Emmys the Perfect Time to Showcase Season’s Big Fashion Trends

15 September 2016 9:45 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Last year, fashionable lead-actress nominees Claire Danes and Taraji P. Henson picked looks flaunting chains, Kerry Washington dazzled in a metallic dress (hot off Marc Jacobs’ New York Fashion Week runway), and Tatiana Maslany nailed menswear in a Bouchra Jarrar couture cream tux. Here, top celebrity stylists weigh in on which trends will dominate the 2016 Emmy red carpet.

Prints

Micaela Erlanger, who’s previously styled fashion-forward Emmy contenders Tatiana Maslany and Michelle Dockery, predicts we’ll see plenty of prints. “Romantic florals and intarsia were all over the runways,” she says, also noting the trend’s migration onto the red carpet. “Take, for instance, Margot

Robbie’s Gucci gown from her ‘Suicide Squad’ tour.”

 Bold Hues

“The Emmys are always about color,” says Cristina Ehrlich, who has worked with Allison Williams, Anna Kendrick, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and expects this year’s nominees to take risks. Tara Swennen, who styled Julie Bowen in the lime-green Monique Lhuillier she »

Sofia Vergara Named World’s Highest-Paid TV Actress for Fifth Year in a Row

14 September 2016 10:39 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Sofia Vergara is the reigning queen of television.

The “Modern Family” star is the world’s highest-paid TV actress for the fifth year in a row, according to Forbes. With $43 million (before management fees and taxes), her salary is almost $20 million more than that of runner-up Kaley Cuoco, who earned $24.5 million. Unlike the list of film stars, she makes more than her male counterparts.

Aside from the hit ABC sitcom, Vergara can also thank a handful of lucrative product endorsements (from Head and Shoulders to Ninja Coffee Bar to Careisma Scrubs — a line of medical scrubs) for the 66% spike in earnings over the previous year.

Cuoco, who stars in “The Big Bang Theory,” tied with Vergara on last year’s Forbes list, when both actresses netted $28.5 million. Unlike the Colombian actress, Cuoco’s haul is based almost solely from her pay as Penny on the CBS comedy, for which she commands $1 million per episode. Like »

The Show | Mr. Robot

The Episode | “eps2.8_h1dden-pr0cess.axx” (Sept. 7, 2016)

The Performance | Darlene is a tough nut to crack. Sure, Mr. Robot‘s moody young hacker clearly cares for her brother Elliot, but mostly she buries any semblance of human emotion underneath a thick layer of cynicism and snark.

That’s why it was so moving when she opened up this week with a gut-punch of a monologue delivered by Chaikin. Sitting in a hospital waiting room with her sort-of boyfriend Cisco, Darlene recalled when she was on a family trip to Coney Island »

‘Better Things’: Pamela Adlon & Constance Zimmer Explain the Inside Joke Behind That Audition Scene

8 September 2016 7:30 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Among the many highlights in the premiere episode of “Better Things,” that audition scene stood out. While the cameos were great — Constance Zimmer! Julie Bowen! — and an inside look at the industry is always fun, there was an unspoken meta narrative at play that made the scene feel like an inside joke you’ve just got to hear.

Well, that’s because it was — and now you can.

To recap: Sam (Pamela Adlon) went to audition for a legal drama and sat down next to none other than everyone’s favorite “UnREAL” boss, Constance Zimmer. Waiting to read along with a slew of other dark-haired women in suit jackets, the two actors’ first words to each other were, “Of course you’re here.”

Turns out the acknowledgement was a shared wink to one another, right there, on national TV.

“Pam and I are constantly mistaken for each other,” Zimmer said during an interview with IndieWire. »
