We take a look back at David Lynch and Mark Frost's next TV move after Twin Peaks, the undeniably odd On The Air...
You're probably currently either immersed in the intense, vast, odd world presented in Twin Peaks: The Return, or completely baffled by it with an expression very similar to Agent Cooper, or should that be Dougie Jones, post Black Lodge.

Whichever it is, it's probably not as baffled as many were when David Lynch and Mark Frost followed up Twin Peaks with their next TV collaboration. This time their attention was directed towards a sitcom. They brought some Twin Peaks alumni along for the ride, Ian Buchanan basically reprising his role as Dick Tremayne this time under the guise of Lester Guy and Miguel Ferrer exporting Albert Rosenfeld into Bud Budwaller, but On The Air was something completely different.
If you thought the first two hours of the Twin Peaks revival were weird, you haven't really seen anything yet.
Let's start with what is easily the David Lynch-iest sequence of the show so far.
The Purple Spaceship
After being expelled from the Black Lodge and taking a quick pit stop in the glass box in New York City, real Agent Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) finds himself in a weird purple spaceship thing with a woman who is listed in the credits as Naido (Nae Yuuki). Her eyes are melted shut, which lends some weight to the idea that eyes are important in Twin Peaks -- Ruth Davenport (Mary Stofle) was missing an eye and it also appeared that Evil Cooper (MacLachlan) shot Phyllis Hastings (Cornelia Guest) through the eye.
The woman eventually disappears and Cooper encounters the shadowy head of Major Garland Briggs (Don S. Davis), who utters the phrase "blue rose
The movie tells the story of a tough policewoman who is sent to investigate the robbery of a temple near a remote village, where she is confronted by wary villagers and a snooping American TV crew.
The cast includes Ian Buchanan (“Panic Room”), Emrhys Cooper (“Person of Interest”) and Keith Jefferson (“The Hateful Eight”). Other thesps include Charlotte Price (“Wild in Blue,” “The Sex Trip”) and Bhutanese actress Kinley Pelden.
Principal photography starts in Bhutan on Jan. 20. Pic is produced by Happy Himalayan Pictures and Dream It Productions, and is co-produced by Suzanne Patrick, Pelden, Cooper and Donald A. Barton.
TVLine can exclusively report that the digital series will debut its first three episodes on Monday, Jan. 12, followed by another three on Feb. 2.
