X-Men: The New Mutants Is Going to Be a Trilogy, and All 3 Movies Will Be Terrifying

16 October 2017 8:50 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

With its newest film, the X-Men franchise plans on going in a much darker direction. Like, much, much darker. The first trailer for The New Mutants recently dropped, and its overt horror genre vibes definitely gave some longtime fans of the series a shock. Like Logan, it looks like the new installment into the X-Men universe is making a big tonal shift, and if we're being honest, we're totally on board. The film doesn't premiere until next Spring, but apparently a New Mutants trilogy is already in the works. Here's everything we know about it so far! RelatedThe Surprising Way Legion Is Connected to the X-Men Universe The Cast The core cast consists of a not-so-nice doctor, Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga), and the five young mutants imprisoned in the asylum she's working in. X-Men: The New Mutants director talks horror tone, trilogy plans, and new characters

15 October 2017 10:55 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Earlier this week, 20th Century Fox revealed the first trailer for its horror-themed X-Men spinoff The New Mutants, and now director Josh Boone has been chatting to IGN about the film’s tone, his plans for a trilogy of movies, and their place in the wider X-Men universe.

“We brought it to Foxas a trilogy of films, really all based on that long run by Sienkiewicz, and kind of incorporates some stuff from later issues in the 1980s,” said Boone. “These are all going to be horror movies, and they’re all be their own distinct kind of horror movies. This is certainly the ‘rubber-reality’ supernatural horror movie. The next one will be a completely different kind of horror movie. Our take was just go examine the horror genre through comic book movies and make each one its own distinct sort of horror film. Drawing from the big events that we love in the comics. »

‘The New Mutants’ Trailer Brings Horror to the Superhero Genre

13 October 2017 2:57 AM, PDT | Age of the Nerd | See recent Age of the Nerd news »

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for their next superhero franchise The New Mutants. From the looks of it, Fox is taking their X-franchise into a whole different direction. Check out the trailer below and see if you agree.

Never have I ever been freaked out by a trailer for a superhero film. It definitely looks like Fox is going with a horror feel and I think that’s perfect. The fact that Fox and director Josh Boone decided to go with a horror feel helps set this new team apart from the original X-Men franchise. It’s also surprising to see Boone go from directing a sad love story (The Fault in Our Stars) to something completely opposite. It shows how diverse of a director he can be.

Meet the New Kids - First Teaser Trailer for 'X-Men: The New Mutants'

13 October 2017 12:29 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Do you know what mutants are?" 20th Century Fox has unveiled the first teaser trailer for the new X-Men movie, this one title New Mutants, based on the spin-off comic series about a group of young mutants. Instead of continuing on with the X-Men superheroes we all know from the series of movies, Fox is trying something a bit different with a new group - starring Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as Mirage. Also starring Alice Braga and Happy Anderson. So far this looks very horrific, yet still seemingly aimed at younger audiences, with the director of The Fault in Our Stars at the helm. This is our very first look, it's worth a watch. Not at all what you're expecting, way more of a horror than an X-Men movie, but it looks intriguing. Here's the »

New Mutants Trailer Is Here Bringing the Next X-Men Saga

13 October 2017 12:04 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The New Mutants trailer is here sooner than anyone expected. Have you ever wondered what it might be like if someone made a horror movie with a bunch of mutant superheroes in it? Wonder no longer, because director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) has done exactly that with the X-Men spin-off The New Mutants. Now, we have the very first teaser trailer for the movie, which promises something the likes of which we've never seen in the X-Men universe before. Or really in a superhero movie in general, for that matter.

Josh Boone promised yesterday that the New Mutants teaser trailer would debut at 12:01 a.m. and it was delivered as promised. As New Mutants has been teased as the first ever Marvel horror movie, the director and Fox appear to be leaning pretty heavily into that angle, as they decided to release the trailer on Friday the 13th. »

The New Mutants Delivers A Frightful Teaser To Honor Friday The 13th

13 October 2017 12:02 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The X-Men cinematic universe isn’t known for its scares (save for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, though that’s a story for another day), but with The New Mutants, director Josh Boone is about to steer Fox’s mutant juggernaut into relatively uncharted, and very dark territory.

Forget the costumes, the supervillains and the plans for world domination, New Mutants is a horror-oriented oddity that largely takes place within the ice-white walls of a governmental research facility, where five young mutants are being held against their will. They’re hormonal, they’re powerful, and they’re ready to wreak havoc on just about anyone who crosses them, as today’s first-look teaser proves.

