Many married men expect sex along with their room service, according to a Newsweek poll. But will the Strauss-Kahn scandal change the rules of the game? Jacob Bernstein and Jesse Ellison investigate the dirty secret about business travel in the current issue of Newsweek.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn won't go down in history as the next president of France, but he may well be remembered as the man who made the "hospitality industry" a lot less hospitable.

More than a few business travelers think of sex as a hotel amenity, like free shampoo or chocolates on the pillow, and before Strauss-Kahn's perp walk on charges that he sexually assaulted a cleaning woman, most hotels looked the other way. Smothered in sunshine, dripping with glitz and jingling with cash, the Cannes festival is the place for film folk to be unseen
The big story
The secret to success at a film festival? Well, first of all, don't make films, or, if you must, do so only sparingly. Then forget about all that red carpet nonsense; in fact forget about publicising your work completely – the artist doesn't have to be a salesman. And lastly, when the festival offers you its top prize, don't, whatever you do, go along to pick it up. The event will lap up any photo non-opportunities you can throw its way. If you can follow these basic rules you are well on the road to glory, as Terrence Malick proved at Cannes at the weekend.

Joseph Brooks was hardly a household name, but his work became famous in 1977 when he penned the hit song “You Light Up My Life,” originally sung by Debby Boone. In fact, Brooks won an Oscar for the song, and went on to have a very prolific and successful career.
Unfortunately that career was marred recently by allegations of multiple sexual assaults, and over the weekend, as Brooks awaited trial for the charges, he took his own life. Authorities have said that Brooks left a three-page suicide note, which, among other things, discussed his health issues. Brooks is survived by a son, Nicholas Brooks, who himself is currently awaiting trial for murder.

Joseph Brooks, who killed himself yesterday at his Manhattan apartment, won an Oscar for the bestselling song "You Light Up My Life," from the movie of the same name which Brooks himself directed. Accompanied by several young girls, Debby Boone (photo), who reportedly claimed she dedicated the song to God every time she sang it, performed "You Light Up My Life" at the 1978 Academy Awards ceremony. Though nothing compared to the furor following Best Supporting Actress Vanessa Redgrave's acceptance speech, the wholesome "You Light Up My Life" engendered its own bit of ungodly controversy. Joseph Brooks, the Oscar and Grammy winning producer, director, screenwriter and composer, was found dead today of an apparent suicide. Brooks was in poor health and about to stand trial on charges that he lured women for acting auditions, drugged them and then raped them. Brooks had plead innocent to the charges. In 1977, Brooks was the creative force behind You Light Up My Life, a low-budget romance that was cleverly marketed around a title song that won him and Oscar and a Grammy. The film was also a major hit, but Brooks' follow-up efforts never repeated the success. Ironically, Brooks son Nicholas is also in legal trouble, charged with murdering his girlfriend. Joseph Brooks, the man who won an Academy Award and a Grammy for writing "You Light Up My Life" was found dead, May 22.
The AP reports Brooks' body was found in his New York City apartment by a friend, with a plastic bag tied around his head, connect to a helium tank. Police are also said to have found a suicide note, though the contents of it were not available.
Brooks was 73.
Though he had a great deal of success earlier in his life, writing the theme song to 1977's "You Light Up My Life" -- which he also wrote and directed -- Brooks' later life was marred by tragedy and scandal.
He suffered a stroke that left him unable to play the piano. And in 2009, he was formally accused of raping 13 women, who he allegedly lured to his apartment and drugged. His trial had still not been set at his time of death.

Oscar-winning composer Joseph Brooks has been ordered to pay up in his legal battle with a woman who accused him of rape, three months after a Washington state judge awarded the alleged victim a $2 million settlement. The 72 year old, best known for his acclaimed song "You Light Up My Life", is facing 13 charges of sexual assault following claims he molested a string of young hopeful actresses who visited his apartment to audition for screen roles.
He is currently free on $1.25 million bail but he's been forced to dig deep once again to settle the legal action levied against him by Claire Thornhill. She was awarded the $2 million default judgment by a Washington judge in June, but Brooks failed to hand over the money.
Thornhill filed new court papers in a New York court on Friday, September 3 asking officials to enforce the Washington ruling in the Big Apple, where Brooks lives.

The Oscar-winning composer and director of "You Light Up My Life" is alleged to have raped eleven women he lured to his apartment with the promise of a starring role in a movie, reports TimesOnline. The women read an online ad placed by the director, Joseph Brooks, then applied for the audition "and thought this was their chance to become a big star," prosecutor Lisa Friel said at his arraignment yesterday. Instead, once the women were in Brooks' Manhattan apartment, he allegedly plied them with wine and forcibly raped them or used threats and coercive behavior to make them have sex with him, prosecutors said. Brooks, 71, has denied the accusations. He pleaded not guilty in Manhattan's state Supreme Court, where he was arraigned on a 91-count indictment charging him with rape, criminal sexual act, sexual abuse, assault and other charges. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of first-degree rape.
