Adam Green’s Hatchet films have built a reputation of not only being incredibly gory & jaw-droppingly inventive thanks to the advent of good ‘ol practical effects, but also for it’s casting which is essentially The Avengers of the horror genre. Green’s debut film assembled horror titans such as Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, Tony Todd & effects legend John Carl Buechler, while the sequel expanded on that – adding new blood into the mix with cult-fan favorites Danielle Harris, A.J. Bowen, R.A. Mihailoff and even veteran director Tom Holland!
The currently deep in pre-production Hatchet 3 (they begin filming next week!) is definitely honoring that tradition by adding a heap of newcomers to the film including neo Jason Voorhees Derek Mears, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2‘s Caroline Williams, The Collector‘s Diane Goldner, The Fp & upcoming Vs Jason Trost and last but not least The People Under The Stairs‘ Sean Whalen!

As much as I love it, the Friday the 13th series isn’t exactly bound by strong continuity. Jason’s look fluctuates like the weather, people flock to Camp Crystal Lake in droves, seemingly unaware that it never turns out well for those involved, and Why does the camp look like it’s in a different state for every film (don’t answer that)?
That’s not to even begin trying to piece together a strict sense of passing time throughout the Paramount-era films. Ever try? Dating everything out, the best you can do is place Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood in the year 1999 or 2000 – which is amazingly problematic to say the least considering Kevin Blair runs around in denim the entire movie.
Along the way there have been many Wtf moments. Characters disappear, others reappear. People stumble in out of nowhere just to be killed and then forgotten about. »

Jason Voorhees is a household name, there’s no arguing. Everyone may be familiar with the summer camp slasher’s iconic look as far as the hockey mask goes, but it’s a lot harder to find a definitive consensus on Mr. Voorhees’ most successful incarnation. It changes as often as the weather, and much more dramatically, to boot.
So we’re taking another look back at Friday the 13th - this time from the perspective of our main man’s getups from the past thirty years. Like any enduring movie monster, he’s had his ups and downs. Moments we love and others we’d like to forget. From mongoloid Jason to that mongoloid remake, we’ll leave no face unmasked as we travel the bumpy road of my own personal favorite movie villain in the hopes of documenting what worked, and what didn’t. Which movies got it right, »
