TV Review: Strong Cast Deserves Better Than Generic ‘Men at Work’

24 May 2012 7:32 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – There are some talented people starring in TBS’s new sitcom “Men at Work,” another attempt to grow the budding cable network’s brand as a home for comedy. Following “Conan,” Tyler Perry’s sitcoms, highly rated repeats of “The Big Bang Theory,” and the announcement that “Cougar Town” will move to the net from ABC, TBS is finally starting to attempt to live up to its slogan of “Very Funny.” Sadly, “Men at Work” doesn’t meet that description. How about “Kinda Funny But Mostly Stupid”?

TV Rating: 2.5/5.0

The true shame is that there are a number of clearly talented, funny guys involved with “Men at Work”…but they’re given the kind of cliched, boring jokes that most sitcom viewers grew tired of in 1992. Yes, it’s another show about a group of boisterous, outgoing guys who think the word “balls” is hilarious and like to say »

Beastie Boys: The Lost 'Chappelle's Show' Performance (Video)

7 May 2012 1:03 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

"Chappelle's Show" co-creator Neal Brennan remembered Beastie Boy Adam "McA" Yauch by releasing footage of the group performing "The New Style" for the show's never-to-be third season. The video, filmed on New York City's East River, finds the Beasties letting the beat.... Drop with help from Chappelle. The third season never aired because Chappelle famously walked away from the Comedy Central series in 2006. (Three episodes were compiled from sketches shot for the third season.) Fans of Brennan, meanwhile, might enjoy his podcast, "The Champs," with Moshe Kasher and DJ Douggpound. Watch the »

Kirsten Dunst On The Road Poster

20 April 2012 4:36 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Kirsten Dunst/Camille On the Road poster If this isn't an all-out smile, I don't know what is. Those sparkling white teeth and healthy-looking gums belong to Kirsten Dunst. What a world! What a life! What a dentist!. I'm assuming Dunst's is the last On the Road "character" poster we're adding, as every major On the Road character has already gotten his/her poster. Dunst's actually came out before the ones for the film's three leads, Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, and Kristen Stewart. We're just late posting it. In On the Road, Dunst plays Camille, the wife of Dean Moriarty (Hedlund), who leaves her behind to go on the road with the much younger Marylou (Stewart). Camille is based on Carolyn Cassady, the first wife of the sexually adventurous Neal Cassady (Moriarty in the novel/film). Sissy Spacek played Carolyn Cassady in John Byrum's Heart Beat, based on Cassady's 1976 book of memoirs, »

Did Dave Chappelle Join Twitter?

26 March 2012 12:24 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Update: Are you ready for this? Dave Chappelle's Twitter account is now officially verified, but not under the handle he previously used.

Before the real Chappelle started tweeting, an imposter had already claimed the handle @DaveChappelle, so he created his own handle, @ChappelleDavidK. Shortly after being endorsed by Aziz Ansari, Neal Brennan and more, the original, albeit fake account, @DaveChappelle, was disabled so that the real Chappelle could start using it. That left the new, now-abandoned @ChappelleDavidK open for someone to claim, which someone did, and started tweeting from it as though it was still the real Chappelle.

To make things even more confusing, the new user of @ChappelleDavidK made the page look like a clone of the real Chappelle's page, with the same pictures and tweets. Twitter allows users to change their handle and display name at will, which is why the verification system is important for celebrities. »

Dave Chappelle Resurfaces on Twitter

22 March 2012 7:46 PM, PDT | TheInsider.com | See recent The Insider news »

Reclusive comedian Dave Chappelle has apparently joined Twitter, according to Judd Apatow, Aziz Ansari and Chappelle's writing partner Neal Brennan, but is the micro-blogging site the best format for the comic?

I hate to say it, but Chappelle's tweets have been somewhat disappointing thus far. This begs the question of whether Chappelle can be funny in 140 characters or less. Chappelle, known for his hilarious stories may have come up against his comedy kryptonite, as the format is more kind to one liners.

Top Stars We Wish Would Sign Up for Twitter

Still, while much has been made of the lack of side-splitting jokes being posted to the funnyman's account, he has racked up over 130,000 followers in less than a week.

"I can't think of anything provocative to tweet, and yet, I must continue," Dave admitted yesterday. "Must ... keep ... tweeting."

I hope he sticks to his commitment. Practice makes perfect. »

Watch: Late Night Stand-Up Rewind For The Week

25 February 2012 1:03 PM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

The Internet has a way of sharing Internet-ready comedy clips and celebrity interviews from late night talk shows, but what about stand-up performances? A tight set may no longer be the career boost it once was, but we're always happy to see a funny comic have their moment in the sun in front of an audience of millions.

Last week, Ramin Nazer made his TV debut on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," Jay Larson did a set on "Conan," and Nick Griffin performed on Letterman for the eighth time. Todd Glass didn't perform stand-up on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," but he talked about the rigors of being a touring stand-up comic. Plus, a bonus clip of Neal Brennan on Fallon last week.

Let's hope we see more female comics soon!

Larry King And CNN: The Ties That Unbind

16 February 2012 12:48 PM, PST | Studio Briefing - TV News | See recent Studio Briefing - TV News news »

Larry King’s second life at CNN as the host of quarterly specials has ended after only four such specials aired, the last one in December, in which King startlingly remarked that he wanted to be frozen after he died, published reports observed on Wednesday. After he was replaced by Piers Morgan in January 2011 after 25 years on the cable news channel, King said that he was not leaving CNN but would continue to preside over interview specials, which included last year’s “Dinner with the Kings,” a “dinner party” in which his guests included Conan O’Brien, Tyra Banks, Shaquille O’Neal and Seth MacFarlane. Neither King nor CNN indicated on Monday what had led to the formal breach, which was first reported in a blog post by the Los Angeles Times. Each side issued fond remarks about the other. »
