Additional Details
Other Works:
The first actress to play (and sing) the role of Julie in a Broadway production of Kern and Hammerstein's "Show Boat" after it had been played by the legendary Helen Morgan. Ms. Morgan, who died in 1941, virtually owned the role and had played it in the original 1927 production, the first (1932) revival and the 1936 movie. Ms. Bruce played the role onstage in 1946 and withstood favorable comparisons to Helen Morgan.