Similar to how Logan scaled back all of the grand, apocalyptic story elements scattered across Fox’s core X-Men franchise, Josh Boone’s spinoff sets itself apart as an intimate, relatively self-contained pic about five gifted teenagers who »

X-Men: The New Mutants is “a haunted-house movie with a bunch of hormonal teenagers”

22 September 2017 11:17 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Last week it was announced that production has wrapped on 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: The New Mutants, and now Fox’s Stacey Snider has been chatting to Variety about the Josh Boone-directed X-Men spinoff, describing it as “a haunted-house movie with a bunch of hormonal teenagers”.

“If we’re going to make a superhero movie, we have to ask ourselves: ‘What’s our version? What’s a Fox Marvel film?'” said Snider. “When you look at films like Deadpool or Logan or the upcoming New Mutants, you’ll see they have their own personality. Great effort has been put into making sure they’re differentiated. New Mutants is about these teenagers who are just coming into their powers. It’s like watching mutants go through adolescence and they have no impulse control, so they’re dangerous. The only solution is to put them in a Breakfast Club »

New Mutants Wraps, Cast Shares Final Set Photos

We reported last week that both The New Mutants and Deadpool 2 wrapped filming, but it seems the news of New Mutants wrapping was just a bit premature. Over the weekend, director Josh Boone and stars Maisie Williams (Wolfsbane) and Henry Zaga (Sunspot) took to social media to share some final photos from the set, while revealing that production had in fact now officially wrapped. Here's what Henry Zaga had to say in a statement about the production wrap to his Instagram followers.

Bloody New Mutants Logo Teases First X-Men Horror Movie

13 September 2017 7:35 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Most of Fox's The New Mutants must have been shot inside of a studio or at a very locked down location, because shooting comes to an end in the next couple of days, and we have yet to see one single set photo or leaked image of the cast. Today, we have a look at the official logo courtesy of director Josh Boone. A blood-splattered and bear-mauled image, it teases the horror elements that will be on display in this exciting X-Men spin-off.

The image comes direct from the official Josh Boone Instagram. He doesn't offer any new info about the movie, or what's being shot in these last days. He merely gives fans a quick wink and nod as if to acknowledge that he's still working away at his mutant opus.

Josh Boone Shares Updated New Mutants Logo As Filming Enters The Home Stretch

12 September 2017 2:37 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

In accordance with earlier reports, filming on 20th Century Fox and Josh Boone’s New Mutants spinoff has entered the home stretch, and an updated logo has arrived to prove it.

Posted to Boone’s personal Instagram feed (with a tip of the hat to Cbm), the logo below is drenched in blood. If nothing else, it proves Josh Boone wasn’t kidding around when he vowed to deliver a “full-blown” horror movie with New Mutants, and we’ve learned that the final product will be inspired by the horror trappings of Stephen King (It) and John Hughes.

Chronicling the story of gifted youngsters trapped within a super-secret research facility, New Mutants has endured a long, meandering journey to the big screen, but much like Deadpool 2 before it, principal photography is almost complete. As Boone revealed via Instagram, Fox’s 2018 spinoff has begun its last week of shooting in Canada, »

Bloody first logo for X-Men: The New Mutants

Director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) has taken to Instagram to announce that he’s in the final week of production on 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: The New Mutants, and in doing so, he’s also shared a first look at the film’s rather bloody logo; check it out here…

Boone had previously said The New Mutants will be “a full-fledged horror”, and the logo is certainly in fitting with that description. Although plot details are being kept under wraps, it is said that the film will be taking its inspiration from the classic ‘Demon Bear’ comic book story arc.

Deadpool 2 and New Mutants Wrap Shooting

8 September 2017 9:32 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The X-Men universe is alive and well. Deadpool really helped give some new life to what Fox is able to do with the X-Men franchise and next year will see the release of a couple new spin-offs, which have both wrapped production. Both The New Mutants and Deadpool 2 have quietly wrapped filming and are heading into post-production, giving them plenty of time to get the movies ready before their release next year.

Deadline brings us the news that director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) has finished up filming The New Mutants and David Leitch (Atomic Blonde) has done the same for Deadpool 2. The news was buried in their recent report on Drew Goddard (Daredevil) being hired to write and direct the X-Force spin-off, which will feature both Deadpool and Cable.
