20 June 2017 9:12 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

After it ended its run on ABC and what was then ABC Family, The CW revived Whose Line Is it Anyway?, with Aisha Tyler hosting the comedy improv series. Considering its age and the fact that it airs on the smallest network, which moved it several times in seasons 11 and 12, its declining ratings make sense. Will Whose Line Is it Anyway? be cancelled or renewed for season 14? Stay tuned. The Whose Line Is it Anyway? TV show features Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady, and Colin Mochrie improvising, along with a guest comedian in each episode. The cast tests their comedic acumen by participating in improvisational games. At the end of each round, Tyler awards points for their work, and the points don't count. Frequent guests include Brad Sherwood and Greg Proops. Read More… »

Bill Maher, HBO Face Backlash After Host Uses Racial Slur on ‘Real Time’

3 June 2017 11:30 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Bill Maher apologized and HBO scolded him publicly. But will that be enough to quiet the storm over Maher’s use of a racial slur during Friday’s edition of “Real Time with Bill Maher”?

Public outrage swelled following Friday’s 10 p.m. live airing of “Real Time with Bill Maher.” HBO issued a statement Saturday calling the host’s use of the phrase “I’m a house n—–” during an interview with Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse “completely inexcusable and tasteless.” HBO said the remark would be edited out of subsequent airings of the episode. Maher made the comment in jest after Sasse invited Maher to spend a day working in the fields of Nebraska’s farms.

Maher acknowledged that the N-word was “offensive” and said he regretted using it. “Friday nights are always my worst night of sleep because I’m up reflecting on the things I should or shouldn’t have said on my live »

The Best TV Guest Stars Ever — IndieWire Critics Survey

28 March 2017 9:57 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: Who has been the best guest star on a scripted show?

Tim Surette (@timsurette), TV.com

Wayne Brady showing up in body armor and riding a horse on Syfy’s post-apocalyptic disaster disaster “Aftermath” needs to be mentioned somewhere in this critics’ roundup, so here it is. But I’ll point out two from intentional comedies that come to mind. Timothy Olyphant’s short run on “The Grinder” as himself was fantastic and if I didn’t mention this my coworker Kaitlin would kill me. But my pick goes to David Duchovny, also as himself, on “The Larry Sanders Show.” We’d largely known Duchovny for »

Michael Davis: Weekend Without Bernie

21 March 2017 10:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

This past weekend a giant of entertainment left us. Chuck Berry was 90 years old, and I must admit I would from time to time wonder if Little Richard, Chubby Checker or Chuck were still with us.

I’ve not only had the pleasure of meeting each of these legends, I spent time with them. I worked in the music industry running the film and television arm of Motown Records for a click. Although a fantastic dancer and unbeatable in a lip-synch battle, I have no real musical talent, and at Motown I had almost zero to do with the core business.

Didn’t matter. Motown provided me access to anyone and everyone in the music industry. The music business can be very much like you see in TV and movies.

Sex drugs rock and roll complete with groupies’ wild parties and wilder people. What you see in the media does indeed happen, »
