Julie Bowen found out her ancestors were abolitionists. John Stamos learned his grandfather had been murdered. Jessica Biel found out she has Jewish roots. That’s the irresistible hook of TLC’s “Who Do You Think You Are,” which just earned an Emmy nomination for structured reality program. The producers work with Ancestry.com to research celebrities’ roots, often finding surprises in even the most famous of family trees.
The research experts who coach the stars through their journey offered to do the same for me — albeit on a cursory level, since their research usually takes them a year. They just had about two weeks to do the digging for me.
First, a personal note: My father died suddenly about four years ago. He was, simply put, my rock, and I miss him desperately every day. So given the opportunity, I asked the team to explore his side of the family as a way of honoring his »

Since ABC has already renewed its Modern Family TV show for its ninth and tenth seasons, we don't have to worry about it being cancelled anytime too soon. That said, the end is more or less nigh for the top rated Alphabet Network sitcom. Ariel Winter is known for her body confidence, from publicly opening up about her breast reduction to wearing what she wants, when she wants. And her Modern Family costar Sarah Hyland takes some of the credit.

“The Mindy Project” is heading into its sixth-and-final season, which launches on Hulu this September, and to kick off the farewell tour, Mindy Kaling sat down with the press at the Television Critics Association press tour.
“I had a couple of weeks where it was kind of touch and go,” Barinholtz admitted about his health after he broke his neck. He said he called Kaling to tell her that he may not be able to perform to his full potential on “Mindy Project,” given the severity of his injury — and her response was to incorporate his injury into the show.
“She was instantly like, ‘We’re going to write it into the show, whatever »

Manny, Luke, Haley and Alex will all be back with the family.
The core “Modern Family” kids have closed their deals to sign onto two more seasons of the ABC sitcom, Variety has learned. Insiders say “significant” pay raises were given to each of the young adult actors — Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould, Sarah Hyland and Ariel Winter.
Kids actors Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who plays Lily, and Jeremy Maguire, who plays Joe, joined the series later on in its run and have more time left on their current deals, unlike the other four TV kids, who are now all adults and at least the age of 18 in real life.
ABC and 20th Century Fox Television declined to comment on the actor deals.
The close of the younger actors’ contracts marks the end of rather lengthy negotiations for the regular “Modern Family” cast, who are now all officially set for Seasons 9 and 10. In early May, ABC »

In the Oscar-themed episode of FX’s “Feud,” Bette Davis and Joan Crawford went head-to-head at the 1963 Academy Awards. At the 2017 Emmys, life will imitate art, as “Feud” stars Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange are both up for the same award in the same category.
But it’s not just “Feud” that earned multiple acting nominations in the same categories. Other A-list shows, like HBO’s “Big Little Lies” and NBC’s “This Is Us” and “Saturday Night Live” also have their stars nominated beside each other — an exemplary “first-class problem,” as they say.
Lange and Sarandon are up against one another in the limited series or movie lead actress race alongside co-stars of “Big Little Lies,” Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. Similarly, in the limited series or movie lead actor race, “The Night Of” stars John Turturro and Riz Ahmed are nominated against each other.

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have set aside the November 15, 2019 release date for their upcoming holiday comedy entitled Margie Claus, which has Melissa McCarthy set to star and produce, while co-writing the script. The actress' husband Ben Falcone will direct from a script he and Melissa McCarthy co-wrote with their Groundlings collaborator Damon Jones. Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone will both produce through their On the Day production company.
Deadline reports that the story is set on Christmas Eve, when Santa Claus goes mysteriously missing. Margie Claus (Melissa McCarthy) is then forced to go on a rescue mission to find him, leaving the North Pole for the first time in years. This report claims New Line is hoping this movie could have the same sort of success as their 2003 holiday classic Elf, which took in over $220 million at the global box office and also spawned a Broadway musical hit. »
George and Amal Clooney have officially joined the celebrities-with-twins club!
The adorable duo, who tied the knot in September 2014, welcomed their first children, a boy, Alexander, and a girl, Ella, on Tuesday. "I don't know how you fully digest [having two], but I'm excited," the first-time father told Et back in March. "It will be fun."
The next A-lister set to give birth to twins is Beyoncé. Her and husband Jay Z announced via Instagram in February that Blue Ivy would soon be a big sister to not one, but two bundles of joy. "We have been blessed two times over," the "Formation" singer said at the time.
In honor of these summer births, Et's looking back at other celebrities who've welcomed twins!
Kate McKinnon took the prize last year and could repeat her win, thanks to several memorable “SNL” episodes that saw her reprise Hillary Clinton in the heat of the election, not to mention her touching Leonard Cohen “Hallelujah” tribute. With the exception of Niecy Nash (“Getting On”), all of last year’s nominees are eligible this year: Mayim Bialik (“The Big Bang Theory”), Anna Chlumsky (“Veep”) and Gaby Hoffmann and Judith Light (“Transparent”). And while they missed out on a nod last year, never count out previous nominees Jane Krakowski (who married David Cross on this season of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) and Julie Bowen, who already has a pair of Emmys for her “Modern Family” role. There’s also Bowen’s co-star Sofia Vergara, who has four previous nominations for her role. Among the fresh possibilities are living legend Rita Moreno for her turn on the well-received “One Day at a Time” reboot and Molly Shannon for »

Ryan then went crazy when he found out he'd be playing the Plinko game, in which contestants drop a chip down a gigantic pinball board to land on a winning sum. "Oh my God!" he yelled when he dropped his first chip on the top amount, $10,000, before landing on $1,000, $10,000, $500, and another $10,000 on his last attempt -- which is when he really lost it.

ABC will be giving you more Family time for some time.
The network has renewed Modern Family for a ninth and tenth season, EW has learned. Similar to seasons 7 and 8, seasons 9 and 10 will each consist of 22 episodes. The renewal will hurtle the show past the 200-episode milestone midway into next season, as 188 episodes will have aired after the season 8 finale next Wednesday. It also wraps up a negotiating process that was lengthy but not nearly as contentious as the one in 2012, when adult cast members boycotted a table read and »
