Though director Ron Howard dabbled in lighter romantic comedy fare for his last film (2011’s The Dilemma), he’s getting back into the period groove with his next feature, Rush. The film takes place in the world of Formula 1 racing and chronicles the 1970s rivalry between Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and British driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth). Production wrapped earlier this year, but we have to wait until next September before the pic hits theaters. Steve recently interviewed producer Eric Fellner in anticipation of the release of Tom Hooper’s musical adaptation Les Miserables, and Fellner talked a bit about Rush. He revealed that he’s seen a nearly completed cut of the film, teased a standout performance from Brühl, and talked about the film’s promising test scores. Hit the jump for more. Steve began by asking if Fellner has seen a rough cut of the film, »

It’s always neat when movie gossip and major news issues actually collide and even more so when both pieces of news are on something relevant and interesting. THR reports that there’s been a change of plans for Bill Condon’s upcoming film about WikiLeaks and the controversial Julian Assange. Due to scheduling conflicts with the new X-Men: Days of Future Past, James McAvoy will be dropping out with Daniel Brühl of Inglourious Basterds stepping in to fill his shoes. »

• George Clooney is attached to star in and produce an untitled crime film written by Argo scribe Chris Terrio. Filmmaker Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy) is attached to direct and produce, along with Clooney’s producing partner Grant Heslov. And that’s all we got for this one, folks — the details of the script remain top secret. Probably not a sci-fi adventure set in the Persian desert, though. [Variety]
• Inglourious Basterds’ Daniel Brühl is logging onto the untitled Wikileaks movie as Daniel Domscheit-Berg (gesundheit!), the man who helped Julian Assange (Benedict Cumberbatch – i.e. Benny Batch) build his site for clandestine government secrets. »

Unless you spotted him in a small role in The Bourne Ultimatum, American audiences got their best look at German actor Daniel Brühl when he played the sniper-turned-movie-star Fredrick Zoller in Quentin Tarantino's 2009 film Inglourious Basterds. He hasn't acted in much on this side of the world since then, but according to THR, Brühl is now set to replace James McAvoy in the Wikileaks movie that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon is directing for DreamWorks. The film follows Julian Assange, the founder of the site that had the world on edge as it exposed dozens of secret government documents. This film has already seen its share of actor shakeups, since it was originally supposed to star Jeremy Renner as Assange but "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch stepped up to replace him. Laura Linney just signed on this past Monday in an unknown role, so even with the »

Less than one month after James McAvoy entered talks to star in the Untitled WikiLeaks/DreamWorks Project, the actor has dropped out. Inglourious Basterds star Daniel Brühl has finalized a deal to replace the departing actor, who left due to scheduling issues.
Daniel Brühl will play Daniel Domscheit-Berg, the right hand man of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Daniel Domscheit-Berg's departure from the website is credited as one of the many reasons why thousands of diplomatic cables were leaked in September 2011, which lead to Julian Assange's downfall.
Bill Condon is directing from an adapted screenplay by Josh Singer, based on Daniel Domscheit-Berg's book Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange At The World's Most Dangerous Website and WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War On Secrecy by British jorunalists David Leigh and Luke Harding. There were reports that Laura Linney was circling a role as a State Department official, »
We recently reported that James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) was in negotiations to star opposite Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) in director Bill Condon's Julian Assange/WikiLeaks movie, but it looks like that role has fallen to Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds). With Cumberbatch set to play WikiLeaks founder Assange, Brühl will play his right-hand man, Daniel Domscheit-Berg. Domscheit-Berg was a German tech activist who became a spokesman for the organization and wrote the book Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World's Most Dangerous Website, the rights of which were picked up by DreamWorks. Hit the jump for more. THR reports that Brühl will get the role instead of McAvoy due to a breakdown in negotiations complicated by the actor's commitment to X-Men: Days of Future Past. DreamWorks has fast-tracked the WikiLeaks picture and is looking to start shooting as early as January. The studio also picked up the »

It looks like we'll have to keep waiting for the reunion between "Atonement" and "Starter For 10" stars Benedict Cumberbatch and James McAvoy. While it was just a few weeks ago that it was reported the pair would team for the Bill Condon-directed WikiLeaks movie, it looks like McAvoy has moved on. THR reports that Daniel Bruhl ("Inglourious Basterds," "Joyeux Noel," "The Bourne Ultimatum," "Goodbye Lenin!") has replaced the actor in the film. Simply put, it's down to scheduling as McAvoy can't work around his commitments for "X-Men: Days of Future Past," as DreamWorks wants to get this movie up and running in January. Based on the books "Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange At The World's Most Dangerous Website" and "WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War On Secrecy," and penned by Josh Singer ("The West Wing," "Fringe"), the film will »

When you look at Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, set in World War II, and his latest film Django Unchained, set before the Civil War, one may not think they are connected. However, the director dropped an intriguing tidbit in a recent interview, where he believes they are both a part of the same trilogy.
"I don't know, Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained bespeak a trilogy. As different as they are, there is a companion piece quality. There might very well be a third one. I just don't know what it is yet."
Since both Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained are period pieces, it makes one wonder which period the filmmaker will tackle next. The Industrial Revolution? The Vietnam War? It will also be interesting to see if Christoph Waltz pops up in the third film, since he has starred in the first two. We'll keep you posted if any »

Rumoured for a while but only just officially confirmed, Daniel Brühl has joined the already impressive cast of the John Le Carré adaptation A Most Wanted Man. Anton Corbijn (Control, The American), as you'll know by now, is directing. The story follows Issa, a refugee lately escaped from a Turkish prison and on the run from the Swedish authorities, who claims to be Chechen, but, rather mysteriously, doesn't speak the language. Arriving in Hamburg, he reveals he has the means to access a very private bank account containing a legacy of dubious origin. It's not long before British, German and American intelligence agencies are paying close attention.Brühl's character is unclear, since the most-wanted role of Issa belongs to Grigoriy Dobrygin (How I Ended This Summer). Philip Seymour Hoffman is aboard the film as German spook Gunther Bachmann; Robin Wright is playing CIA wonk Martha Sulllivan; Rachel McAdams is Annabel Richter, »
Even with only two feature films under his belt, photographer and filmmaker Anton Corbijn has become a director with a distinct voice. His debut "Control" was a startling look at the life of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, while his followup "The American" placed George Clooney in a pretty nifty anti-thriller that favored mood over action. And so we couldn't be more excited about this next, the John Le Carré adaptation of "A Most Wanted Man." And with production now starting, a few more names an official synopsis have been revealed for the picture. "Inglourious Basterds," "The Edukators," "Goodbye Lenin!" and "The Bourne Ultimatum" star Daniel Brühl (who was rumored over a month ago) has joined Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright and Willem Dafoe in the film, with Franz Hartwig, Kostja Ullman, Rainer Bock, Charlotte Schwab, Max Volkert Martens and Martin Wuttke rounding »
