These guys won't be coming back to Alcatraz.
Well, we can’t say we’re surprised by this news: Fox has cancelled Alcatraz. The network has condemned the entertaining but not quite convincing sci-fi-mystery-procedural mash-up to the usually inescapable prison of TV history after only one season (or really just a half-season, given that it ran for only 13 episodes). The cancellation was widely expected because of the series’ so-so ratings.
Alcatraz took time to grow on yours truly but eventually the combination of intriguing mystery and neatly constructed flashbacks built up enough steam to keep me coming back. Even so, the present day sequences didn’t quite add up and the lead characters were neither entirely convincing or particularly interesting. In the final analysis, Alcatraz was a decent show but not a great one. For too many TV watchers, that was seemingly not enough.

David S. Goyer co-wrote Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and the forthcoming film, The Dark Knight Rises, along with director Zack Snyder’s hotly anticipated Superman reboot, Man of Steel, and he has solid geek cred in having previously co-written three Blade and two Ghost Rider films.
So, what is Goyer working on next? Deadline reports that David Linde and Tory Metzger‘s production comany Lava Bear Films is set to develop an as yet untitled supernatural thriller, based on an original idea by Goyer.
Goyer also developed the sci-fi drama, FlashForward, with Brannon Braga that sadly only lasted one season on ABC. A notable hiatus broke up the show’s momentum and ratings put the show on the bubble. Still, FlashForward captured the imagination of many and garnered much fan support throughout its short time on air. I am very much looking forward to what Goyer has dreamt up next! »

Netflix has passed on developing Fox Drama Terra Nova. The video streaming site and 20th century Fox were not able to make a deal, after 2 weeks of negotiations. The studio is not giving up on the project yet as it hasn't released the actor involved with the show.
The show followed the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.
We reported earlier this month that the series was canceled by Fox, due to mediocre ratings on its first season.
The show came from producers Steven Spielberg, Peter Chernin, René Echevarria and Brannon Braga. It starred Jason O'Mara, Shelley Conn, Landon Liboiron, Naomi Scott and Stephen Lang. »

Fox has chosen to send the dinosaur drama Terra Nova from executive producer Steven Spielberg and starring Jason O'Mara into extinction after dragging out a decision regarding its fate since the Season 1 finale in December of last year.
Terra Nova was originally billed as one of the highest profile new pilots and shows last fall, a lavish and expensive science fiction serial drama with dino-sized visual effects and extensive sets built entirely on location in Australia. Fox went all-in on the production with Steven Spielberg's name attached, even bringing in Stephen Lang in a manly role reminiscent of his turn in James Cameron's Avatar.
Ultimately Terra Nova was not a cheap show to produce and it failed to attract the kind of domestic ratings Fox was hoping for. The two-hour pilot alone is said to have cost Fox around $14 million to produce. The 11-episode first and currently only season »

Fox has canceled the dinosaur drama Terra Nova from executive producer Steven Spielberg and starring Jason O'Mara after dragging out a decision regarding its fate over the past couple months.
Terra Nova was billed as one of the biggest new shows in the fall, a lavish and expensive science fiction serial drama with dino-sized visual effects. They went all-in on the production with Steven Spielberg's name attached, even bringing in Stephen Lang in a role reminiscent of his turn in James Cameron's Avatar.
Ultimately Terra Nova was not a cheap show to produce and it failed to attract the kind of domestic ratings Fox was hoping for. The two-hour pilot alone is said to have cost Fox between $10 and $20 million to make. The 11-episode first and currently only season pulled in an average of 7.5 million viewers, 2.6 million of those falling in the 18-49 demo that ultimately determines a show's fate. »

Fox have cancelled “Terra Nova” after just one season, it has been announced.
The high budgeted pre-historic drama was always seen as vulnerable for the chop after mediocre ratings and little critical interest and after weeks of coming up with ideas that could keep it on the network, Fox decided to officially pull the plug yesterday.
The only chance for Terra Nova to get a second season is if another network picks it up. This may not be impossible given that Steven Spielberg, Brannon Braga and Peter Chernin who produce the show are big names, and international sales have been strong for 20th Century Fox TV (a sibling for Fox) for the Stephen Lang and Jason O’Mara starrer and there is a glimmer hope that it may get renewed. But the smart money is on the end of Shannon family’s plight 85 millions years in the past.

After just a single season, Fox's "Terra Nova" has been cancelled. The show, from executive producers Steven Spielberg, Peter Chernin, René Echevarria and Brannon Braga, followed an ordinary family, the Shannons, on a journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as part of an experiment to save mankind. It starred Stephen Lang, Jason O'Mara, Shelley Conn, Landon Liboiron, Naomi Scott and Alana Mansour. There is the possibility that a new network could step in and pick up the series, but, at the moment, the future (or, depending on how you look at it, the past) of the Shannon family looks grim. »

Photo: Paramount Home Entertainment Fox recently released three Alfred Hitchcock classics on Blu-ray and I've already covered Rebecca in my dissection of Hitchcock's use of flashbacks and then I explored Spellbound and my three favorite aspects of that film. Now I turn to Notorious, and while Rebecca may be the only film from Hitchcock to ever win Oscar's Best Picture, Notorious may be one of the helmer's most beloved features. Curiously enough, did you know it is actually the unofficial source material for the most loathed installment in Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible franchise? Not that you would know by the film's credits... When I popped the Notorious Blu-ray into the player, I first noticed it features a strong improvement when it comes to image quality when compared to the previously released DVD edition, but it wasn't too far into the film that I began to realize it held a »
