Title Of Next James Bond Novel Revealed

15 April 2013 5:01 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Exactly a year on from the announcement that William Boyd would be writing the next James Bond novel, publishers Jonathan Cape have used the occasion of the London Book Fair to finally announce the title. The book, taking Bond back to 1969 after Jeffery Deaver's modern-day Carte Blanche, will be called Solo. With perhaps a smidgeon of a Licence To Kill vibe, the story sees Bond going rogue from MI6. "Sometimes less is more," explains Boyd. "For me as a novelist the simple beauty of Solo as the title of the next James Bond novel is that this short four-letter word is particularly and strikingly apt for the novel I have written. In my novel, events conspire to make Bond go off on a self-appointed mission of his own, unannounced and without any authorization, and he’s fully prepared to face the consequences of his audacity."Bond's journey takes in three continents, »

James Bond's Solo mission: William Boyd reveals new book title

15 April 2013 4:06 PM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Author announces his next 007 adventure will have single-word name reflecting unauthorised mission

William Boyd announced on Monday that the title of his forthcoming James Bond sequel will be Solo – reflecting the 45-year-old spy's decision to go off piste on an unauthorised mission.

Making his announcement at the opening day of the London Book Fair, Boyd said: "In my novel, events conspire to make Bond go off on a self-appointed mission of his own, unannounced and without any authorisation – and he's fully prepared to take the consequences of his audacity."

Boyd, who grew up in west Africa and has featured African countries in several novels, added that the continent would play a key part in Bond's three-continent escapade. "It's what happens to Bond in Africa that generates his urge to 'go solo' and take matters into his own hands in the USA."

On his choice of title, Boyd said: "Sometimes less is more. »

It was today announced at the London Book Fair (via The Guardian) by writer William Boyd that the next James Bond novel will be entitled Solo. Originally announced back in February (with only the logline, "1969. A veteran secret agent. A single mission. A licence to kill. James Bond returns"), it goes on sale this September. This follows on from the last authorised sequel; Jeffery Deaver's Carte Blanche. "In my novel, events conspire to make Bond go off on a self-appointed mission of his own, unannounced and without any authorisation – and he's fully prepared to take the consequences of his audacity," the writer said. Solo will see the 45 year old secret agent "go solo" in the USA after a mysterious mission in Afica. As for the choice of title, Boyd added: "Titles are very important to me and as soon as I wrote down Solo on a sheet of »

Ian Fleming’s iconic character has graced the pages and screen over the years in many forms and in countries all across the world.  MI6 has served as the base of all operations and the provider of info for the secret agent as he goes on his dangerous exploits across the globe.  However, 007 will be venturing out on his own mission in an upcoming book.  William Boyd – one of several authors who has carried on the Bond books following Ian Fleming’s passing – has announced that the secret agent will be on his own in his new novel which will be fittingly entitled Solo.  The author has this to say about the story.

“In my novel, events conspire to make Bond go off on a self-appointed mission of his own, unannounced and without any authorisation – and he’s fully prepared to take the consequences of his audacity.”

60 years of James Bond: 007 from Ian Fleming to Daniel Craig - pictures

12 April 2013 8:30 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

"The scent and smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning."

Few could have predicted that this opening line from Ian Fleming's 1953 spy novel Casino Royale would've kick-started a pop cultural phenomenon. James Bond's exploits have stretched far and wide, spanning literature, radio, video games and movies.

007 celebrated his 50th big screen anniversary last year in style with the release of billion-dollar Bond movie Skyfall, and this week marks the 60th anniversary of the publication of Casino Royale, the book where it all began. There's even a new William Boyd-penned novel - taking place in the late '60s - to be officially announced on Monday (April 15).

