel Hoot (2006).

He is a licensed pilot who flies his own light aircraft.

Has done extensive work with environmental groups in Florida and the Carribbean.

Has licensed the name "Margaritaville", the title of one of his songs, to a brand of tequila, a margarita mix, and a chain of merchandise stores.

His books include "The Jolly Mon" (a children's book based on one of his songs), "Tales from Margaritaville: Fictional Facts and Factual Fictions", and "Where Is Joe Merchant?"

His concerts have a cult following, not unlike that of The Grateful Dead, with fans known as "parrotheads".

Owns a 1954 Grumman Albatross seaplane called "The Hemisphere Dancer".

Brother-in-law of Thomas McGuane.

Separated from his wife Jane in the early 80s. However, they reconciled in 1991 and remain happily married.

Is a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity of the Epsilon-Nu chapter from Southern Mississippi.

Buffett has claimed that his favorites of his own songs are: "He Went to Paris", "Death of an Unpopular Poet", "Come Monday", "A Pirate Looks at Forty", "Nautical Wheelers", "Son of a Son of a Sailor", "Sending the Old Man Home", "Twelve Volt Man", and "Distantly in Love".
