Film Review: ‘Cold Moon’

Film Review: ‘Cold Moon’
An eccentric mix of veteran actors, Southern Gothicism and neo-noir lends “Cold Moon” a certain charm as a ghostly revenge thriller. This handsome-looking potboiler is well-crafted on various planes, even if telepic and direct-to-video helmer Griff Furst’s mostly game-upping latest feature is also occasionally at tonal odds with the screenplay’s campier “Creepshow”-type horror aspects. Nonetheless, as guilty pleasures go, this one rates a solid B.

Orphaned Jerry Larkin (Chester Rushing) is a sober-minded youth attentive to the financial plight of grandmother Evelyn (Candy Clark) and their family’s Florida blueberry farm — in contrast to high-spirited sister Margaret (Sara Catherine Bellamy). Galavanting around on her bicycle long past when she’s due home, Margaret is attacked by a mysterious, hearse-driving figure on her belated return. He throws her over a bridge, then leaps over himself to ensure she drowns. Afterward, a coroner discovers the 16-year-old was four months pregnant.

Nicolas Cage Flees the First Poster for Stolen (formerly Medallion)

Nicolas Cage’s “Stolen” used to be called “Medallion”, but perhaps they didn’t want to confuse the film with the Jackie Chan movie from 2003, and changed the title. Either way, it’s a blah title, and the first sales art/poster for the movie is equally blah. It’s Nicolas Cage running from an exploding car. That’s overturned. That’s … pretty much the film’s selling point, I guess. If, you know, you’re a Nicolas Cage fanatic. In “Stolen”, Cage plays an ex-thief who is (of course) pulled back into the business when bad guys kidnap his daughter, stuffs her into the trunk of a taxi, and forces him to pull one last job … or else! Oh, the one last job gag. It’s as eternal as TV shows about cops and doctors and lawyers. Cage co-stars with Josh Lucas, Danny Huston, Mark Valley, Sami Gayle, M.C. Gainey,

DVD Review: House of Bones

House Of Bones

Stars: Charisma Carpenter, Marcus Lyle Brown, Ricky Wayne, Kyle Clements, Collin Galyean, Corin Nemec | Written by Anthony C. Ferrante, Jay Frasco | Directed by Jeffery Lando

“This jumpy horror yarn (headlined by Corin Nemec and Charisma Carpenter) takes you on the journey with a group of reality television ghost hunters as they get trapped in a haunted plantation home. Their initial attempt for creating an entertaining reality show soon becomes a lot darker than anticipated. Through their attempt to uncover the many secrets in this haunted house, they become convinced that they are not only in the presence of the dead but surrounded by evil, supernatural activity. As fleeting spirits are spotted, fear becomes apparent. Crew members start going missing, objects around are disappearing and the house itself feels alive. It seems the crew’s only hope of survival is to unlock the mysteries of the plantation’s dark past…

Texas Killing Fields (2011) Movie Trailer: Ami Canaan Mann

Texas Killing Fields Trailer. Ami Canaan Mann‘s Texas Killing Fields (2011) movie trailer stars Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chloe Moretz, Jessica Chastain, and Stephen Graham. Texas Killing Fields’ plot synopsis: “Texas Killing Fields follows a homicide detective in a small Texan town and his partner, a transplanted cop from NYC, as they track a serial killer dumping his victims’ mutilated bodies in a nearby marsh locals call ‘The Killing Fields’”.

I pieced together from this trailer *spoiler begins* that Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character uses Chloe Moretz’s character off-the-books as bait for the serial killer and the serial killer takes it (her) *spoiler ends*. That is just conjecture on my part but from this movie trailer I think that is what happens. This film could be good, certainly better than languid Small Town Murder Songs.

Texas Killing Fields also stars Jason Clarke, Annabeth Gish, Sheryl Lee, Leanne Cochran,

DVD and Blu-Ray Releases: January 25th - Costas Mandylor in Dead Space

So the day has come for you folks to take home Costas Mandylor in the final chapter of the phenomenon that is Saw! Well, at least until the inevitable reboot. Even cooler...if the jolly red-suited fatman brought you a 3D television last month, you can watch this puppy in its gory 3D glory, too.

Another franchise that is buzzing this week is the video game sequel, Dead Space 2. In addition to the game itself, you can also bring home the collector's edition, the album soundtrack, a hardcover game guide, and an animated DVD movie. That should keep you busy for a while.

Oh yeah, there are a couple of other interesting titles with some familiar faces from "True Blood", "Angel", "Buffy", and even "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman".

Saw: The Final Chapter (Blu-ray Review)

Directed by Kevin Greutert

Starring Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell, Sean Patrick Flanery, Cary Elwes,

Exclusive Video: Brand New Who Do You Love Clip

We have a brand new exclusive clip from the biopic Who Do You Love, which arrives in theaters today, April 9. Click below for our exclusive video, which features Alessandro Nivola as Leonard Chess and Chi McBride as Willie Nixon discussing the record business:

Exclusive: Lets Make Another One

Leonard Chess (Alessandro Nivola) changed the face of modern music, and he did so without playing a note. An immigrant living in Chicago just as the city was exploding with new blues sounds, he heard what few others did at the time: the universal passion in the music of performers like Etta James, Muddy Waters and Bo Diddley, who all rose to fame thanks to Chess. At first with a nightclub and then with his legendary record label, Leonard Chess earned his place in American cultural history. This is his story, the real story, and it rocks.

Who Do You Love was released April 9th,