QuickClick: Peter Jackson Answers Fan Questions about The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

2 April 2013 7:03 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Sure, there are those that want to point out everything that they felt was wrong with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but that doesn't mean that fans aren't excited to see the next installment, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. While a trailer has yet to debut, there is a brief amount of footage revealed in a new video from director Peter Jackson, who decided to answer from fan questions about the second of his three-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel. Of course, it doesn't hurt that some of the fans asking questions are The Colbert Report host and Tolkien scholar Stephen Colbert and Lord of the Rings actor Billy Boyd, but fans will likely be more enthralled with the first footage of Evangeline Lilly as the elf Tauriel. In addition, the clip features footage of Orlando Bloom as Legolas, Lee Pace as the Elven King Thranduil and Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman. »

Those of you who bought “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” were treated to a special event, thanks to an access code in the packaging that allowed fans to watch Peter Jackson’s live Q and A event. During the event, Jackson previewed some of the upcoming sequel, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” and, of course, answered some of the fans’ burning questions. For those of us who weren’t able to see the live event, Jackson uploaded a cool snippet of the event which includes some sneak peeks and questions from Tolkien mega-fan Stephen Colbert and Pippin himself, Billy Boyd. Peter Jackson Releases Excerpt of Live Event for The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug

1 April 2013 2:00 PM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Hopefully all of you Hobbit fans out there were able to watch the special The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug “Fan Sneak” Q&A session with Peter Jackson on March 24. It was so great; an hour-long Q&A session that included bits of behind-the-scenes clips with green screen, and one long finished clip of Gandalf and Radagast doing some investigation. Unfortunately, that clip has not yet been released.

What has been posted by Peter Jackson today, however, are some excepts from the Q&A session, and within that are a couple of the green screen bits. You’ll get a very quick look at Evangeline Lilly and at Stephen Fry during filming, a map of middle earth, artwork for Mirkwood, a video fan question, a video question about the classes of elves by Stephen Colbert, and a video question from Billy Boyd, who played Pippin in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. »

'The Hobbit': Peter Jackson answers Stephen Colbert's fan question

1 April 2013 12:53 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

On March 24, director of the "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies Peter Jackson held a live Q&A online for fans who purchased "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" on DVD or Blu-ray. During the session he took fan questions, teased information about the remaining two movies, and even showed off some footage.

Now, Jackson has posted a portion of that session to YouTube, in which he answers a few questions from fans, including one you may recognize. Stephen Colbert, host of "The Colbert Report" and a huge fan of the series, asks a very detailed question about elves, complete with maps.

Once Colbert wraps up, Jackson gives him a simple one word answer, before firing back with a question of his own. He wants to know about about the gifts Colbert gives his guests when they visit his show. Specifically, Jackson asks why the coffee cup he was »

Peter Jackson Previews The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in Online Q&A—With a Little Help From Stephen Colbert

Peter Jackson is already getting to work hyping The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The famed director posted on his Facebook page a six-minute excerpt of a live event he held online last week giving fans an update on the second entry in his trilogy of films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, which he's now deep into editing. And the Q&A that followed featured a couple of surprise questioners—Comedy Central funnyman Stephen Colbert and Billy Boyd, the thesp who played Pippin Took in Jackson's The Lord of the Rings series. As a diehard Middle-earth devotee, Colbert of course couldn't resist asking the barefoot director about the Elves of Mirkwood (Jackson was a guest on The »

Does This 'Hobbit' First Look Offer Major Surprise?

1 April 2013 11:42 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Peter Jackson is gearing up for the release of the next "Hobbit" film.

The second film in the "Hobbit" series, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," is debuting later this year, and in preparation, "Hobbit" director Peter Jackson participated in a video Q&A for the film.

In the video (shown above) Jackson addresses plot points in the upcoming sequel, and the challenges of crafting a middle film in a series.

The video also features a cameo by self-proclaimed "Hobbit" junkie Stephen Colbert, who asked Jackson about the Elves of Mirkwood. Jackson addressed Colbert's question before discussing his own appearance on "The Colbert Report" and asking Colbert why he wasn't given a better souvenir mug to take home. Earlier this year, Colbert hinted that he might have a part in an upcoming "Hobbit" film.

Billy Boyd, who played Peregrin 'Pippin' Took in the "Lord of the Rings" films, also makes »

Peter Jackson Takes Us Behind The Scenes Of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

1 April 2013 11:20 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Though many complained about The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, I found it to be quite an enjoyable romp through Middle Earth. Though not on par with Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, it’s still a solid action/adventure flick and one that provided a lot of great moments and some truly memorable moments, for me at least. The next film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, is currently in production and today, we get a behind the scenes look at it.

