Dame Lilian Braithwaite was essentially a theatre actress who made few films. Played Ivor Novello's mother in Hitchcock's "Downhill", but few of her other films are of note. Only made one film after 1932 - "A Man About the House". Knighted as a Dame Commander of the British Empire (D.B.E.) by the King for her services to the arts.
She was awarded the DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1943 King's New Year Honours List for her services to drama.
A clergyman's daughter, on stage from 1900.