With this newly release video, we get a couple shots of new members Evangeline Lilly and Luke Evans, a glance at Orlando Bloom and some quick looks at what’s going on behind the scenes. The point of the video though is to answer questions sent in by fans through YouTube, so that’s where most of the focus is. There’s also »

The Hobbit: Desolation Of Smaug Footage Reveals Tauriel, The Master of Laketown And More

1 April 2013 9:29 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

We were on hand last Sunday to bring you every minute of Peter Jackson's Desolation of Smaug lifestream event, in which the infinitely likable director unveiled the first behind-the-scenes footage and scene from the upcoming installment of the Hobbit trilogy. The full event remains limited to those who watched it live, but now you can see this six-minute tidbit, including much of the exciting behind-the-scenes footage he showed off. Happily this clip includes one of the live stream's best moments, when renowned Hobbit geek and famous person Stephen Colbert submitted a video with a ridiculously arcane question about elves. Unfortunately more than a full minute of these six minutes is taken up with Jackson's response about the free mugs given out to guests on The Colbert Report. But between Billy Boyd's quite-possibly-staged question about other lands of Middle Earth-- which allows Jackson to show off some concept art-- »

In case you hadn't heard, diehard fans of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" received a treat last week with a behind-the-scenes look at the sequel, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug." However, you could only participate in the Peter Jackson-led Q&A if you had purchased the 'Unexpected Journey' Blu-Ray and entered a code from the DVD package (nifty way to make you spend that extra dough for what will be a double dip release, no?). Well, some of that footage has made it's way online now and it shows a few small first-look reveals of the cast in action. In the Q&A, Jackson takes questions from fans, including Stephen Colbert and actor Billy Boyd (Pippin in "The Lord of The Rings" series) and showed off some behind-the-scenes footage. In it, we get to see Orlando Bloom reprising his role as the elf Legolas, Lee Pace as his father, »

Warner Bros. coerced a few additional people into purchasing the Blu-ray version of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey so they would watch a live event a few days back in which fans got a sneak peek at The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Well, as would be expected, that first look is now online for free or at least some of it. The video below runs about six minutes and along with some behind-the-scenes footage you also get a Q&A, but I'm sure most will be interested in seeing the footage including Orlando Bloom returning as Legolas, Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel and Lee Pace as Thranduil. There are appearances from Stephen Colbert and Billy Boyd and others so give it a look below. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters on December 13 and the first actual trailer is expected to arrive this summer. The second in a trilogy »

Peter Jackson has tackled a series of questions about his upcoming film The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

The Oscar-winning director held a Hobbit live event over the weekend and has since released a clip where he answered a number of queries directly from fans.

Discussing his decision to split The Hobbit into three films, Jackson explained: "It is complicated to do a middle film [like The Desolation of Smaug]. The advantage is that we have multiple storylines.

"The first of the Hobbit movies is a fairly linear film - Gandalf leads the dwarves across Middle-earth at the beginning of this adventure. The great thing about the second movie - as it was with The Two Towers, actually - is that the story starts spreading into multiple storylines."

He continued: "We can follow different characters as the story intensifies and the stakes go up."

Watch an Exclusive Clip From The Nerdist in Which It’s Clear Everyone Mixes Up Hobbits and The Hobbit

Chris Hardwick, podcaster and host of AMC's The Walking Dead aftershow Talking Dead, will explore even more facets of nerd-dom in his new talk show, The Nerdist, beginning Saturday at 10 p.m. on BBC America. In this exclusive clip from the show's premiere episode, it's confirmed that even Tolkienites can get mixed up when talking about hobbits. Guest Dominic Monaghan said crew members on Lord of the Rings were constantly mixing him up with Billy Boyd, who played Pippin to Monagan's Merry. "There were people who we'd been working with for, like, two years who didn't know which one was Dom or Billy, so they'd call me Billydom," he says. Even Hardwick gets confused when talking to the former hobbit about The Hobbit. Check it out in the clip below. »
